Welcome to everyone who's new! My name is Pranav and I run a channel called 'Science is Dope' on youtube. I created this sub to create a community around the channel and ideas of science and rationality. Here are my channels in case anyone wants to check it out:

There will be a few who call this sub anti-hindu or anti-national or anti-bjp (like they do whenever they disagree with anything). This sub has nothing to do with politics, but whenever there are pseudoscientific ideas (religious or non-religious), we might make posts around those. And since this sub mostly talks about ideas popular in India, religion especially Hinduism shows up often.

But apart from that you're welcome to post any ideas or memes around science/rationality/pseudoscience. Try not to actively mock/harass/abuse an individual or a community and we're good! Any decisions/judgements will be made by the mods and I trust them to be reasonable.

Ask me any questions you may have, and have fun while you're here! Who knows... I might make a reddit reactions video soon on my second channel!

Hey sciencephiles, where are you from ? which country ? Do anyone watch from other countries as well ?

Two things happened in the last 2 days. Some background, I am from WB and I live in a flat on 2nd floor of an apartment with my mom and dad. Like others at night we put collapsible gates and lock the door and our windows have grills. We also usually lock the windows cause the temperature drops at midnight.

So yesterday we woke up to find the trashcan which is a big bucket, toppled over. There is no wind in the room and of course as I said everything is locked. Dad suspected a mouse but we looked for it in every corner (we usually find it cause our flat is small) but couldn't find any. Also a rat toppling an entire trashcan is unlikely.

Yesterday night, my dad cleaned the cistern of the toilet with some chemicals and told us not to flush anything. Nobody used the toilet again and before going to sleep I even checked the cistern, it was alright with the chemical water inside it. When we woke up today the toilet had been flushed. My mom didn't wake up at night, my dad doesn't wake up at night ever and I too didn't wake up in between.

So...how are these two events possible? I am freaking out. Even though I don't believe in ghosts and stuff, my mind is now saying there might be ghosts and demons and stuff who are trying to disturb me because I can't find a rational explanation for it. I posted on r indiasocial but didn't get any response. If you were me what would you do? How would you explain all these? I have experienced at least one such extremely weird thing before but I slowly removed it from my mind. But now with these two incidents I am freaking out. Help.

What is true, what is propaganda?

Have you guys heard about the Praveen Mohan, he blatantly lies in his video and bringing the IQ of this nation down. He has amassed over 2M subscribers. Something needs to be done to take him down.

Right now the rationality of the majority of the Indians is being challenged through politically motivated and religious indoctrination in all the fields.

Even though we know Urban Indians more likely to lean towards scientific approach. But I still don't see them rationally approach anything, which is why they're being suceptible to the religious indoctrination.

If this goes on like this, how do you guys predict the future of Rational India ? What changes can it bring into our society in terms of education, awareness and psychological well being ?

Whenever I say that religion must be stopped people claim that religion is what brings morality and without religion you can't have morality. How do I convince them out of this flawed logic?

According to Christianity, humans are created in the image of God. This implies that humans have the same organs (limbs, head, hair etc) as God. If God is all-powerful and capable of anything, He wouldn't need oxygen to breathe in space, so why would He have a nose? Similarly, if He doesn't need to eat, why would He have a stomach, intestine, liver etc? Similarly, reproductive organs etc etc.

I am tired of convincing people around me that, it is okay to drink water while standing and the only care to take is to not gulp or gasp while drinking, also give extra information about it if you find while researching about this topic

Some of the myths I have heard are
1. knee will start to pain if not now but in future

1. Kidney will damage or will not absorb nutrients well

2. Water will directly hit the stomach due to gravity and will damage it

3. There is a muscle / membrane like structure which opens and closes near stomach and it will be damaged,
   Etc.

Edit :- One of my friend is persuing final year BAMS but He practices/studies MBBS ( I don't know how but he said it is allowed) So when I asked him he said he don't know about the claims mentioned above but it is scientifically researched that when you drink while standing, the tongue may fall behind leading to gasping so better drink by sitting down.

I could only find the video on channel 'We r stupid' debunking these myths. Every other video states you should drink water only by sitting. We need more scientifically evident videos to debunk it
