Does anyone know why Cheryl Hole appears to be going by simply “Cheryl”?
I have searched all the RPDR-related subreddits and can’t seem to find anything. If I remember correctly her handle on Instagram used to be @cherylholequeen, but now it’s @cheryldragqueen. All the promos that I’ve seen just say Cheryl.
I guess I am surprised by the change given her admiration of Cheryl Cole, which I think was even discussed when Cheryl Cole guest judged on UK.

This is kinda why there is a huge debate between political parties in the US about how appropriate drag is in general.
I was personally introduced to it years before RPDR at a nightclub where IDs were checked, surrounded by adults and nothing but them. Since then Ive seen hundreds of shows and they have ALWAYS been raunchy , provocative, sexually oriented and the humor was for LGBT oriented adults etc.
It is 100% clear to this day in RPDR that Ru continues these traditions on their show. As she herself says, drag is a punk art form. Drag shows were underground for decades and she brought it to the main screen. It then grew to epic proportions with people who have no idea what its about seeing all these extreme/provocative references.
This recent implementation for reading childrens books or as entertainment catering to them is new to me tbh.
I am well into my years and I think sometimes those bodily references are too much if not overdone. It's no wonder eyebrows are being raised.
Not saying there cannot be room change but the truth is that historically it was never meant to be as mainstream as it suddenly became and thus why we're caught in the waves of the culture clashes.
Drag has always been diverse, honestly. Raunchy bar shows are going to want different behavior from a pageant, etc etc. And as queer culture has become more mainstream, there was always going to be a growing branch of family friendly drag. It shouldn’t be at the expense of what was already there, but there’s no reason it needs to be a monolith. Mr. Rogers had kids, so even he had to have creampied Mrs. Rogers at one point or another. An adult audience in one setting doesn’t mean you can’t have a young audience in another.

There are plenty of examples of drag in kids’ or kids’ appropriate shows though. Are there Millennials who didn’t see Mrs. Doubtfire? And if someone called to cancel Bugs Bunny, there would be fits. Just like any other media, there are different levels. (I also don’t see anyone call to ban kids from witnessing straight people hugging, kissing, getting married, or being shown having families because kids “are too young to understand sexuality”. It’s also not inappropriate to tell kids that they can only wear clothes and like things because they have certain genitalia, but they can’t possibly understand the concept of gender roles when it comes to expressing their individuality. I know what youre getting at and I agree that there is a lot of hypocrisy with people not realizing tons of comedic relief characters are technically doing drag...but in terms of RPDR Ru continues to create adult oriented content which is now consumed by a very young audience.

Thinking back to my own life, many kids watched South Park when I wasnt allowed to by my parents. It was very easy to be confused by its cutesey construction paper cut-outs but my parents knew better. So in that same vein, no its not on the kids to want to watch or the producers of the show to not do their thing, its on the parents which tbh is actually why so many have a fuss.
Also the thing with movies like Mrs. Doubtfire is that these characters were invented for the sole purpose of being in a family friendly movie and their very existence and every word said was pre-written and pre-approved.
Let's look at the Madea empire. Madea isnt a real life drag queen. Madea also doesnt interact with people on social media in real time or perform burlesque numbers like countless queens have done.
Add the fact that so much is being copied by the fandom including all this moaning that all these queens do for some reason... it actually trickled down to the schoolhouses and teachers are fed up with students making all these super cringe references and dont know how to handle it.

It might not be why but last year Cheryl went on Celebrity Masterchef in the UK and there was an uproar among the UK twitter terfs about how her name was degrading to women and openly misogynistic, they all though the Hole was a reference to vaginas, which led to days of backlash against the BBC for promoting drag queens and Cheryl herself.
