Anyone use Rome as a base to see other parts of the countryTourism

Is it possible to stay 6-7 days in Rome and dedicate a full day trip to Florence/Pisa and also a full day trip to see Pompei or is that to much and to far?

Where to buy pyjamas in central Rome?

Like the post says. I’m an idiot and left my pyjamas at home. I’m blasting through my husbands’s t shirts and he doesn’t appreciate it!

I’ve already visited a couple of spots that sometimes sell pjs in my own country (Zara, Uniqlo) but there are none.

Please can you suggest places where you KNOW there will be pyjamas for sale? Thank you!

Borghese Gallery Museum - early July tickets

Looking to book x2 tickets to Borghese Gallery Museum for either Jun 30th or Jul 1st/2nd ( very limited days in Rome given existing bookings elsewhere). I'm noticing that the offical website [https://www.tosc.it/en/artist/galleria-borghese/galleria-borghese-2253937/\] doesn't have the option to view anything in July - at time of posting, only options are up-to June 19th? Wondering if anyone is aware of the release schedule of tickets online? Thanks!!

Where to buy art in Rome similar to the street art stencil vendors (or any cool unique souvenirs you recommend)

I like the styles they have on display and got fooled into thinking the guy actually painted it (first trip and he had that fake paint kit set up)

Would rather buy from some who actually created something with their own talent at a reasonable price

What is reliable taxi or transport to airport at 4:00 am?Transport

Hello, we are traveling to Rome with my family and unfortunately our departure is set late in night. We will also stay little bit outside of central area so traveling with public transport is confusing. Do you have a recommendation for a reliable transport to airport?

What activities Italians do in Rome in Summer?Culture

Hello everyone. So basically I have visited Rome many times before and have been to pretty much every tourist attraction. This summer, in July, I will be in Rome again for 3 days. So this time I want to spend my time doing less touristy things, more local stuff. Any recommendations for how can I spend my 3 days in Rome? What is popular to do in Rome among locals lately?

Help - seven hour wait at FCO, not layover Tourism

Family of three arriving FCO June 14 at 07:55. We are meeting a group tour there to head straight to Assisi by tour bus(we did land-only tickets with the tour company and booked our own flights since we're staying an extra five days at the end). They were originally supposed to arrive an hour after us, but their flights have now been changed and they aren't getting in until 15:15. This leaves 7.5 hours and we don't want to spend it in the arrivals hall. Below are what I think are our best options, advice would be appreciated.

  1. Store luggage at T3 arrivals and get taxi to Ostia Antica for a few hours. Come back to airport and grab quick snack, get luggage and meet the bus and group outside. This is our first choice as we've never been here and always wanted to see it. Questions for this option: will getting a taxi back to the airport from this site be difficult? How best to do that, FreeNow? Uber app for taxi? Get the card of the taxi driver who drops us off and call him for return?

  2. Store luggage and take train or taxi into Rome for lunch, walk around a bit, back to airport.

  3. Take train straight to Assisi and meet them there. However this option leaves us not being able to check in to hotel until they arrive around 18:00. We are staying in Santa Maria degli Angela at the base of Assisi, so could possibly store luggage at the hotel and take the bus up into Assisi for the afternoon while we wait.

Question about storing luggage in T3: we will have three carry-on suitcases that have locks and three packed full backpack/shoulder bags that do not lock. Are those safe to leave in storage? Obviously would take passports/credit cards/money with us.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Help finding contactless ATMs that accept the N26 digital card to withdraw money?

As the title says, I’m going to Italy in a few days and I need to know if there’s any contactless ATMs in the FCO airport or in Rome that would accept the N26 digital card, as I need to withdraw money.

I tried contacting their customer service but they couldn’t tell me about contactless ATMs, so I’m hoping to find someone here that knows of one.

Thank you!

What website has reliable skip the line tickets? (NOT tours)Tourism

I'm looking to get simple skip the line tickets without any kind of guided tours and whatnot. I found one on getyourguide .com but the reviews mostly imply that its the same as the standard ticket, just 3x more expensive... Do these even exist or am I stuck between a tour and a long wait? Mostly looking for the Colosseum and the Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel

Question about Vatican museum ticketsVatican

I bought tickets on the official Vatican website for “Guided Tours for Individuals - Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel”. My tour is at 3:30pm. Will this tour dump us out to St Peters Basilica via the “secret entrance” ? I want to see the Basilica but I don’t know if I should do it after the tour (if they let us use the secret way to get in? Or is there even enough time to see St Peters if my tour starts at 3:30), or if I should plan on arriving early to see St Peters Basilica before the tour. Help!

English Bookclub in RomeCulture

Hello, I am an international student living in Rome and I have been feeling very lost lately. That's why I want to join a book club, so I can talk about the books I love and life will have a little more meaning. If you know of an English book club and share it with me, I would be very happy 🍀

Gardens at Quirinale tonight?Tourism

In town as a tourist and I see one of things to do for Republic Day is the gardens at Palazzo del Quirinale are open. Has anyone been before and know what to expect today? Long lines? Worth it? I have three primary school kids so they have limited patience.

Would there be any considerable waiting time for these places? Tourism

I read somewhere that there are a lot of travelers at Rome these days. Would there be any considerable waiting time for these places?

Almost got pickpocketed on the metro today....Health and safety

10-13 year old looking kid was standing next to me on the Metro, he was with a group of other younger looking people. He distracted me by commenting on my hair...and few seconds later I look down and my purse was open. I immediately panicked in front of every one saying I was pickpocketed. The kid pretended to pick up the wallet from the floor as if I had dropped it. I just said thank you and let it go. Be careful out there....

Surviving intense heat - How doable is it?Nature

I really really want to go this summer, extended daylight and everything makes it better.

I’m not greatly accustomed to heat unfortunately. Is there anywhere to hide from the heat in the peak of the afternoon or any other advice as to how to tolerate the heat a bit better would be greatly appreciated.
