Personally it’s Dance With The Devil by Immortal Technique. I can’t see anything being worse than that.
A lot of Songs from Swimming are really sad given the context he died a month after its release. “Ima be here for a while longer than I did expect to”, is part of the chorus from Jet Fuel.
There’s also a part in Self Care where he says “I got all the time in the world, so for now I'm just chillin'” and in fact he did not have the much time left. Just shows how fickle life is
not sure how, but just recently found out jet fuel’s outro. always listened to the album and circles but idk how I never heard that outro, guess I just skipped that song/wasnt paying attention? But damn since then been on repeat for weeks
So it Goes’s outro transcends me
Had this on repeat when I was having a bad time.
I'm not even a big Mac fan, but that song makes me bawl like a giant baby everytime. Both beautiful and tragic.
Remember is his saddest I think, that or god speed/perfect circle. He raps about how he doesn't want his friends to have to tell his mother he od'd and her wishing she could do more to stop it.
Yup I just listened to speed/perfect circle last night and had chills the whole time
RIP Mac
Good AM is my favorite Mac Miller album
Same no skips and it’s like a 20 song album with a lot of his elite songs
I watched the music video the day it dropped, and my first thought was “fuck this is so beautiful and real, and depressing. His family probably can’t watch this one.”
2009 folds my crybaby ass everytime
I must have listened to that thousands of times during Covid’s 1st lockdown.
For me it's Ab-Soul's 'The Book of Soul', maybe not super sad sonically but the lyrics just show so much pain this man has been through. It's all a true story too
I love Drugs by Soulo is my joint. It gets sad when you realize Mac Miller is doing the adlibs in the background crying for help.
I have no idea how this isn’t the top comment. When his voice breaks on “fall off a fuckin’ tower tryna find you” it’s genuinely heartbreaking to listen to, every single time.
Why lord? Why Laurie ? Why you have to take her from me?
This was the one I came to say lol. Control System is an awesome project but that's one song I don't revisit often because of how heavy it is
Immortal technique--- you never know
Bawled my eyes out first time I heard this. Absolutely heartbreaking
It pains me when immortal technique comes up in a conversation and the only song the person knows is dance with the devil. It sucks they’re unaware of works like that.
I always jump to Peruvian cocaine
That’s songs fucking good
Point of No Return is my favorite tech banger. That violin hits so hard.
Land of the gun was my into to him
I know this is the one song - but I saw it 20 years ago, accapella, at a mumia rally with all the lights turned off so it’s burned into my brain
Yeah dance with the devil is just kind of okay when the shock value wears off. One of those songs that seems really shocking when you're 14 but once you've gone through that it's clearly not even close to his best. Still a good listen every once in a while though just sad people can't look past it to his other stuff
This is the one right here. No other Rap song made me cry just from the lyrics of the song. I’d also add 2Pac how long will they mourn me. Hits hard after losing someone.
Your comment sir, just introduced me to Immortal’s music. Just listened to You Never Know and Dance With The Devil for the first time. Both songs left me in a state of shock.
🫡
Check out The 4th Branch, The 3rd World, Rich Mans World, Point of no Return, Creation & Destruction (this song has some of the hardest bars I’ve ever heard ie. “immortal technique, the wrong motherfucker to diss, cause I allowed god to let you morherfuckers exist”)
Underrated. You a real one.
just listened. god damn
I dare anyone who grew up in the 80s/90s to listen to this and not tear up at the end.
Based ass reply. Leaving the past is one of my favorites from immortal
Caught in a Hustle- Immortal Technique
You never know hits hard but I can't listen to it multiple times, but immortals "Mistakes" in the 3rd world album is one of those songs that can run on repeat but will make you feel like shit every single time you play it.
It just sums up life and how we're supposed to suffer, how people don't like suffering but don't appreciate suffering enough to fix the suffering or even learn from it.
Goddamn, I actually find a person who knows about it. This is cool.
Suicidal thoughts by Biggie comes to mind
There are some others that have actually made me cry but this one just makes me sad lol
Thats a good answer ngl. It’s so weird to think the producer who listened to that song probably just sat there and didn’t even ask if big was ok
awkward silence "alright good shit, let's run it back"
it was diddy lol he don’t care
Exactly such ahead of its time man
The (unofficial, you can find it on YT) version without Puff's ad libs is even better (and sounds sadder), his yapping just takes away from the seriousness of the song
We need a Ready to Die remaster deleting Puff
There are some remixes on YT, though be warned that once you listen to the versions without Puffy, he gets much more noticeable and annoying on the normal ones
The regae verizon with ziggy? Marley is also really good, not sure if it has a YouTube video tho
Dear Mama
But it's a good sad
Every time I listen to it. I feel bad when I avoid my moms calls or get into an argument with her ☹️
Damn homie. You good?
Yeah I’m good thanks for asking. I’m cool with my mom and love her a lot. But you know how shit gets when you’re older and disagree with each other.
Wild he was only 22 when he wrote that too. Maturity.
Also "All That I Got Is You" by Ghostface Killah
Came here to say this. Makes me feel like I’m going to cry every time I hear it.
For your eyes only not because it’s darker than the one you mentioned just because it’s so personal and feels so authentic and it’s like visceral
Love Yourz has made me cry before.
Exactly the song I came here to say. That song and album as a whole Is amazing.
DMX - Slippin’
Such a classic and one that moves me every time I hear it. You can feel the pain in that song.
REMember by Mac Miller
“You had a girl I kinda wish you knocked her up so I can meet your son and talk you up”
Ooof
I need to listen to that song
Yesterday - Atmosphere
Flicker - Atmosphere
They released flicker a week after a good friend passed away and it makes me tear up every time I hear it. Fuck
I came here to find something related to Eyedea. Luckily I got to see him live with Kristoff Krane shortly before he passed. Blueprint, MURS, and Sadistik have some great tribute songs as well.
My honorable mention: Smile - Eyedea & Abilities
R.EYE.P
I’m a fan of Atmosphere, one of those incredibly respected artists in your life, where you don’t dig deep into them, but when they hit, they hit.
I don’t know how I never heard Flicker before, but your comment brought me to it
I lost my brother in 2017, and I’ve been going through another level of grief I unknowingly avoided for a long time. Atmosphere is actually one of the artists who brings me some solace - hearing this for the first time floored me man, thanks for commenting that
Difficult Eminem, it wasn’t even supposed to release and he’s clearly at his lowest point
came here to say the same.
Heart Part 6. Just piss poor rap skills and pure sadness.
I actually lol at this
Samidot and u by kendrick
I and u are made in such a way to contrast while making each other better. Tpab is honestly a masterpiece
Sing about me is another Kendrick one that really gets me.
That’s what SAMIDOT stands for
Keisha's Song (Her Pain) by Kendrick comes to mind as well.
I woke up this morning and figured I’d call you in case I’m not here tomorrow
Last Dance by Nas
The shit he’s rapping on that track made me call up my mom so quick to tell her I love her.
Dance*
Kid Cudi has quite a few. These Worries, Lord of the Sad and Lonely, Don’t Play This Song.
The substance itself might not be as sad of a story as something like Dance With The Devil, but you can tell it’s coming from a very depressed person.
Don’t forget GHOST! Shit is really depressed
I never really took ghost to be that sad as some of the others bc he’s still talking abt the stuff with like the ppl I’ve met n places I’ve been all made me the man I so proudly am
trapped in my mind is sad too, rarely see people talking about that one
Soundtrack to my life is pretty sad “The moon will illuminate my room and soon I’m consumed by my doom”
Mother i sober
Honestly can't even think about that song without tearing up a little
The “I wish I could be somebody, anybody but myself” in the chorus hits hard
On GP by Death Grips
Once a day by Mac Miller is the saddest song ever made
I love the intentional dissonant ending though, as the resolving chord is E major, which is the first thing heard on Circles. The whole album is a circle
That mf was an ARTIST
2009 Mac miller
Book of soul
Dance With The Devil shocked me the first time I heard it. Happy Birthday by Flipsyde is a strong contender too, it's a very poetic song talking about regretting an abortion. I'd also throw Beautiful by Eminem up there too.
A good honorable mention is Silence by Jarren Benton, about his homie that passed away.
Lot of contenders, there are just different types of sadness for me:
Pure darkness - dance with the devil by immortal technique
Brutal heartbreak and pain - Book of soul by ab soul
Not supposed to be sad but is sad because of cirucumstances - good news by mac miller
A sorta longing grieving sadness - top picks for you by injury reserve
Relatable although you may not have it sadness - fetus by amine (thats what I could think of at the moment)
Sad…. Song - heart pt 6 by drake and honorable mention to any tom macdonald song
Book of soul is amazing.
It was like his version of the life of Benjamin Andre. Wish more rappers would do songs like that
Antarctica - $UICIDEBOY$
2 Pac - Life Goes On
Dance by nas
What got me the most was when I heard his dad played the trumpet at the end. Sounded like a heartfelt ode to his wife that passed on.
Stan- Eminem
Jedi Mind Tricks - Razorblade Salvation
the last verse of that song is hopeful and he seems like he wants to "Grow"
Injury Reserve - Knees
Dance with the devil made me genuinely confused and concerned after I heard the part about his mom…
Ab-soul - "The Book of Soul"
Hearing him break down talking about Alori Jo is devastating. And that beat is haunting.
Stan mockingbird or when I'm gone
Jocelyn flores because of the backstory
I was looking for this, kinda sad I had to scroll down this far to see it
What’s the backstory?
A girl X knew, Jocelyn Flores, committed suicide.
lol, so deep
Basically x flew out two girls to model In a clothing brand, one of them was Jocelyn Flores. One night when x was at his cousins prom thousands of dollars went missing. Both of the girls blamed eachother for the missing money, so x made them spend the night at a hotel. One of x’s friends was watching Flores, but left to get something to eat. When he came back the bathroom door was locked, so the friend didn’t think much of it and went to bed. When the door was still locked in the morning, he called the hotel to unlock the door. Inside they found that Flores committed suicide.

Just cause I haven’t seen it on anyone’s list:
Toilet Tisha - OutKast
I didn’t say it cause I saw you dropped it
This just reminded me how hard I skip spottieottiedopalicious every time it comes up because me and a girl I dated always listened to it. It’s been 10 years and I’m married lmao, it was just such an easier simpler time it’s like my fuckin mourning song for innocence I didn’t realize I still had.
Solace - earl sweatshirt
