Why the fuck do you have to pay to park at a hospital
when my mom worked for a doctors office/urgent care this is what they did too so she stopped driving to work luckily she was able to do that and either walk or have my dad drive her, most of her coworkers however couldn’t but it’s absolutely ridiculous to charge your own employees to work for you and honestly it should be illegal.
Whack
Considering how bad they need to retain medical staff that’s a terrible move on their part. Dumb asses.
US hospitals would charge you for breathing the air inside if they could.
US hospitals would also charge you for breathing the air outside if they could.
They would also charge you for not breathing outside if they could.
Don’t give them ideas
Um, my mom was on oxygen it was quite expensive 🙃
They are already charging you for holding your own goddamn child. Like how is this even legal?
I'm not saying I necessarily agree with this either, but i't's not the "holding" they charge for. It's not like the kid is locked away if parents don't prepay. The charge is for the fact that post C-section there's one nurse tasked with keeping post-op mom from dropping the baby.
Mine charges $8 /day for employee parking. Almost 1200 a year to park at work.
Do you have a union?
Obviously this is a local thing, never have seen a hospital charge for parking. Is it in a large city where parking is scarce? I could see Chicago or New York charging, but they certainly don’t in my backwater country hospital.
They don’t in my small ass town, but when I have to go see someone besides my PCP, which means driving two hours to a city of 70,000, I have to pay for parking. So yeah it happens in places where parking is limited
Maybe you can get your insurance company to pay for rideshare? It’s quite common in my area and might be worth looking into it.
You are correct as it definitely depends on the location. I live in NorCal and do not have to pay to park at my small town hospital. Completely different story when it comes to Sacramento hospitals…
That sucks, I'm sorry :(
I didn't even know this was a thing, all of the hospitals I've gone to have only charged if you used valet parking
Take a look at the Texas medical center. Every freaking one charges. I just paid $9 to park for 2 hours I believe when I went to see my PCP
It's free where I am if you're a patient or visitor. I think it's done because of the people who park there and don't actually go to the hospital.
I receive a ticket, get it validated when I go in and I'm good to go afterwards.
I have read it's to ensure visitors/employees/patrons of hospitals actually have a space to park. With said, if parking validation is not offered, I don't understand the why
I had to pay $20 for the 2 hours I spent at my local (urban) hospital in the middle of the night when one of my parents was brought to the ER (had passed at home before leaving, but EMS still insisted to go for some reason) and I had to come to support my other parent in the aftermath and have a private farewell moment with my loved one's body. There were 2 other cars parked in the huge lot surrounding the whole hospital, the ER was empty, and quiet AF. No reason whatsoever to have to pay if they want to use the availability excuse. No validation available at any time of day either.
yes, that stinks.
Because hospitals are usually close to public transport systems so if the parking spaces were free people would park and go off for the day taking up spaces needed by patients, staff and visitors.
Would make sense if they validated for patients and visitors.
Most of the places I've gone to do validate parking. The rest just had open parking lots
What do you mean "not in Los Angeles"?
What part of my comment do you disagree with?
Where did I say they're not near public transport?
I said they usually are!
Ah right! 😆 Gotcha.
Apologies for any confusion!
Our closest hospital still has an "ambulance only" road. (A lot of deleted rants.) Suddenly I love living in an area with more space than sense.
Boohoo our taxes already paid to build the place
😆
So you'd be happy to have people block up the spaces when you're trying to park and visit a sick relative?
But if you have to get validation from the actual hospital in order for it to be free then wouldn't it not be a problem?
That's how it worked when my husband was in the hospital. It's catty corner to a major subway stop. I found parking right away and didn't have to pay. I think it was free for the first two hours with validation.
Yes, with validation, however, op never mentioned anything about validation.
They were asking why weren't they just free regardless...
It's not free with validation, for example last time I went it was ONLY $10 for the hour, with validation.
Realistically I don’t believe it’d be a problem but you’re entitled to your own opinion
It's not an opinion, it's a fact.
Look, I can see that you're a real genius and I'm sure you'll come up with a better system than all the hospital planners, administrators, architects, carpark engineers, etc combined so I'll leave you to it!
You seem like a miserable person lmao go argue with someone else your not gonna get whatever your looking for here. It’s not a fact it’s something that could or could not happen and realistically wouldn’t be a major problem compared to the greed that surrounds the American healthcare system and the people they take advantage of 🤷♂️ I hope whatever’s bothering you gets better buddy
"You seem miserable. Go argue with someone else. You're not gonna get whatever you're looking for here"
proceeds to argue, and call the other guy bothered
😆
Because hospitals are an organisation, show a receipt that you were there for some treatment and you'll get a stamp that will make your parking free.
Because hospitals are still a business and need to make money in various ways, including pay to park systems.
Why does a dog lick his balls?
Because he can. & it feels good
Apt comparison. Those downvoting you probably don’t know the answer to your question.
What are you even talking about lol they're at 1 karma
2 now, but controversial, which means people are downvoting.
Probably because they itch, I’m not sure of the correlation
/s
Because he can. Why does the hospital charge for parking. Because they can
/s means it was a joke.
If it was free. I can guarantee you would never be able to find a spot there. It’s kinda like a catch 22.
Hospital car parks in Scotland at least are owned by a private company and not the NHS as far as I’m aware of
This is fkn great ?
Because capitalism
The land that my town’s hospital is built on was given to the town by a rich family for the purpose of the hospital, so if the town owns the land and as far as I’m aware still does, why do the residents get charged to park there by an external company who’s headquarters are in London? It is a riddle.
They do the same for the staff at my university. The professors have to buy a yearly parking pass to commute to work.
What hospital charges you for parking? I work at one and my hospital don’t charge for parking
Where? You don't have to post to park at the hospital where I live.
Winston north carolina
Because capitalism
When my dad was at the hospital last year, we knew someone on staff who told us that if you drive up to the exit and press the intercom button, the gate will open and let you out for free.
I doubt that works at every hospital, but at one very reputable, high quality hospital in Philadelphia, it does.
I was charged money for crying too loudly when I had a kidney infection. They'll charge you $30 for a band aid too. It's just money grubbing and greed because the majority of those overcharges don't go to improving facilities or paying staff. It's just profit for whatever corporation owns that facility.
My mom used to park in a mall parking lot, then her and I would walk over to the hospital. Tons of other people were doing it too. CBC News made a video on it (Marketplace). It’s ridiculous how expensive hospital parking is. They’re already getting paid because of patient bills, why make them pay for parking?
THE US IS IN DEPT AND ARE GETTING EVERY PENY THEY CAN TO PAY IT OFF
yeah fuck city hospitals... in the suburbs, most parking at the hospital is free...
i work at a hospital and they automatically deduct $60/month for parking privileges. i actually pay to goto work. wtf
