The last 50 seconds of Reckoner. It's like the beginning of another epic song. Especially when the strings start to harmonise more as it fades out and it's like "nooo stay with meeeee"
There are some hidden screams at the end of Just and Paranoid Android and a little bit on the 2 Meter Session version of My Iron Lung on spotify when he goes “my UN cle bill” at the end
weird fishes ofc deserves a mention, but i love lucky's outro. the sheer emotional build up in that song followed by the eerie trailing off of the last lyric is beautiful
Nah that song is a perfect Radiohead song the way it drags you through misery for the first 2/3 of the track then the chord progression changes out of nowhere and suddenly gets super optimistic it’s beautiful. Genuinely the reason why I listen to Radiohead summed up in that song
I agree with there there, if I had to go for a different song I would have to go with the “if you are on the top then it is a long drop” part of bangers and mash
So many good options, all I need, videotape, let down, jigsaw, how to dissappear completely
But for me I have 2 sleeper picks. MPS is underrated as the choir at the end makes me sob all the time. And I feel pyramid song isn't appreciated enough.
Lol "no exit music" that's fantastic. Ok, ok, outside of exit, I'll offer up the audicious outro bridge and solo to electioneering. I love that tremelo picking buildup that just explodes into that pitch shifted carcophony of descending rundowns and double stop bends... I played that so much my roommates would be watching TV and slam the door to the room I was in, and I'd be all, shrugs shoulders 'it's just business...'
My shortlist (which, ask me tomorrow, and I’d say any one if these could be the best):
Daydreaming
Pulk/Pull Revolving Door
Planet Telex
Burn the Witch
I Am A Wicked Child
You And Whose Army?
Backdrifts (Honeymoon Is Over)
Bodysnatchers
Faust Arp
Bangers + Mash
Everything In Its Right Place
Bloom
Little By Little
Separator
Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief (more or less the final 2 minutes are resplendent)
Polyethylene
Supercollider
These Are My Twisted Words
Taking the question to a bit of an extreme, the triangle ping at the end of The Tourist. No big bang, no fade out, no meandering “we didn’t know how to close the album”. Just a beautiful single ping to say “finished”, leaving you in a calm, contemplative state.
I was going to say the tourist but the thing is I love that WHOLE song so much singling out any one detail just seemed pointless. Like it's a a masterpiece prob my fav closer by them.
Honorable mentions:
Let Down, Bodysnatchers, Paranoid Android, Weird Fishes, Wolf at the Door, Fake Plastic Trees, All I Need, Jigsaw Falling into Place, Glass Eyes, Daydreaming (the weird noises at the end get me everytime), Motion Picture Soundtrack, like all of them honestly Radiohead is gots some good songs 🤷♂️
why is no one saying motion picture soundtrack?!?! imo the part where it switches and thom starts "i will see you in the next life" that whole sequence is just beautiful, and you can tell that its a "final part" because of the sort of abrupt change in mood
Karma Police
All I Need
Let Down
