All I Need music video they did for human trafficking/slavery hits hard.
We take a life we were born into for granted. Others that were not so lucky, being born by chance in another country, having no choice to be children and having fun. Only working, sleeping, and maybe eating, in the name of western consumerism. Worst part is that we all know this is happening, but choose to ignore it because we want that shiny new iPhone, or Air Jordans.
I watched the all I need mv and the first thing I heard was "ayo, ayo bangun" and that fr jumpscared me cuz I'm Indonesian (that's Indonesian for wake up)
If I recall correctly, that video was made by a nonprofit or activist group that wanted to use the music to tell their story and the band agreed to just let that be the official music video.
Agreed! And I like to think of Separator off KOL as the next part of the Videotape story. Purgatory or afterlife or whatever; “finally I’m free of all the weight I’ve been carrying…”
Reckoner for me is about how we never have control over our lives or our fate and even with your efforts, sometimes you just don't get what you want (You're not to blame for bittersweet distractors).
With the realization that the human condition is to be dependent by design, the protagonist attempts to end himself with the justification that death is yet another fact that he would have no control over anyways.
He fails though, and when he does he implored god to please take him with him because he feels to powerless to even bring himself out of a life that has extinguished any hope at happiness in their life.
"Dedicated to all human beings" for me is him sending the message that because we have no control over our destiny, maybe in refusing to endure that powerlessness by taking himself away, the protaginst can finally breathe knowing that he could control at least one aspect of its existence: its death.
Reckoner hits me very deep because of my experience dealing with OCD and how it feels you are losing control over your mind and how you're being conditioned by factors that you can hardly change; it is my favourite Radiohead song and It may just be a perfect one.
I’ve always loved Reckoner but I never dissected it so deeply the way you did, it’s like the song has a new meaning now, this is a perfect interpretation of the song.
For me the song is about a one night stand. Meeting somebody in a club, the excitement of it, the ability to be drunk and not think and just enjoy yourself. And then the feeling of emptiness when you realize you are never going to see this person again. There’s a bit of trepidation to the departure but you both know there’s no future here. Very bittersweet song.
I think House of Cards is about an affair, but I don’t even know why I think that. Just vibes I guess.
Absolutely this one for me. First time I ever listened to it I was watching the sunrise over Lake Superior after a breakup. Every time I hear it I'm taken right back there, the song is quite a vibe
I always interpreted Videotape being a fairly hopeful song about someone passing away peacefully, surprised to see everyone thinks it's so sad, personally Weird Fishes seems sadder
I would say nude based off of the sound of the song but Reckoner always hit the hardest for me. It always reminded me of my family my parents used to play it. Not to mention the outro, it always hits so hard when it fades away
Videotape no question
Nude, All I Need sad too
