Hi everyone! I’m a beginner, I haven’t even really made anything yet, just been voraciously watching quilting videos and how-to’s and even reading quilting books from the library. I’m familiar with a sewing machine and have sewed mostly garments in the past but I’ve never done quilting. I wanted to start with something small and simple so I decided to make a quilted wall banner for my friend for her birthday. My plan is to make it out of squares of fabric to keep it easy and then bind the edges and give it loops to hang. I don’t intend on putting batting inside (or should I?) but I do plan on giving it a quilted appearance with simple criss crossed lines - do I need a walking foot to do this?
I can give more details on my design if needed. Thanks so much 🤗
I've always quilted my wall hangings. I didn't always use a walking foot though.
I think the batting gives them body so they look more quilt-like. But I've seen many wall hang ngs that haven't had batting. I think it's your preference.
