Hugh Jackman shares skin care routine: “This is 55.”
Celebrity Fluff 🤩Serious, super important question. Do those eye masks do anything or are they a complete waste of money? Celebs love to post wearing them, I'm always thinking it's a spon con thing.
Keep them in the fridge.
They absolutely do good to depuff and de-emphasize [eta: the appearance of] fine lines.
Do they erase the underlying fine lines? No, obviously not. So to your question: it depends what you mean by “do anything” — it doesn’t reverse the passage of time, just improves the appearance of whatever you’re working with.
Can confirm, wasn’t a believer until I was gifted a very nice brand of these eye patches. I believe Peter Thomas Roth Eye Patches. They were in a blue container and best kept in the fridge. I’ve tried cheaper versions but not the same at all.
Nice! Thanks!
This is the backend of your thirties lmao
ETA: btw, you can find good sheet masks for a decent price at Marshall’s and tjmaxx — especially the Dr. Jart hydrating sheet masks are really nice. Alternatively, I recently did a bulk order from stylevana and got like a years supply for about a hundred bucks. They’re kind of gratuitous imho — not necessary by a long shot, but personally I just really enjoy them. On days I wake up and I’m just not feelin it — I’ll put one on, close my eyes and just sit there for 15 minutes while I reset my intentions for the day. Ymmv, probably a waste of money at the end of the day and to each their own. I personally enjoy them for reasons that extend beyond whether they really do anything.
Lmfao I’ve already been contemplating this if I’m being honest 🙌🙌
34 and same. I hate going into the kitchen to get vitamin C etc.
wait... you keep your vitamin C in the fridge??? for topical application?
It helps keep it stable and not be exposed to light.
Yep! It’s supposed to stop it from oxidizing longer, if you use l-ascorbic acid. If it’s a derivative, it isn’t terribly important. It’s also less important at low concentrations (which I use) but I do it anyway.
Got one of those at 30, so I may need to upgrade to a larger size by the time I'm 40. Full body masks, here I come!
Do they need to be refrigerated or is that just more recommended for full effect?
I’m in my 30s and this is giving me goals!
Hey I didn't get one when I turned 40. It must have gotten lost in the mail lol
Really? Mine just appeared 😂
My sister is 17 and our fridge looks like that too😭
17 smh, that’s so sad
Hey girl, it aint gonna get better! You can’t de-age from YOUTH
Nothing wrong with a little self care!
If it makes you feel better, is it a waste of money?
No I agree imo it’s worth it for me. But I’m also aware of my tendencies to self justify anything so I always have to take what I tell myself with a grain of salt 😂
Those SKII masks are expensive but amazing. I won some at a charity auction and kept them for far longer than advised.
Oh I know!! This was a gwp and I’m saving it for a special occasion lol they’re insanely pricey!!
I've had similar results with a galactomyces ferment but not SKII results. My skin was plomp
Seems like they help you meditate, so either way a win
It's the best thing I've found for my mental health. It's amazing what just sitting and breathing can do, I'm always working on consistency though
why so much single use plastics 😭😭😭
It’s not plastic, they’re made of plant materials
I think they’re referring to the packaging but I imagine it’s necessary to prevent the masks from drying out.
The packaging is made of plant materials, they meant
Is it? I have gotten tons of these kinds of sheet masks and never realized. interesting!
It varies. For sure, some of them are sold in plastic packaging— thinking of one specifically sold at cvs. But the majority of them are in like a waxy paper? Idk how to describe it I can check when I get home what the packaging says I’m remembering most of the text on the packaging is in Korean. We shall see!
Is there product on them? What’s their deal?
It’s basically like: imagine an oval paper towel soaked in serum with holes cutout for eyes + mouth.
how long is the serum good for? Single use? Multi-use and you apply your own serum?
Single use. For 15-30 min
no lie ice water dunks did wonders for my skin, the same or sometimes more than any sheet masks
Paul Newman swore by that.
Ya but that was to curb the hangovers
how often? what time of day? 👀
I fell out of the habit but when I showered I'd take a nice hot shower and then turn it all the way cold, blast my face and body for 30 seconds. My skin loved it. You're all warm inside from the shower too so it feels so good, and definitely wakes you up.
i do it once in the morning and once before bed or at the very least i do the one before bed and pretty much every day
I always saw them as a waste of money and products like this are terrible for the environment.
Dipping your face in cold water, using a cold spoon or roller, or something reusable can have the desired effect and doesn’t create waste.
My silent response to much of what I see posted online is, "great, more crap for the landfill".
I appreciate that you recognize the exact same issue but instead of grumbling to yourself and moving on, you offer an alternative.
That's a great way to navigate the Internet where there is a lot of angrily shooting things down but offering nothing positive in exchange.
I'm going to practice doing this. Thanks 😊
They do absolutely nothing.
If you have puffy eyes, putting anything cold will help de-puff. Most derms say to just put 2 spoons in the fridge/freezer and use those lol. Way cheaper than eye creams and masks.
I wasn’t a fan. I found them to be a weird mix of warm and cold, dry and wet. I personally didn’t see any skin benefit either. Also I couldn’t wear my glasses at the same time, so I just had to sit there doing nothing/not being able to see for however long too.
I’m the opposite - significant short term impact to eye puffiness in a matter of minutes and they wear well with glasses (which actually hold them in place, as otherwise they’re prone to slowly slipping down your face)
Must be a face shape thing
Use the liquid product of your choice and a cold spoon or washcloth.
Those are just plastic soaked in product, and not only are they an environmental disaster, we're just now starting to learn about plastic and PFAS leaching through skin.
if they are cold they help with puffing but I also prefer them to eye creams bc they just feel better
I think I have these same eye masks (or very similar ones) and I LOVE THEM. But they are so smelly. BUT I LOVE THEM.
I love them. I have dry skin and I feel like it perks up the area around my eyes. If I've had a night out I will slap some on the next day. I get a box off amazon that's not that expensive.
I saw a dermatologist test hydration scores using eye masks on top of serums vs just using the serums. Using the eye masks did help with locking in moisture temporarily (few hours). There was also a study done on face masks and how daily use can improve skin hydration, skin barrier, and minimize appearance of fine lines.
So, can be useful. I’m too lazy to use sheet masks or eye masks daily, but I’ll use eye masks before an event and do find my concealer looks less cakey when I use them.
They basically help lock in the moisture from any eye creams, moisturizer, or any serum they come soaked in, and you can also keep them in the fridge for depuffing.
If you want to be more environmentally friendly and wallet friendly, I highly recommend getting some reusable ones! I’ve had the set from Dieux for about two years now? and they’re one of my favorite beauty purchases of the past few years.
It's not going to reverse aging (like all of the over-the-counter cosmetic products) but I consider feeling good an important part of self-care, so it's worth it in some aspects.
Would a frozen spoon do the same job, yes!
