Is there anyway you can iuse plexamp on a smart speaker. I know you can bluetooth it but its not the same. I've just cancelled my streaming service and miss the ease of saying play a certain track and it plays. If you could do this with plexamp it would be perfect. I realise amazon restrict this function which I assume is stopping this being integrated.
Will Plex ever get HomePod integration?
up to apple. we requested, never heard back
I looked over all the developer docs and I don’t see anything bout needing apples approval. Its based on the app
that was not the case when i checked. with ios 17 you should be able to ask homepod to play something via airplay which is not the same as running it on the homepod - https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10104/
Do you have any plans to make it so plex amp integrates with alex like spotify does it would be a nice feature for some people who pay for plex pass or even for free thats one of the things that are lacking
I don’t know if it’s changed, but with the Echo devices you just need the Plex Skill set up. You can then ask Alexa to “Ask Plex to play [artist/track name/genre]” instead of just “Play”
The only restriction I ran into was the inability to do multiroom sync using the Plex skill. But you can still use it in multiple rooms, just with all diff tracks.
Big bummer that you cannot cast from the Spotify App to the speakers!!!
I use Plex on my Alexa devices all the time, but there are no Plexamp features. Works great for playing playlists or library radio though.
One thing I did do is set up some Alexa routines to make my commands shorter. So instead of saying "Alexa, ask Plex to shuffle playlist All Music", I just say "Alexa, random music", and it works.
Just worked this out for myself and loving it. There's a neat trick to get multi-room (kind of) working too. I have one Alexa device that will default to playing everywhere then add routines (e.g. Play some music everywhere) and set it respond from that device.
Just wish the skill could add some of the plexamp functionality.
Can you explain a little better how to get the multiroom working? I haven't been successful with that.
The Alexa Plex Skill is definitely an option or you could use a Raspberry pie and Headless Plexamp for streaming to the speaker. But as you've said this doesn't have the "Asking Alexa to play XYZ" function that's nice with Spotify etc.
I've just resorted to using the Plex skill and Saying "Alexa, Ask Plex to Play XYZ" and leaving it at that for speakers I don't have headless for.
That's one of my wishlist features: being able to cast PlexAmp audio from a tablet/phone to *any* Echo device. Casting PlexAmp works great on my Nvidia Shield, I want the same for Echo.
Yes, I use the PLEX skill in Alexa too, mostly in the kitchen where I have a respectable stereo rig setup. But PlexAmp would be so much easier and dodge me yelling over running music so the Echo can hear the command.
siri works well with plexamp, but homepods don’t let us integrate. you could put an ipad on the wall and then have it control headless plexamp which is line into something, but i realize that’s more difficult and expensive (but also offers some decent advantages).
