QuestionUS small size

Are star notes worth anything? I began collecting them on a whim.

Expertise needed: An 1890s Educational Series “Proof” Note? (TLDR at the end)US large size

I need helping finding information or a link to a website regarding something I saw at a coin/currency show yesterday.

I was at a guy’s table who had a bunch of paper money and he pulled out a stack of what appeared to be US Educational Notes ($1, $2, $5). However these notes did not contain a serial number or seal and the note was single sided (one side with the design and one side blank). These notes had perfect detail, raised printing, the same paper feel as an ordinary note, and overall looked and felt like a GEM Uncirculated grade of the Education series notes.

The guy that had them was telling me that the notes were the same thing as a proof coin, but in paper money. He didn’t call it a “proof” though he called it something like “inglio…” or “aglo…” or something like that (I can’t remember the word to save my life). And that the story behind it was that the BEP used the original plates, and inked them a single time to print these notes so that they’d be like a “proof/inglio…” test note that the BEP would present to the secretary of treasury (I may be wrong on which office).

I wanted to buy one or two of them but not before doing my research on them and I didn’t end up making it back to his table before we left. They were only $10-$20 apiece and it was a really cool item because I certainly can’t afford an Educational note even in poor condition. Now I would still like to purchase them but I can’t find anything online about them and nothing similar and I don’t remember the guys name either. Any info or links would be greatly appreciated. And I’ll try to answer any questions the best I can.

TLDR: I need help finding a “proof” version of the US Educational notes.
