I'm currently pregnant with my second baby. My first one I delivered at QMC and it wasn't a good experience. Has anyone had experience at both as I would love your input on where I should go this time around x
City Hospital definitely, the birthing centre is great there. On the ground floor too, which is actually very helpful
I had the worst experience in City. I had an hemorrhage because a procedure they did (without telling me) and did not have the instruments in the room to stop it. I would avoid both QMC and City like the plague and either go to Sherwood, Derby or anywhere else really. The care I received was really substandard (and it was only 7 months ago). I really don’t wanna scare you, but it’s the experience I got and I wish I knew when I decided to go there.
Had 2 bad experiences at Queens but heard good things at City. Nottingham hospitals are being investigated as the level of care was quite bad. The Ockenden report? I'm hoping this is leading to better care now, though
We went with city last year because it was closer - we had some complications but felt like it was all dealt with very well so no complaints on that side. Could tell they were short staffed on the maternity ward though.
Maternity services struggling is a national thing. Derby have now been rated by the CQC as inadequate. Nottingham (QMC/City) and Lecister are requires improvement. Kings Mil overall good but requires improvement for safety. Maternity is just so overlooked by the government.
I would avoid both especially if you are black or Asian.
My son was born at City. Worst experience of our lives. The maternity ward there is currently under criminal investigation.
Everyone I know that went to QMC at least had a better experience than we did.
The investigation relates to both hospitals and the baby deaths that occurred at QMC and City. I think the time period is also something like 20 years.

The point is that it’s the university trust that’s being investigated and City isn’t singled out.
I see. I didn't know that. Either way, City was horrendous.
Depends where you live tbh, and if you’ve got a planned c-section, you’re being induced or natural birth. I would have needed gas and air myself if I had to take my partner in labour through rush-hour traffic to QMC and then find parking.
We had all 3 of ours at City and they were great. Was closer to home which was a massive factor and parking is easier for us and visitors. All the best!
I had a great birth at City and received loads of 1:1 care in summer 2020. However I was lucky enough to have a very straightforward birth.
We had our daughter at city beginning of 2020, first and only child, so haven’t got any comparisons, but the entire thing was perfect for us - I don’t know how much of that was due to it being a very fast and straightforward labour, but the midwife was amazing and made me feel so comfortable, the staff after were lovely too and really supportive. The only niggle I had was when we were moved up to the ward after, one of the lady’s up there had a ready made bottle of milk and gave it straight to my daughter without asking whether or not we were boobing or bottling, but other than that, if we were to ever have another (not likely haha) it would be at city no doubts at all
Good luck trying to park at city I’d go kings mill
delivered 4 children at city between 2003-2021 no complaints whatsoever. Always had the best care. Good luck ❤️
I haven't been to both. But for what it's worth, I had my 3rd at QMC at the end of 2020 and it was the best care I have received. I was in and out a lot during my pregnancy and they were great every visit/stay xx
We had twins at City in April of last year and it was a great experience, we were there every fortnight for scans (because of the increased risk with identical twins) and the service and care we got from start to finish was fantastic.
As someone else mentioned the only downside we experienced was that the parking is horrific, an actual nightmare on some occasions.
Neither, go to Kings Mill. They dont suggest it as its a different NHS trust, but you have the right to choose.
I've only done City, and it... wasn't the best experience. However, full disclosure, it was mid-2020 and some of what i dealt with could've been due to the pandemic.
I'm opting for Kings Mill next time, even if its a little bit more of a drive.
