"STAR WARS Episode I: The Phantom Menace" was released 25 years ago today in 1999
You shut your mouth đ
I came to the same conclusion when I read a recent article in the NYT about Ahmed Best, his Star Wars fandom and his first ever acting role motion capturing and voicing Jar Jar Binks.
Man i was so hyped... And then i had to tell myself it was okay.
Yes. The long denial.
I still have my VHS tape that Iâd pre-ordered from Blockbuster :D
I still remember how deeply annoyed i was hearing Jar Jar binks...
How wude
Are all of my unopened ep 1 action figures finally worth something?
and fans would never SHUT UP ABOUT IT again.
Straight up. I cannot wait for star wars to finally die. Beating a dried dead horse at this point with all the bullshit.
Same with Marvel. That well is tapped out
I think it'll never go away. I was never a fan. I mean, it's fine. But I'm completely dispassionate.
the start of a series of garbage sequels to a great original trilogy, this narrow focus on the skywalkers shows you how truly myopic Lucas' creativity was.
I remember leaving middleschool one day and racing as quick as we could to the closest theater on our bikes to buy pre sale tickets for it. Went on opening day. We thought we were witnessing history! Small town america really warps your perception of the world.
Meanwhile, literally two days ago my folks gave me a Phantom Menace phone case from their trip to Orlando with my sisterâs family. And since I needed a case anyway, and said case was free (at least to me), I wasnât gonna say no.
Despite I was young I remember the lead up, all the marketing.
I was a kid and idgaf this shit RULED
Wow! You mean to tell me that I've been hating on Jar Jar for a quarter of a century?
Best Star Wars movie.
Uhhhhhh
I said what I said.
I dunno, weren't the re-releases "enhanced Special Edition" of the trilogy in 1997 worse?
They were awesome in 1997 seeing it on the big screen, including deleted scenes and new effects. It was great, even when it came out on vhs. The biggest problem was 2004 with the dvd release, and the lack of original cut.
Oh, and I saw this with friends when I was in law school. Before the show I openly floated the idea of loudly discussing fake spoilers (âI really couldâve done without Yodaâs full frontal scene!â âBill Murray lounge-singing the score was weird!â) as we were walking out, but sadly my friends donât necessarily share my interests in sowing needless chaos.
They made episode 1?
It was closer to the original movie release at that time then it is to us now...
