Looking to go do a 2 night trip with my pups, I usually go to desolation or emigrant but not sure if it’s too early in the season for those areas if I don’t want to trek through snow. Any recs?
Recommendations for a dog friendly backpacking trail next weekend?
Is it relatively easy to drive to or will one need a high clearance vehicle? Just got a regular sedan.
It's been a couple years since I've been out there, but 2wd was fine and high clearance was not needed
Thanks! Looked through google maps using satellite- as you said, looks like it should be fine. Will give it a shot next few weeks, thanks!
Ya, for Lake Spaulding, any car is totally fine, it’s all paved to that TH. Its the other ones, Carr Lake, Grouse Ridge, Lindsey Lakes, that are up forest roads and while I’ve seen some questionable cars up there, 4x4 or high clearance makes it a lot easier to get to those.
You guys are legends, thanks! Will be taking the cats out there - always looking for new spots that are accessible.
Thanks for the rec! This looks great!
Look into Spaulding Lake. I haven’t been up there yet this season but it typically melts out fairly quick and it’s usually my first hike of the season. USFS snow depth map can hopefully give you a pretty good idea. Sentinel Hub satellite too.
Fordyce Falls is really cool and probably raging right now.
