Didn’t realize we’d see northern light on the night of 5/10 when we got to Black Sands Beach Trailhead. Plus getting one day of sunny hike was amazing too!
Thank you! We’re still digesting this luck and just in awe with this hike! Our first time to LCT!
Omgosh! And thank you so much for taking the time to share the names of wild flowers! We were wondering some of these! Didn’t know searocket is non-native! And I thought the sea bindweed is a kind of morning glory?
So amazing! Loved that hike so much
Yes! I’m so grateful!!
Unbelievably gorgeous! Glad you had an amazing time! LCT is the magical place to be!
Thank you so much Friend!!! Lots of gratitude and appreciation after this trip!
Infinitely jealous and equally happy for you.
Awwww! Thank you! But LCT is magical at all times!
Wow! I was out there with you on 5/11 but I was asleep 😭😭😭
Ohhh man! I could totally understand tho since we had to wake up so early the next day! But wait! Did I see you on the trail??
No, we were at Big Flat when you were starting.
I've been waiting to see pictures of lucky hikers during this time. Thank you for sharing!
Feeling like I hit the jackpot! Lol! You’re welcome!
Daaaang. That’s sweet! You for sure lucked out. Not to hijack but I am planning on going in a couple months. Any tips?
I started typing out the whole gist for you and my kitty decided to restart my laptop while I was away so I lost everything unsaved😭 So sorry!!! I'm going to use copy and paste from notepad for long response from now on. But one very IMPORTANT thing I wanna share: if you're doing north to south route, after big flat, you'd hike on the bluff for a bit before seeing a big wooden arrow pointing you to get off the bluff and hike down on the beach. You could keep hiking on the bluff for maybe 1 more minute and eventually will see another sign with "LCT" and pointing you to go down to the beach again. Although you could see a trail on the bluff, listen to the sign and GET OFF the bluff even though hiking on sand is not preferable. We saw a couple kept going on the bluff and eventually had to turned around and added at least 2 miles on their journey. SMH...
I think you can find all the general info in the main thread here. But please DM me if you'd like to chat more! Hope you have so much fun on this magical hike!
Wow that is gorgeous, what luck!
Edit: also you saw some great flowers of the coast too in image 5, from top left to bottom right: Iris douglasiana (Douglas iris), Abronia latifolia (yellow sand verbena), Cirsium occidentale (cobweb thistle), Cakile maritima (European searocket, non-native), Calystegia soldanella (sea bindweed), and Eschscholzia californica (California poppy) among Stachy sp. (hedgenettles).
