Howdy! I and 2 friends were going up to the redwoods in a few weeks. We were looking at doing the bike in camping at Gold Bluff in PCRSP and then heading to Redwood National Park and 2 nights of dispersed backpacking. My concern is about leaving our bicycles at the Redwood Ck TH for 2 nights. Does anyone know if there's any place safe (and official) to store 3 bicycles for a few days? Thanks!
update
In case anyone finds this thread, I ended up changing up the plans because Redwood Creek was still too high and it was not open for dispersed camping. I did, however, speak with the kind folks at Kuchel visitor center who told me they do NOT recommend leaving the bikes there, they did however inform me about a number of other hike/bike campsites that did not need reservations and one plan was to leave our car at the visitors center and then bike to Gold Bluffs, then to Mill Creek or Jedediah.
Ultimately we ended up doing 2 nights on the south Lost Coast, which was a blast, and didn't do any bike camping. Still was great!
I’ve lived near and worked in the parks for the last 10 years. Do not leave the bikes overnight at the Redwood Creek trailhead parking area in plain view. Along with the Endert’s Beach parking lot, the Redwood Creek trailhead sees the most frequent break-ins (overnight or even during the day) throughout RNSP.
What I would do is hide the bikes off the little access road that leads to the trailhead parking lot, making sure they can’t be seen from the road. I’d also call or talk to a ranger at the Kuchel Visitor Center to discuss your theft concerns and what you’d like to do. They should have some other ideas to consider.
