Over several months I've gone from complete no-burp to the point where I can burp enough to get relief from most meals, but can't burp for longer than 1 second or so at a time. For a big meal or any alcohol, it takes a couple hours of tons of these small burps to start to feel relief. Does anyone have tips on moving up to larger 4-5 second burps that give more relief?
Most people with R-CPD have distention at the top of the esophagus just under the UES, where the air has been trying to escape for years. When I saw Dr. Bastian he said if this is the case, you will most likely micro burp for awhile until the esophagus tightens up, as it needs to be tight to push the bigger burps out. So I would just keep practicing, are you able to drink carbonated water? That will be good practice.
Thanks that makes a ton of sense! I often have big gurgles that I can only partially burp out and the rest of the gurgle recedes, I suppose my esophagus isn't strong enough to push out the whole gurgle.
I've been drinking a lot of carbonated water, usually leads to 10+ small burps over the next couple hours.
Did Dr. Bastian give any other suggestions for tightening up the esophagus?
Hi, apologies for replying on such an old post, but I'm curious to know if you have had any progress since posting this? Especially since it's been over 2 years.
