[Garcia] When free agency opens, the Spurs will be an over the cap team, having access to the $12.9 milion non-tax MLE & the $4.6 million bi-annual exception. If they start renouncing FAs or waiving players on non-guaranteed deals, it means they're going toward the cap space route
It's probably because of the cap hold of Cedi and Sandro, plus us not waiving Devonte' yet.
Yeah, between Osman, Barlow, and Dieng their cap holds are about 17M
Ohh you're right. I always get confused with cap holds.
We aren't, but we are with cap holds.
Is this only due to delaying the decision on waiving Graham? Which will surely happen if they can't use his expiring deal as salary matching in a trade... and then the team will be under the cap again.
That and cap holds. Renouncing Osman, Sandro, and Barlow frees up about $17M. Waiving their players on non-guaranteed contracts is another $18M.
I'd be pissed if we renounce the rights to Barlow and Sandro
Barlow is gonna be a UFA. Though we might bring him back
He really improved alot imo. I'd hate to see him go
I like him a lot, but I wouldn't be too mad.
I love the guys we have and While a lot of them are young and have room to improve, I think it's fairly evident that all anyone but Devin, Jeremy, and Wemby can hope to be on a championship team are probably 7th men or below so I'm not gonna get too twisted as we lose these guys.

I mean you're not wrong. I just get this way with our guys lol I didn't wanna lose Baynes or Eubanks or Jonathon Simmons etc
Most teams would rather just have the lowered salary than pay him 12 million
Seems logical to get under the cap unless they know they can swing for a star.
It seems crazy that we would go any other route than cap space given the lack of our own useful FAs. Unless there's some insane trade coming that would put us over even if we dump Zach and cut the nonguarantees
Why would they do that. ☝️☝️
Why would we? Well, in theory if you need to have enough salary match to make the new weird cap rules work to get, say, Garland...maybe it makes sense? But nobody wants to give 12 million bucks to Graham...maybe a cap team trying to preserve a bit of salary match? But that contract is terrible, as is Zach's, relative to production
yeah I meant, there's something weird and fishy going on, and they expect to be needing to match some salaries (or they would have cut Devonte before he got his salary partially guaranteed).
They are going to want to keep as much flexibility for a few years from now. They should dip that tax to avoid the repeater penalties that will come into effect once Wemby is ready for a title run in 2+ years
San antonio zzzzzzzpurzzzz

To be fair, they're the same size
"this is the worst draft of all time"
"The 8th pick would've meant the Spurs are competing to win soon"
Okay
Generational talent 6'1, 160 pound, San Antonio Spurs savior: Rob Dillingham
because if they want an undersized offensive machine who is a defensive liability, they have enough draft capital to go after proven commodity that is Trae Young. Rob Dillingham can turn into anything, and in the best case scenario, he turns into Trae Young.
We drafted Castle 4th and we didn't want anyone available at 8. Nobody ragging on Portland for moving their second pick #14...
They got Deni Avdija, who is 23 and on a great declining contract, and dumped Malcolm Brogdon’s contract. Their trade was great. Hard to compare the two.
Deni's decent but he's not worth 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and the 20 mill expiring contract of the 2023 6moty. Portland just was desperate not to pay the tax, and wouldn't have had suitors for Brogdon until the deadline.
Avidja is more than just decent. He is a great rebounder, can handle the ball, and is a willing passer. He has one of the best value contracts in the NBA and finished 6th in the Most Improved Player voting. And it was 22.5M for an oft injured guy that played 39 games and did not resemble the 2023 6moty. He’s unlikely to fetch much at the deadline and has more likely to be bought out. Portland got more value in their trade than Spurs did in theirs. Presti or Ainge would’ve got more value when trading the #8 in a draft, even if it was a weak year.
Man just stop and think about it for a second. If the rebuilding Wizards are shipping out a young player on a cheap contract for picks and an expiring, they clearly don't see him in the same light you do. This was a salary dump move to save money period. Deni is ok.
Deni is better than Keldon Johnson and cheaper too. And I love Big Body, I have his Fiesta jersey. Wizards just got yet another front office staff and are stripping things down to the studs, so he’s not part of their rebuild. They’ll ship Kuzma ASAP and re-signed Holmes to a contract that will allow them to take on more bad money for future assets. If we could’ve got Deni and dumped Zach Collins for the #8, then that would’ve been a better haul than a 2031 first and a swap that may never convey. Getting the 2031 first is cool and could be anything from pick 1-30, but that trade did not impress me and I don’t think it showed Wemby that we care much about next season. Playing the lottery with future picks and swaps instead of proven commodities isn’t my preferred path.
You do you. I'm not patting the trailblazers on the back for sending out assets to fix their own financial mistakes.
You're hyping up someone that played big minutes on the team that just got the 2nd pick. I don't get it.
Thanks man. I will. Putting up efficient stats on a bad team is no small feat. I think you’re underrating him, but that’s fine. We’re all entitled to our opinions.
6th in the Most Improved Player voting
Wow. When do they start sculpting his bust for the hall?
Not sure, but did you see we signed CP3?! He’ll be in the Hall if that’s your only criteria for roster moves.
Hey hey now. That 6th grader might be taller
I don't understand how the Spurs are over the cap.

Adding Castle (8-9m$), mins for Mamu and Duke (4-5m$ total) I can't seem to make it go over 130 million and the cap is supposed to be 141.
