First Camping Trip on Motorcycle Norway good?

I want to do motorcycle Camping in Norway. The Problem is i dont know anything about motorcycle (I got my license in september, but i dont know technical Things Like changing oil for example) and Limited Things about Camping. Another Thing is that i would be going alone

I got July + August free and i Read that thats the best time to visit Norway. I Always wantet to visit the country an get to the "Nordkap"(northest Point. I dont know the Translation to Englisch im german).

I also Read that free Camping is a thing in Norway so i thought i could do a cheap fun Trip around Norway.

Do you think its possible to do that or will it end in a disaster?

Edit: Also online i Read that ITS about 7 to 10 Celsius at the northkap in August is that true?

You're going to need to learn both of these, one at a time, first. Get your motorcycle license and spend a year or two learning to ride before loading it down with camping gear.

Spend a year or two "car camping" on the weekends and learning what you can live without and what you can't.

Then put the two together.

I would never try to stop someone from having a great adventure, and I love motorcycle camping, but you are probably going to fail hard at both if you just go for it. There's value in failure too though, so if you're the resilient and resourceful type, go for it anyway.

Just get good riding gear because you're almost certain to dump it (crash / drop the bike).

You can do it. I would suggest that you first sign up for a motorcycle training class where you use their motorcycles to learn. You will get trained pretty quick and you will be a good rider. Then find an adventure motorcycle that is not too heavy and that you are comfortable on.

Look for groups in your area that do backpacking and overnight camping. You’ll want to keep your gear as light as possible but still warm enough for your destination which is common for both backpackers and motorcyclists.

Make sure you give yourself lots of time before your trip to practice riding with the gear on your bike. You will want to make changes before your big trip after you have some experience.

Finally do the trip with other riders. Maybe there is a motorcycle tour operator that operates on that route. Or maybe you can join a group that is interested in that or similar excursions.

Don‘t give up on your dream.

Scooters, mopeds and bicycles drive to Nordcap. There’s no need for any particular bike type.

There is nothing difficult in driving to Nordkap, but remember it rains a lot in Norway and it can get rather windy as well. Wet gear in a small tent is no fun. It’s not hot in the summer in northern Norway, but then you don’t sweat so much in your protective gear. Be prepared for real cold temperatures when crossing Saltfjellet.

Man, reading these cautious comments, is a challenge for me. By all means, do not take unnecessary risk. But, also remember that you’ll never be properly prepared until you go out there and see for yourself. Definitely learn basic maintenance for your bike.

You’ll definitely find yourself on unpaved roads/paths. Make sure to get some practice in between now and summer wherever you can.

Start using your bike for as much daily use as you can. Even running errands, strapping stuff to the bike and simulating the riding conditions of being fully loaded. Another commenter suggested weekend car camping. Yeah, this is good, but I’d say go on local weekend motocamping trips.

I’m by no means an expert or veteran at this. I just wrapped up my first trip. I was supposed to meet a group of riders and ran into an ABS issue in route. Cool, changed plans and spent 8 days solo camping. I FRIGGIN LOVED EVERY MOMENT!

In summary: don’t do anything you aren’t comfortable doing, but don’t let fear cripple your desires. Maybe Norway is a next year thing. Maybe you’ll find it perfectly accessible. Just watch as many YouTube videos, read blogs & articles and do lots and lots of research. Then setup your gear to find areas of improvement and do more research.

Most importantly, go enjoy your bike!

Just FYI. I did norway last year, and as one not very experienced in riding in mountains. The speedlimits are a straight up dare. Don't even try to reach the allowed 80 km/h on a twisty mountain road
