Now we all don’t know the exact numbers, but I reckon kids and teens make up a decent portion of people who watch the MCU and follow along. Do you think anything will be done by Disney to maybe make a pg-13 version on Disney+ after it leaves theaters in order to let the kids and teens follow along?
How will the kids/teens follow along with the MCU if they can’t watch DP3 due to it being rated R?
DiscussionSame. I remember being 5 years old when watching Kill Bill woth my parents and it was awesome. The moment The Bride squishes the eye with her foot is burned in my memory
Do you think teenagers are the minimum age for MCU fans? I did the first watch through of the Infinity Saga with my son when he was 6. He also knows and loves Deadpool from the Lego games and cartoons. I recently had to improve all my parental settings so he doesn't learn about pegging. But I feel confident he won't be able to see the movie any time soon.
Props on getting your kid into Marvel early, that’s a cool dad. If you aren’t aware, there’s a PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 he might like.
And also, he’s still got all the X-Men movies if wants to watch Wolverine stuff.
I did the first watch through of the Infinity Saga with my son when he was 6.
Yeah, I'm sure he comprehended that ..
The next MCU movie after DP3 is Captain America 4 which doesn't even come out until February 2025. Before CA4 comes out there will probably be 100's of "here's what you missed" or "what you need to know" videos on YouTube that won't be rated that underaged fans will be able to watch.
The Man of Recaps is my go-to.
- Watch the movies released before 2024
- Wait til you’re 18 then watch Deadpool 3
There is no marvel movie that requires you to see all other marvel movies to enjoy. If something essential is added, I’m sure they’ll touch base on it in whatever future movie references it. I follow along with Marvel comics, but I’m absolutely not reading every single book they put out.
They did a pg13 cut of 2 though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did here as well. I just really doubt anyone would be lost if they missed this one.
Stan Lee had a belief back in the day that every comic is someone’s first comic, and that things should be explained and justified enough to make sense to a first time reader. The movies seem to stick to this ethos.
They can watch it or not. Not everything is mandatory to watch in the MCU. You can skip shit and it won't matter.
The leaks say this movie is the most “mandatory” to watch compared to all the movies since Endgame. Apparently the plot pushes/starts the entire sagas overarching story
I’ve seen no leaks that say this
It was either Toast or Alex P. What happens at the end of Deadpool is DEFINITELY required viewing if you want to follow along with the overarching story. It has to do with mutants in the MCU. I guess what other comments are saying can be true, they’ll just explain what happened in other movies, but Deadpool is going to be a very important movie to watch
Both are not reliable.
That is called marketing.
Well that sounds made up.
Yeah I’m pretty active on the Marvel Spoilers subreddit and I haven’t seen the word “mandatory” used anywhere. I think people really exaggerate how much “homework” the MCU has - yes, certain things might be easier to understand if you watch it all, and the different projects absolutely reference each other liberally, but the best ones are able to be watched as stand-alone projects pretty well.
This one may “kick-start” the overarching story in a way that’s been missing post-Endgame, and it may reference or set up things that will pay off later, but every MCU movie is somebody’s first and the best ones are made with that in mind. For example, you could watch just the four Avengers movies and get a complete story without needing to watch anything else from the Infinity Saga. You wouldn’t know the characters as well as somebody who has watched everything, but you’d know enough for the story to make sense. The most confusing thing would be wondering why the Avengers aren’t all together at the beginning of Infinity War, but Tony explains that to Bruce pretty quickly. You may not know the why of it, but you don’t need to for that story to make sense.
I have no doubt that the important parts of the multiverse’s deterioration or “nexus beings” or whatever other concepts this movie introduces will be summarized and explained in future films. You may not get as much detail as you would if you watched this movie, but it will make sense
Are parents more strict now as to what they let their kids watch or did I just have a crazy childhood. My dad took me to see Terminator 2 in theaters when I was 13. We saw Die Hard 2 in theaters too. And I am pretty sure at some point maybe when I was 10-12 I had some friends over for a birthday sleepover and I know we watched Robocop and at least one Arnold movie (either Commando, Predator or Running Man).
Or was it just there weren't the kind of PG-13 action movies like they have now. There certainly wasn't Marvel movies. So if your kid wanted to watch an action movie it was basically an R rated Arnold movie.
Parents are generally more strict about media. Can confirm. Also more discerning - probably care less about language and more about sexual objectification/violence.
Most viewers who are too young for Deadpool are also too young to care about the intricate lore and continuity of the MCU.
Deadpool is it's own thing. It exists outside any other movies timeline or universe
According to leaks this next movie is mandatory viewing if you want to follow along with the sagas overarching story
Don't trust leaks. They want clicks. You'll end up disappointed if the movie isn't like that.
I’m aware. I’ve been following leaks for years, I know when they’re telling the truth. There are reliable leakers like Alex P who very rarely are wrong.
Oh shit, I didn't realize you've been following them for years. No one else here has been doing that for 16 years. You're one of a kind!
Well when multiple leakers say Deadpool and Wolverine come to the MCU and bring mutants with them, as well as establishing what an anchor is in the MCU and that Ironman dying to another being from a different universe is what is causing incursions in the main MCU universe, it seems like it’s going to happen and be very important
Disney is not making an R rated movie the foundation stone for the next several years of movies.
Whoever told you that is making things up to see how far they'll go.
OMG is this actually a concern?
Lol is this a real post?
R ratings have never stopped a single teenager from seeing a movie
If teens want to watch it they'll watch it and Europe it's going to be rated 15
And kids don't care about the connections
tbh it all depends on the parents of said kids. if the parents truly give no fucks and wanna take them, they have every single right to.
as for teenagers, who actually gives a shit, they can sneak in or get someone older (like a parent) to just take them
I dunno, how much money did Once Upon a Deadpool make?
That's not really a fair barometer. It's just Deadpool 2 with scenes cut and a framing device to explain them away.
A fully original Deadpool movie could be PG-13, but I don't think they want to risk it now.
OP is asking about an alternate cut of Deadpool & Wolverine, not a fully original PG-13 film.
Disney will release a PG synopsis a few months after the movie on D+
Are parents really that strict about stuff like this? In my youth (late 90s, early 00s) I watched lots of R rated content and listen to explicit music. My parents just actually taught me why it’s wrong to say certain things in public. So, I never did. Still consumed things like Scarface and explicit music as young as 6 years old. 🤷🏾♂️
Children aren't following the plot to begin with, and teenagers knowing how to bypass R ratings is such common knowledge that it's a frequent joke in media.
I think very little about Deadpool & Wolverine will connect to the rest of the MCU. It looks mostly like a sendoff to the Fox universe. If anything from D&W ends up showing up again later, it'll be something that can be explained in one line of dialogue.
That’s incorrect. It has huge ramifications for the MCU going forward
That's incorrect. Disney isn't making an R rated movie define the future of the MCU.
How do people fall for these things?
That’s a very definitive statement for a movie that isn’t coming out for a couple of months….oh wait…leakers told you so…
Multiple leakers said the same plot leak of Tony stark is the anchor of the mcu and him dying to something from another universe is what is causing the deterioration of the entire universe the mcu is set on. Its probably true
I think that this movie will be more standalone. There isn't going to be as much of a shift where everyone needs to watch this in order to make the X-Men make sense.
Wait until it streams 😂
Yes, because we as a species are known for following the rules...Hope you're not usually this naive OP 😂
They could release a censored version on D+ later down the line like they did with DP2.
But honestly, I highly doubt you'll HAVE to watch this to understand future movies, they could easily sum up or explain the events of the movie if they need to.
Both Deadpool movies had PG-13 cuts it'll likely be the same here. Plus a lot of people back then ignored it.
9 year olds weren’t putting together every detail to begin with
They'll probably release a pg13 version like they did with Deadpool 2.
Has an R rating ever stopped kids from watching a movie. I doubt it. I saw a lot of kids playing Deadpool and Wolverine last Halloween so I don't see it being a problem.
I saw the original Scream (with parents permission) back in the late 90s when I was around 8 or 9. I saw 28 Days later in theaters when I was, like, 13 (without parents permission). I'm sure kids will see Deadpool as well.
They made a PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2. I'm sure they'll just make one for Deadpool 3. This is a non-issue.
tbh who cares about the kids lol
Rated R is just 17 or older. Deadpool 2 has a PG-13 version that's actually pretty funny (once upon a Deadpool)
Jfc
All the required things are explained in the movies which are connected to past stuff, people watch them if they are good or because they want the payoff to hit harder. And let me tell you, anyone who is 13 years or older, the R rating isn't going to stop them (I am 16 rn, so am speaking from experience).
Who cares, the core audience will be just fine.
When I was a kid, rated R or Mature game made me want it more. In fact my parents could never regulate what media I was consuming. I wonder how many "good kids" that never watched a rated R movie because their parents told them not to.
They'll find it for free on the web if they can stop watching porn for a few minutes
Just like we watched Star Wars,
I’m pretty sure all kids ages seen Deadpool already 1and2 this will be no different
I'm sure they'll do a "Once upon a Deadpool"-style cut. They could even release it in cinemas in 6 months time for a bump in sales
I hope they release a pg-13 version I’ll go see with my 10 Year old
They have to decide for themselves if they want to see the movie or not. Also, nobody says that it's mandatory to watch this movie just to follow along with the MCU. I mean, not in phase four to whatever, these days. Phase One was just introducing the key characters that will form the Avengers. Phase Two of the MCU was more of a fallout to the events of "Avengers (2012)" plus introducing the Guardians of the Galaxy and then Phase Three was introducing magic (Doctor Strange) more new characters (Spider-Man, Ant-Man and the Black Panther) into the MCU before we get to "Avengers Infinity War" and Endgame and the "Civil War" between the Avengers. Captain Marvel was just brought in so very late into the game in the present day and the past events throughout her entire movie just basically retconned everything that knew about the MCU before Infinity War and Endgame.
And now we have phases four to whatever where it's just focusing on all these other supporting characters and wrapping up Spider-Man's story as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy. Oh and Chadwick Boseman's death just affected the original plans for "Black Panther 2." So now, we have Shuri acting as the temporal Black Panther until her nephew comes of age and then she will retire the mantle onto him and random ass shit with all these newer characters like Echo, She-Hulk, Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight (which is basically its' own thing.) Oh and Loki supposedly died in the original timeline. But thanks to all that time-traveling bullshit in Endgame, another variant of Loki exists outside of time and space and is working with a group called the TVA and is now taking all the timelines in the form of a Yggdrasil.
Oh and the Eternals were just there. Oh and apparently, Black Widow had a family but she didn't bother to come and check on them during her time with the Avengers. And that's it. Oh and the Skrulls have been on Earth for a very long time, but Nick Fury hasn't promised them that he would find a new home for them. And somehow, the X-Men exist in another universe?!?! And there's another universe where the Fantastic Four does exist?! And there's this guy named Kang the Conqueror who is supposed to be set up as the next big bad, but unfortunately his actor, Jonathan Majors is serving time in prison for allegedly sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend. So, that's gonna fuck up the original plans for his character since they spent all that time trying to make Jonathan Majors into the next big time. And since not everybody else cares about Carol Danvers, or Echo or Ant-Man after his third film or Doctor Strange after his second film, or the Eternals or She-Hulk or RiRi Williams (Iron Heart), or Monica Rambeau or Kamala Khan (despite her actress actually being a fan of Marvel comics, herself and actually giving a damn about her performance). And with Tony Stark and Natasha Romanov dead and Steve Rogers is now an old man, Hawkeye is retired, Thor is now a joke and nobody else cares about Smart Hulk, Marvel Studios is seriously panicking at this moment. So now they have to rely on Deadpool and the X-Men to finally "save" the MCU. Which we all know is bullshit.
Yeah, it's best to just think of everything else in the MCU at this point as more a standalone storyline and certain events should be more self-contained.
Why are people so worried about DP3 being R rated and the kids.
DP3 is the only MCU of 2024. Which is ridiculous
So.... remember Disney likes to make money
DP2 came out R and later PG
I expect the DP3 PG release later this year.
I’ve seen every Marvel film in the theater, and tbh I rarely saw anyone under 25.
Lol .. you think kids/teens do not watch R rated movies? You obviously never have teen age children before.
Deadpool's R isn't even Hard R. It's more like teenage say the F word and shoot em up R.
There's nudity & graphic gore in Deadpool films; it's not just cussing.
As someone who was a teenager in 2016, I promise you the R rating prevented NO ONE at any age who wanted to watch that movie from watching it.
