Had posted before with varying responses but wanted to share now that we have more landscaping completed. Grass is still a WIP & driveway to come but wanted to share something a bit different that my husband & I have done over the last 2 years.
Yeah this is my dream bro, but poor af lol
What about your dream gal?
She's broke as shit too.
She’s doing worse than dream bro.
You have an odd choice in women
More common than you know.
Rough economy
I mean hopefully she's there with it too. But being poor af makes things on that front difficult too 😅
Even someone who isn't poor cannot afford this lol
This would be a 4 or 5mil dollar home where I live. I don't think you're poor, he's just super rich.
Seriously. I'm 35 and would kill for anything 1/4th this.
Well done OP
I’m 34. I feel that. Haha
I’m 44. Homeowner, yes. That kind of homeowner, no.
- cries in older millennial starting career right after the financial crisis *
I'm 39 this year and only just started on a career path. I'll be lucky to have any sort of livable house before I retire.
Thanks man. Much appreciated!
What's ur job?
If I saved up, I think I could afford one of the chairs.
If I saved up, maybe I could afford to buy it from you if you ever sold it at a yard sale or something.
Right? Oh how I could decorate with a few mil in the bank.
Constraint makes creativity. Or so I tell myself with my FB Marketplace ahh budget;)
It's official. I am poor.
The irony is that statistically, by income in our country and region we’re not poor, but the land and cost to build a house this size is still many millions of dollars at the very least, and we’re still far too poor to even come close to being able to afford it
It wasn’t cheap for sure, but def not millions.
How middle-of-nowhere are you living that this land+build didn't cost you more than $1m?
They said "not millions", plural.
$1.25 mil, Ohio (OP said in other comments)
Ah, so not millions, just million.
Considering their username is 'mericanexpat' I'm pretty sure they're living outside the US in a country with a lower cost of living and property.
It's in Ohio
That’ll do it.
same thing
checks bank account….
fuckkkkkk
Bet OP does too after this build
that’s cause we are lol
I am poor. I feel poor, as well.
I feel a need to watch The Brady Bunch.
Looks like John wicks house
Oh man… someone tell this man to be careful getting a puppy
Haha andddd we have a 7 month old husky & 9 month old Norwegian elkhound
An ironically noisy contrast to the quiet haven that your photos imply!
Nah they aren’t all that noisy to be honest… the ducks however…
Nah, I mean, John and the pup were good, just don't mess with this guy's pup!
Btw, the problem was the car, so just drive a honda civic and you're good!
The problem was neighbourhood.. so just don’t have any white neighbours.
Or a wife
Nah… dicks only for this household 🤣
Haha, I love it, but I was looking at the pics thinking, “there is no way a woman lives here.”
Beautiful.. looks like my houses in the sims 4
The shelves over the thin windows are prime Sims 4 design choice
I heard Jennifer Coolidge in my head saying "These are some high end gays". Beautiful house. I really like the choices you've made it feels very cohesive.
Thanks! Much appreciated
Let me be Daniel Mac.
What do you do for living?
Twins! My living situation is basically exactly the same as yours. The only real difference being I’m technically homeless and sleeping on my friends Murphy bed in his spare room/office because my wife left me out of nowhere 2 months ago. But like other than that, we basically have the same home situation going on.
Are you mocking him? No way does this dude have a sweet ass bed that just folds down from the wall.
Dude I know. I was a little worried OP may be jealous of that flex, but the other similarities were too uncanny for me not to comment
Lmao
I used to think Murphy beds were cool. I still do but I used to too.
Lmao
are you ok?
I’m better than ok, I’m straight up in denial😁🤙
lol. On a real note, I’m actually healing really well, got a great support system around me. Wild/painful times but also new beginnings👌
But if your wife left you, shouldn’t she be the homeless one?
Eh long story. Short version is I assumed we would sell the house because we bought when interest rates sucked and our mortgage was insane - but she wanted to keep it and I didn’t wanna foot the bill for the mortgage myself so we split the money evenly, she took the house and I took our Roth IRA.
I didn’t want the house, but even if I did, it wouldn’t have been worth it to me to fight for it cause of the mortgage and also prolonging the already painful process of divorce.
Keeping the Roth was the right move. ;)
Brother kept the Roth 😎
IRA MENTIONED 🇮🇪
Hang in there buddy, may the force be with you.
I will cling to both this comment, and the principle stated by your username, to propel me through this season✊
live long and prosper to you friend🖖
Why do you keep your wine in the sun?
Because it’s for show and not for drinking?
Tbh the wine situation makes me question this entire post lol. There are some, generally speaking, really shitty wines in that kitchen. I’d be amazed if OP could have the taste for this beautiful custom house build while also having horrible taste in wine. Not impossible though!
It’s easy to have taste when you pay someone to make things look good for you.
To be fair him and his husband have posted a handful of times as they've made progress. They've made it seem as if they have planned and executed everything themselves. Could be lying, but it appears that this is all them. Also, could be the husband that has the real taste in design.
Thanks for the defense… u are correct. I designed inch by inch, kicked the builders designer out after too many farmhouse oriented suggestions haha thankfully I did know most of my choices before beginning the build outside of lighting, fixtures etc
Doesn't explain the wine tho...
In his defense, I have a reasonably nice and well stocked wine rack, I don’t even drink wine and the wines I have are $15-$25 per bottle, and are for when friends come to visit.
I’d be a little nervous having bottles on a corner like that. But great looking house.
Coming from a wine region in Europe I can promise that you can get very good wines all below 10€.
Thinking wine must be expensive means you either have no idea or are some posh wanna be.
Sure, if you really want that taste of aged red wine, you need to spend a bit more, I'll give that, but apart from that...
As someone pointed out below, I have accrued ideas we love for our home for several years and had a very stressful year mocking up this house inch by inch on grid paper. So yes… it was designed by me almost entirely. I admittingly did have someone draw up our decking plans with thorough direction on the expected outcome.
lol he’s clearly doing something right! just a funny contrast from my POV 🤷♂️
I mean if you have a poorly temperature and humidity controlled wine unenclosed display wall would you rather put cheap decoration bottles on display and keep your good wine in better conditions or leave your more expensive wine essentially out on a table.
I do high end AV for a living and work in these sorts of homes all the time. Most likely the wines were put there by the decorator or gifted by the builder. I see it all the time.
It’s a good point… I don’t need expensive wine to satisfy the need for a drink. We do use this for the wine we drink, not wine to show necessarily.
Those are all pretty much sub $15 bottles. Losing a bottle is probably a drop in the ocean for OP.
I guess he'll just have to drink it faster
And drink Kim Crawford at that?
Wine cellar wasn’t in the budget
Neither was a real driveway either. All this and then crushed gravel leading to the garage is crazy
It all looks fancy but it’s probably some prefabs put together. Not knocking it at all. I’d love a place like that. But definitely was limited by budget. Which I would be too
Most of those aren’t super expensive. That said, the Prosecco and the whites should be in a cooler.
Biggest way to tell high end wine, actual corks. These are all twist offs except the Prosecco and I think two of the reds if I remember the bottles right.
Source: bartender/server/level 1 somm
Cork is not always a tell. I sell plenty of $4-5 (retail) bottles of wine that have corks and plenty of $25+ bottles that are stelvin closure.
Source: I work for a major distributor
Lots of high end Aussie and NZ wine uses a stelvin. It’s slowly changing.
But ooof, Lamarca and Kim Crawford. Lordy.
Looks like the average bottle on there is somewhere in the $20 range

Honestly I think it's the tackiest part of the house, anyone who comes over who is actually into wine will find this distasteful. It'd be like having a shelf full of lagunitas. Sure it's good alcohol, and I'd be happy to be offered it, but put it in the fridge, don't show it off in poor storage conditions
anyone who comes over who is actually into wine will find this distasteful
why would you actively invite dickheads into your house though
and by dickheads I don't mean people who are into wine (I'm into wine myself), but anyone that seriously has an issue with commercial mainstream wine just being on a shelf is a dickhead. sure if you're spending $100+, put it in storage, but anything else is fine wherever.
Looks phenomenal
The white tile on the bathroom floor makes it look like bubbles overflowing the tub.
Call me old fashioned I like a door to my bathroom. I don't want a tub spitting distance from my bed.
i swear i've seen this bathroom on a reno show, i remember hating that tile and that there was no door. for the life of me i can't remember which show, though maybe more than one person has this design.
There was another person who posted a very similar setup on this sub and people roasted him for designing his bedroom like a hotel.
Edit: oh it's the same guy
Yup same guy. Now the house is complete. And funny enough, we did get the inspiration from a modern hotel in Barcelona. As I message, my husband is hanging in the tub with a coffee while I lay in bed relaxing. Then we chat from time to time. We enjoy being able to relax together in different ways. There’s a door to the toilet. That suffices for the privacy needed haha
The humidity in that bedbathroom is going to ruin the bed soon enough anyway.
Hello father....When can I move in?
Luckily for you, it’s actually hello fatherS!
I think at least one prefers Daddy.
One of those multimillion houses you see on YouTube.
Which are never actually inhabited, just being resold endlessly
I hate you. 😂
❤️
A friend recently asked me (male, hetero) how much it would take to suck a random dick. Seeing these pictures, I think I'm closing in on an answer
As somebody who gets regularly sucked by guys but still dates girls, sorry to burst your bubble but the gay market is so saturated with eager mouths at any time of the day, any season of the year that you can't hope to command the same financial requests that a hot woman does haha
You must be unfamiliar with my game
On your knees and show me, boi 👇
HORNY JAIL, NOW
( ͡ ಠ ʖ̯ ͡ಠ)
Dude your username absolutely checks out. You do you bro 😂
Eager... mouths... I just needed to reemphasize.
I could do a whole write up on this. You’re on the supply side… whereas the people who would pay the above commenter would be on the demand side.
Like… let me put it like this. Say two people have a storage of oranges… they have to sell the oranges. Person A has a bunch of nice yummy oranges. So everybody wants to take those yummy oranges. Person B has sad old oranges… nobody wants to take person Bs oranges because they are old and yucky. The oranges are starting to decay and damage their containers, the flooring, even the foundation.
Eventually person B has to pay someone to come and take the oranges away.
You are person A in this situation. The above commenter is the person/s that person B pays.
Bro is playing Sims in real life what the heck
I love your outside. Personally not keen on the choices inside but this is a beautiful home nevertheless…
I agree. It's beautiful and I'd love to live there, but it's about as personal as a hotel lobby.
Agree with your sentiment. I feel like in 20 years we are going to look back and scratch our heads as to why we collectively decided as a society that sterile, colorless, and impersonal was the ultimate look for a house.
I recently saw a meme where some millennials like simplistic design & clean interiors due to the horrendous pattern & choices of living in an 80’s & 90’s home… all trends are cyclical
I can smell this guy's bank account through my phone screen
Finance, trust fund
He called us poor in 14 different ways
Hi Dad, it's me your son
Dude this is a family home. I just want to se my brothers make a closet to a farlie land.
How much in total?
Looking like 1.2 in a sub prime market, and up to 4/5 in a prime market
An older post of him detailing the price:
https://www.reddit.com/r/malelivingspace/comments/19aj92h/comment/kiltuoa/
Land $160k (which was a steal in our area for over an acre) Total cost of build $940,000 Hardscaping/landscaping $100,000
So all in around $1.2M
Dang that isn't bad. House like that on the land I am on right now would easily be 4 or 5 mil
That is a swing and a half right there.
Dust
"It's free real estate"
shit i never though of the dusting…best have a maid.
Slumming it. I feel for you bro
This is my desired aesthetic. Love this.
Thanks. Seems we are in the minority, but we love it ❤️
tech bro?
Nah, corporate retail & pharmacist
Bro what prompt did you use for these images?
What is corporate retail? Also, DINKs?
Bragopolis
What’s the layout look like? Did you design yourself or modified an existing plan??
We found a design we liked from a Seattle based company, and adjusted as necessary. Probably 75% similar to the original plan.
Man, being rich must feel great
You must be an architect? 🤔
As an architect who designs houses of similar cost, no, we generally don’t make near enough to build something like this for ourselves.
So ballpark cost?
i certainly hope not, looking at the design of it
Bro i rarely feel envy, but you got me good there. Incredible space you got!
Both inside and out hits the nail on the head for my taste.
The PC area is the only critique i'd have.
Not a fan tbh. Hope you like it.
this genuinely looks like every 3D render of architecture/room/furniture ive ever seen haha
Understand that sentiment. We like minimal, and muted color tones. Understand it can come off as cold, but we adore it.
Alright geo-guessers do your thing
/s
Well done mate
I can’t tell if the room in the kitchen is orange paint or a light on a white wall. Hoping it’s the random orange because for some reason that really makes everything pop
I love the office. Dislike the TV in the bedroom. :)
The place looks amazing. Well done.
It’s giving moody Frank Lloyd Wright.
That wine out like that is gonna be a problem
Gotta get you a better selection of wine. Beautiful home though!!
Glad it’s almost complete! Did the walk-in closet by the ensuite ever get flooring and closet installs?
I also like the stone for the kitchen counter. It looks very kitchen-friendly. Not sure if the wire fence is something you can change, but it will definitely enhance the look of the Japanese-inspired dry garden. Right now it’s reading a bit Alabama meets Tokyo, if you know what I mean.
I guess you don't drink
Wow man… This is special.
Love it, absolutely beautiful. My one gripe- if you’re going to display wine, get something better than 10+ bottles of Kim Crawford.
FU. Congrats. What do you do?
Tell me you don’t have taste without telling me you don’t have taste
Very nice.
No matter how you dice it, it's an enormous amount of work to do this kind of stuff. Even if you're not building things yourself, the design choices and managing of work is exhausting. Congratulations.
I'm not a huge fan of how dark the exterior is (it does look somewhat like the stereotypical 'male' choice of greys and blacks). I think the layout is nice.
This is #child-free, lol. Enjoy it.
Can I ask about the exterior deckwork? What kind of material is that, and are you happy with it?
what is happening w those trees and bushes? why is the mulch covering the root collar? the root collar needs to be exposed
Absolutely incredible!!
What was the process of building this like? How much did it cost you overall? I’m interested in doing something similar in the coming years
Thanks! So it’s been posted in a few comments now, but land was a steal at $160k. Long story but most desirable property in our area is $275-350k. All in including landscaping right now is $1.25ish I’d say. We went into the process wanting to stay south of $1m but … that just never happens. A lot of frustrations but I am very particular in my choices, rather than letting the builders design team lead the choices. Utilities were a real pain in the ass on a flag lot like we have with a natural creek & pond. Had we connected to city utilities we would have been upwards of $150k! But we pivoted to well, septic & in ground propane to get back to budget of around $45k. Good luck if you pursue it! I won’t do it again unless it’s a very small house on a great piece property in the mountains haha
wtf is that gaming chair
Gorgeous!!
You have a beautiful home
This looks like my dream home
Oh my lawd that’s an amazing house
Dope AF OP
Stunning!
So ur like rich rich?
how much more validation does a person need? isn’t the house enough?
“do you guys like it”
thats siiiiick dude
Congrats my dude. Peak aesthetic
Looks amazing. I like the shelves in front of the windows in the kitchen. It’s cool but I would of opted for one large window to let light in.
Absolutely stunning. Quite jelly :D
Dream home
Okkkkkkaaaayyyyy!! Im seriously loving your chairs. I love that the look like art but also look quite comfy. I looovvveeee the tub and layout of the bath!! Also your lighting fixtures…delicious!!! Definitely the bar chairs…legit art! Grounds are stunning love the layers. Kudos!!! Enjoy!!! 🤩
The bathroom tile is fucking magnificent . god damn that’s nice.
Kim possibles house
Congrats!
Pretty cool
Starting my own custom build shortly. May I ask how much this was per sqft?
Bro is on a different tax code than the rest of us
God damn I feel poor.
