I was at Canadian tire across town checking out with a cart full of groceries from another store and some awkward/heavy items that didn’t fit in the cart. An item approximately 50.00 was wedged between my bags and I didn’t notice i hadn’t scanned it until I got home. I’ve heard horror stories about them sending police to your house etc based on your credit card info and checkout footage. How likely is this? I can’t go back today because I’m all the way across town without a car and I’m wondering if that will just make things worse.

I normally don’t make mistakes like this (I have a govt job in law) but I’m a space cadet right now as my mom recently died and I’m off work and not really sleeping all that much.
