But sometimes there’s a man, and I’m talking about The Dude here. Sometimes there’s a man, well, he’s the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that’s The Dude.

This reminds me. I had some high thoughts last night. About the dude. He’s the only decent character in the movie. All he wants is his rug back. But then he’s used by Maude, TBL, Brandt, Walter, Jackie, and whoever stole his car. I mean not used, more like abused. But he’s the dude, taking it easy for all them sinners. He’s not a hero, maybe closer to a martyr because he does take a ton of abuse. And without him the whole darn situation would fall apart. The characters needed the dude to get the things they wanted and to save themselves from themselves. And so he’s a hero but not for doing anything. Just for taking it easy. Ah hell…
Yeah? Well, you know, that’s just like uhh, your opinion man. Seriously though, you’re not wrong. As a protagonist, Dude barely has any say in what happens as he reluctantly gets forced into the role of film noir detective, but set in the early 90’s. If he weren’t in the running for laziest man worldwide, we might not have the greatest film ever made.
Gotta say, Donny really doesn't have ulterior motives. He's benign.
Donny was a good bowler, and a good man. He was one of us. He was a man who loved the outdoors... and bowling, and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and... up to... Pismo. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, Lord, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at Khe Sanh, at Langdok, at Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. And so would Donny. Donny, who loved bowling. And so, Theodore Donald Karabotsos, in accordance with what we think your dying wishes might well have been, we commit your final mortal remains to the bosom of the Pacific Ocean, which you loved so well. Good night, sweet prince.
Everything's a fucking travesty with you man!
I’m sorry, it was an accident!
Dude
....ah heck,.I lost my train of thought...
Is that what this is a picture of?
The Dude abides
What is this? I need it.

Hey, careful man. There's a beverage here.
I can't say I've seen London, and I ain't never been to France. And I ain't never seen no queen in her damned undies
