I know people here like to spread positivity about getting into great schools with low stats but tbh they are not addressing the elephant in the room which is how much aid they are getting, if any at all. I just don’t like the fact that people are spreading false positivity to prospective applicants. What do you guys think?
An A from a T14 without any aid is meaningless
GeneralDo you really "live like a king"? The way people act about nyc makes it sound like big law salary is a peasant in new york
How much do you work per week?
260k two years out of law school. Within 5 years, what do you suppose you'll be at?
Some might say that a legal education from a T14 is worth it even at sticker price.
This is true. Lawyers’ salaries in the US are bimodal — between 60-80K, and above 215K
One of the major distinguishing factors here is BigLaw/ Federal Clerkships (and the relative exit opportunities)
And one of the major determinants of access to that upper level is attending a T-14 school
I agree that we shouldn’t blindly accept T14 in every instance, but saying that an Acceptance to a T14 without aid is MEANINGLESS—that is not true
Exactly, the T14 opens opportunities for students that are simply unavailable to the wide majority of students outside of the T14 — especially in terms of earnings.
Strong disagree, if it’s HLS the doors of opportunities within big law provide a stepping stone to pay off that debt. Not to mention career trajectory of going to atleast any T14. Same analogy can be stated about top business schools.
A suggestion:
"Information about an A from a T14 can be helpfully supplemented/contextualized with information about aid."
^ this. Great suggestion.
mommy and daddy are paying my tuition, fittingly on the condition that it's a t14 school
real
You are being too simplistic in your assessment. You are not considering Loan Repayment Assistance https://www.americanbar.org/groups/center-pro-bono/resources/directory_of_law_school_public_interest_pro_bono_programs/definitions/pi_lrap/ for those going into public sector jobs or big law salaries for those going in that direction. The T14 gravitas is enormous in many areas of law, including big law, courtships, and political areas. And some have the money...and can afford a T14 at sticker price. It is a personal decision.
