I was debating the other night whether or not to do F**k Shit Stack but decided not to not knowing if it's an ok song for karaoke.
What's the craziest song you've heard done or did yourself? Are there any off limit songs?
Nonsense. As a 70 YO man myself, I have no problem singing anything. Anything by the Spice Girls, any songs by the Knack, etc. Never let age hold you back from anything. It's bad enough others engage in ageism. Don't self censor yourself.
From that list how did you get the impression that I censor myself?
As a fat 67 year old guy some things just should not come out of my mouth,
Perhaps Reddit could use some irony or sarcasm tags.
Sid Vicious My Way is okay until you come to the homosexual slurs part. I would sing it more often if it weren't for that.
As a KJ, we’re not the morality police. We’re there to provide entertainment and keep the crowd drinking. If you want to sing it, sing it. And own it, because there’s nothing more awkward than somebody hesitantly performing a super raunchy song. Generous crowds may encourage you to get into it, but usually you will be met with weird looks and little reaction if you show embarrassment while performing something like At a Medium Pace or any of the other super raunchy classics.
Personally on the crazier side, I love performing Steel Panther for certain crowds. 17 Girls in a Row and Death to All But Metal are my two go-to’s, but those songs aren’t for everyone. My sweet spot is very high in my register and my natural timbre is quite bright.
One of the regulars at my local karaoke bar does a great rendition of Glory Hole by Steel Panther as one of his go-to songs. Definitely a good time!
I won't sings that glorify abuse. For instance, I'd never sing Kim by Eminem. Stan isn't an issue though - there's no glorification there.
As for crude songs - just last night I sang "I Glued My Balls To My Butthole Again", I've done "At A Medium Pace" in the past, and I've requested Karafun get Blink 182's "Fuck A Dog". You really need to get the crowd read right though. Usually I find you get better responses to less over the top songs, like Alestorm's "Fucked With An Anchor" that dial up the crudeness to 7 rather than all the way to 11.
I once scatted my way through Edgar Winter's Frankenstein.
I was about to ask how you found a host with a lyrics track for that one... :D
As the person who made the Fuck Shit Stack karaoke video on my Funbox Karaoke channel... do it. As long as the show isn't hosted by prudes that'll kick you out, the whole point of karaoke is to express yourself.
Thanks for making that track, /u/Turkeyslam ---I've sung it to crowds more than once!
Songs I’ve retired except for private rooms or at home would be a chocolate salty balls and dynamite hack’s cover of boyz n the hood. Not totally off limits but only for very select crowds whereas I might be tempted to drop courtesy of the red white and blue on an unsuspecting crowd for shits and giggles.
Me and my buddies did almost half of the Steel Panther Album "Feel the Steel" Including the songs, Community Property, Girl From Oklahoma, Stripper Girl, and Fat Girl. You just have to read the room. How cool do the people look around you?
I myself like to sing Weenie Ride, but preferably at a place where people can see the lyrics
Benny Hill: Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West) - did it myself and it was well received by a much older crowd - https://youtu.be/8e1xvyTdBZI
I would like to make sure the person/entity paying me for the night is okay with certain songs. On the DJ side, the venue asked me to refrain from playing the Rodeo song for too many F bombs in it even though it was a song request by a patron. As far as karaoke, I have performed Madonna's Hanky Panky, but it wasn't one the audience really cared for. If I sang, Like A Virgin or Divinyls "I touch myself," then the crowd goes wild. Top 40 popularity probably goes a long way with general acceptance. Watch out for excessive profanity in a song, and read the room to know which songs seem to flop.
I love anything by Wheeler Walker Jr, She’s a Country Music Fan always gets a good response
Show them to me by Rodney Carrington. It even worked a couple times.
Off limit songs depends 100% on the place. I've been at places that don't allow swearing at all and others where anything goes. When in doubt, ask your KJ before you put the song in.
Weird Al Yankovich's "The Saga Begins." 'Nuf said.
My favorite thing to sing is Dick in a box by lonely island. It didn’t age well and now that I’m older it’s less funny and frowned upon lol
Norman fucking Rowell by Lana del Rey the first couple lines get a laugh from the audience the rest of the song is pretty normal though
I heard an 8-year-old sing Captain Jack by Billy Joel.
I've done "The Loophole" by Garfunkel and Oats that was probably the craziest, "Fuck her Gently" Tenacious D, "People=Shit" and"Down with the Sickness" both Richard Cheese covers, and"Bad Touch" Bloodhound Gang. Nothing is off limits.
I sang Down with The Sickness by Richard Cheese a few weeks ago.
Heard someone do this once: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BpVkOsOE02Y&pp=ygUfdHdvIHRydWNrcyBoYXZpbmcgc2VnZ3Mga2FyYW9rZQ%3D%3D
I can do Take On Me by A-ha.
Off limits songs are any songs with any fast rapping.
In Polish convention Final Showdown by Tenacious D is quite popular, or at least used to be
As a non-crude crazy song: I occasionally have a go at Ylvis' The Fox

I did pen pineapple apple pen. Even learned and did the dance. It was a 1 time only performance but i still get asked to do it 6 years later. Sing over 500 and learning all the time. Doing let it go for the first yime tomorrow.
Tried to do Prince's When Doves Cry once. I forgot about the screaming parts (and other songs like it from Purple Rain). I love that album so much though.
I just don't like country songs. I don't mind other people singing it and it some sounds like a lot of fun for the crowd but it just isn't for me.
Haha, I've sung Fuck Shit Stack at my own karaoke night and at someone else's.
I used to love singing Indian Reservation by Paul Revere and the Raiders but I don't anymore because, while it's still a great song, it's not my song to sing.
I do Cee lo Green's "F You", but often say "forget". And I mostly retired R Kelly stuff because it gets weird stares from the younger set (they tend to think its wrong to separate the artists' behavior from the art). I mean do we really expect people who live rock and roll to not have criminal behavior?
R Kelly crossed the acceptable criminal behavior line. He wasn’t dropping a little acid and singing about swaying trees and shit.
I'm not saying ANY level of criminal behavior is actually acceptable. All of it is stupid and reprehensible. I don't care if its trashing hotel rooms or entertaining 15 year old groupies. But almost all of them with power did it. Aerosmith, Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Who, Ozzy, Unless it was The Osmond or Jonas Brothers, about 70% of the Top 100 of the last half century would have to be canceled if illegal behavior by the artist was the yardstick. I just can't do it.The song is not the singer. And we don't do that for any other industry except entertainment. The guy who wired your house could hold down your 13 year old niece and make her perform oral. How many people would start ripping out their wiring in their walls because he's a horrible person who deserves to be put under a jail? Its just weird to me.
We generally feel there is more connection between an artist and their art than an electrician and his wiring. Especially if the art includes such hits as “age ain’t nothing but a number” and the artist is a convicted sex offender.
As one of the 30 million people that danced and sang along to "Age ain't Nothing But a Number " when it was hot, you are proving my exact point that the song is separate from the singer. I sang along with that record, eyes closed and swaying because it spoke to a sentiment that I as a human being could relate to - a feeling MOST of us can relate to at some point in our lives and yet I'm an ordinary guy. I'm not a member of the Man/Boy Love Association or a guy over 30 trying to marry a 16 year old, but that piece of art spoke to the human condition we all have experienced. Why does that meaning change for ME just because Mr. Kelly probably had a different motivation for actually WHY he was saying what he said. Seems we as a people would have more of a problem with an actual "patriotic" song like the "Star Spangled Banner" which was written as a fever dream about America killing enough slaves that their blood would wash away the British invaders. Francis Scott Key and his song were so racist that it couldn't even get approved as the national anthem at first, even though slavery was still legal. Oh no...instead let's focus on songs people actually like and that were relatable because the guy who wrote them was the worse kind of person who was thinking horrible things when he wrote them. That makes waaaaaay more sense.
There's a radio version called Forget You
As a fat 67 year old guy some things just should not come out of my mouth, yet here they go:
Spice Girls: Wannabe
Gayle: ABCDEFU
Sid Vicious: My Way (dedicated to bad karaoke singers)
Gwen Stefani: Hollaback Girl
I get a request to sing that last one nearly every week.
