The builtins have been this creamy colour ever since they were installed last summer and I never once felt they looked too yellow. I was so certain I’d like the colour on all the walls, swatched them all, etc. And now that it’s everywhere in the room I’m having major second thoughts. The painters are coming back this week to paint this colour in our front entrance and all hallways. I’m thinking about pausing that work to choose another colour.

Why is this reading so yellow? Is it because of the wood trim and the cooler tones in the textiles? Is there any point in trying to live with it if I’m having such a strong reaction all of a sudden? I was imagining a soft warm white but… not this. It’s like a stick of butter!

The room is south facing and was originally BM chantilly lace but that was too white. The dining room will be painted either SW Natural Tan or BM Nantucket Gray. The white fireplace won’t be staying white - it will be stripped down to a mystery stone or painted again to better match the final wall colour if that doesn’t work out.

FYI this is a custom colour that was matched from a picture frame mat that I always loved. It was hanging on my chantilly lace white walls and as I was getting sick of the stark white walls, I would always find myself looking at the mat and thinking - now that’s cozier! Maybe that was my first mistake lol
