Isn’t it more economical to travel on ORR, better mileage, better road conditions? Do people love to watch daily life around the city rather than travel pollution free on a Freeway 🛣️?
Why do people prefer to be go through traffic for 90 minutes to travel 35 Kms when they can reach on ORR in 45 minutes but have to travel 20 Kms more, 55 Kms?
AskHyderabadDefinitely not viable to people that need travel daily to work. Either way isn’t your car gonna wear out if you travel in the City more often? I live in US & haven’t been to India in 5 years until last month. Don’t know the economics. In US they usually say avoid traffic for better performance & value for your car.

Marendhuku bhaiyya taka taka postlu pedthunnav. oka 5 mins alochisthe aipoyedhi ga
Oh they say that in the US? then it must be true hur....
you get 14 in the city? in this bumper to bumper traffic? what car do you drive brother?
kiger. Not bumper to bumper traffic. Traffic where we can maintain around 20-30kmph
20 to 30kph is not traffic brother.
still great mileage
Why aren't people Carpooling? I was in Hyd back in Dec'2022 and that L&T metro seemed to have already saturated in capacity so, that's that! No amount of public transport is good in Hyd.
timings 😓
If there's one thing that is better in other countries, I think it is time management and as Indians we suck at it! (Including my past self) I still suck at it. My manager props up at 7:30am in the morning but that's only because she's possessed by a demon! I can't wake up that early so I try to be there by 8 ish at least!
When I travel on 35km way per days it's 181rs based on my bike milage Where as for 55km it's 286rs
Per month 35km 3982rs But for 55km it's 6292rs
Bike anyway not allowed on ORR 🥲
Is the time to reach the office the same?
Service road ?
You can't go fast on service road since the quality is quite bad, might as well go through city in that case.
Why do people sit in car in horrible traffic when you can take a bus and sleep for 1hr up and down?
Says a person who hasn’t traveled in Hyderabad by bus himself. If you would have travelled you would know the experience.
I've been traveling daily by RTC bus since 2014 😊
The experience has gotten really bad especially since 2020. But still far better than driving myself in my experience.
2014-2016 was a golden age for our city for bus travel. Then focus shifted to metro and our city has been in trouble ever since.
I have travelled by bus from 2001-2009. Occasionally even today. I also use 2 wheeler and now 4 wheeler on daily basis. I am not biased to any mode of travel being the best. The last mile travel is the biggest challenge and Buses and metro don’t solve that.

That's definitely true. I'm an able bodied fit male so last mile is not an issue since I can walk, but I completely understand it's not realistic for everyone. I wouldn't let my sister walk at night. When it rains it becomes even more treacherous since we don't have concepts like footpath etc.
How can you predict traffic
Your Apple Maps tells you Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), if there is a red line that means Heavy Traffic. Usually Estimated Time of Arrival is 15-25 minutes longer than the one on Apple/Google Maps if you are going through heavy traffic. I live in USA & came home for the summer, traffic & ETA is the same everywhere.
Still apple or google maps never suggested me to take orr, i travel from secbad to gachibowli some times, when peak time and non peak time, it always suggested me interval roads. I also live usa, i am visiting hyd frequently now. I am used to freeways. Some how the internal roads are efficient.
There’s no point in using orr from Secunderabad to Gachibowli it’s too impractical
Yeah they are good if you travel in the odd hours of the day, early morning between 6-8 & late night after 10 pm. Maybe it was elections time, the traffic was too much for me & I got tired at the end of the the ride.
I started taking cabs for the same reason. 3–6$ is nothing for the peace of mind. Unless you are going every day.
Exactly, I mostly take Uber within the City. Unless I’m travelling for some wedding or party on the City outskirts. No need to worry about Parking or getting towed.
9 out of 10 times google maps ETA is correct and accounts for heavy traffic. Google maps is inaccurate only in case of unexpected situations like rain, festivals, political events, accidents etc.
Bro using US gasoline Prices to Indian Roads
Money spent towards fuel consumption and even if you travel via ORR, part of that additional 20 kms will be probably through heavy traffic somewhere. Not to forget toll charges at the ORR.
Just take the metro/mmts and take a rapido/auto/cab from metro station to destination it’s way faster that way
nope., if you're coming from Hayathnagar, driving or metro, takes equal time, however metro is less stress compared to driving.,
Not everyone lives that far from their work places. And not everyone in traffic is going to work.
I go to Ghatkesar regularly from Jubilee Hills and I always take the ORR.
It takes the same time, perhaps a little bit more fuel, for sure more in tolls but peace of mind is there.
Perhaps this will change when the Uppal flyover gets done but seems like it's not gonna happen anytime soon.
You get best mileage if you drive at 75kmph…anything beyond that is still not economical….given that even if u catch orr, you still have to get off it at x location and then drive through same traffic to reach another point within city it doesn’t really makes sense….also from one point to another, if distance is more, orr toll will be expensive…
Was talking about locations that are 2-3 kms when you get off ORR. Last week we were coming back from a wedding, planned to go to Forum Mall. I told my friend I’ll take ORR, we can reach faster, comfortable ride. He said, it’s 20 Kms longer, let’s go through City. It was evening time. Bumpy Roads, Road Work, Traffic that doesn’t follow any rules, so traffic jam & it took us a good 2 hours to reach.
Coming to Mileage, I’m pretty sure that 20 kms stretch(20 kms of the 35 through City) through heavy traffic, my car wasn’t even giving 5-7 Kmpl mileage. It’s gonna even out at the end of the ride if you gonna travel on ORR where your Car gives you 20 kmpl Mileage at worst.
Your friend seems dumb…but most people who travel from say Gachibowli, FD to places like Tarnaka find it easy to travel in traffic than orr…in some cases my friends found going from Madhapur to Nagole easy by ORR…but only because there was no traffic from their place to Nagole orr entry…
I started looking for houses around ORR exits even they are 1hr away from Gachibowli or FD. The only calculation seems economical is get an EV and get solar panels installed on roof top. Then only travelling through ORR is viable.
For people living closer to center of the city it doesn't make any sense
Money
4 wheeler fuel + ORR toll
I see your point of using ORR like a free way, honestly better for car but I don’t think our commute is there yet; people avoid it unless needed.
I think the best these days are the AC Uber Shuttles. Kinda cheap and hassle free in my opinion. You’ve a nice comfortable seat for yourself and off you go
55 KMs on ORR means approximately 150 Rs of toll for round trip.
People who travel on the daily may not be willing to pay that much every month.
no one that is just working is living 35 kms far away max to max 20 is plausible i think
Hyd is a big city. This should be enough. Using ORR depends on the locations.
It takes me around 1hr 10 minutes to reach my destination in Financial district from ORR. It takes me around 1hr 4 minutes when I come from inner ring road (normal traffic conditions).
I usually take the ORR (75km). It takes me around 1hr10 mins to reach my office in the financial district. While it can take upto 2hrs if I go through the city (30km).
Uber is launching buses in Delhi, soon in Hyderabad
Ola will do the same with pass to connect to autos for last mile soon.
This will be the real deal
I travel by city roads and take ORR only under special circumstances but I fit the profile. Calculating costs my car gives 14km in the city and 19-20 on ORR. I travel 33 km inside City whereas it takes 55 km from ORR. For one way trip costs are From city roads : 280rs ( 1hr 5 min) mornings From ORR: 320 + 100= 420 ( 1 hr)
How is it beneficial if I have to spend 140*2 = 280 rs daily extra to travel on ORR. May be if they have some pass concept it would be beneficial or else no.
