[Wyshynski] "We'll see everybody next year, at a site and location to be determined." -- NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly at the end of the 2024 NHL Draft đź‘€
I agree 100%, especially if they’re going to decentralize it. Would make a great central hub

Santa is the next NHL commissioner.
and anyone present who goes undrafted gets put in a hot air balloon and set adrift in the skies
The should build a high speed monorail that hits all the NHL cities and do a mobile draft!
Combined with the giant screen of Sphere, that would be a Hunger Games vibe right there.
Let's get Elizabeth Banks to announce the draft lottery
Then the odds will.truly be in their favor
MONO—D'OH!
Next stop: North Haverbrook Hockey Club
I'm super high and this is the best comment ever
I love this
The total straight line flight distance from Montreal, Canada to Las Vegas, NV is 2,244 miles. This is equivalent to 3 612 kilometers or 1,950 nautical miles.
Hmm
if they’re going to decentralize it. Would make a great central hub
Then the rangers could never trade any first round picks to protect James Dolan's fragile ego, Im all for it
I mean it's not like trading our firsts has brought great success
Lore?
Supposedly Dolan wouldnt let the Rangers trade their first round pick this past season because he owns the sphere and wanted to have the rangers to make a first round selection in his venue
I imagine in time the sphere is going to become a very difficult venue to book.
Could also be possible that the sphere has interest in running some things annualy, they might habe better options short term. But it could help long term staying relevant.
Yea having an anchor of sorts in a regular yearly rental is a lot more valuable to lock in than a higher paying single event.
True. I imagine for a venue like that, laying out some tables and chairs will be by far the easiest set up versus the other acts that will go through there
It’s also owned by Madison Square Garden so maybe it won’t be as bad as it seems to be difficult to book.
If they did this again next year I'd make sure to buy tickets for both days. Shut up and take my money, NHL.
More celebs and NHL legend appearances, less teams wasting time congratulating everyone for everything, please.
Combine ALL the drafts, from the 4 major sports, into one mega draft night.
With the 14th pick in the NHL draft, the 8th pick in the NFL draft and 1st overall in the MLB draft Tampa Bay would like to select…
Imagine the infighting this would cause
But they have to pick the same guy, so he’s gotta juggle four sports.
I didn't even watch the fucken thing, but from what's been posted on reddit: yes please.
Can't say I care about the celebs though, but if that's what the league need to speed this thing up then I'll accept it.
It’s a respect thing, I love the teams congratulating everyone. You should too
No, i dont think i will
they can do that away from the mic
It's a little hollow of a congratulations when it's a requirement
It's gonna be at Mullett
Confirmed next draft is at Guantanamo Bay Prison
I only watched a little bit of the draft, but it felt like the pacing was way better than years previous. Draft pick, a couple interviews, rinse and repeat.
The Sphere was also a great venue to hold it. It is nice when they go to different cities to generate a bit of buzz, but if they kept in Vegas I certainly wouldn't complain
Red Rocks 2025!!!!
That would actually be an unreal venue to hold it
I’d love to see them do cool places like the Sphere and Red Rocks instead of just a random arena
Red Rocks is a public park with unpredictable weather. And it's quite small compared to other venues. And they have very little flat space
It’s a little small, yes, but let’s not act like we are selling 20,000 tickets for the draft. Also, it has more than enough flat space.
The stage is the only flat area along with the concession area all the way up top. They would only be able to fit a handful of teams in there. It's not that big of a stage. There's basically no electrical infrastructure going up into the crowd. The seats are all concrete benches. It only seats 9,000 and that's with squeezing people in on those benches.
If the draft is becoming decentralized, like the NHL said, it doesn’t matter about fitting teams up there. Once again, seating doesn’t matter because it’s going to be players and their families, and then fans will fill out the rest. I think it’s a perfectly fine venue
I'm sure hundreds of draft picks and their families are going to have a great time sitting on concrete benches for hours on end while it goes on. As well as hundreds of members of the media, especially when their laptops and phones run out of battery because the seating area has no electricity. Then it would be really fun when a random rain storm and/or wind storm comes through, which is an almost daily occurrence in the foothills of Denver in June. Hundreds of people went to the ER almost exactly a year ago because of a heavy hailstorm hitting the venue last year during a show. It's a terrible venue for it.
Please do it at the Sphere forever. Please and thank you.
So it’s not gonna be over a call? If so that’s great. Love watching the draft being this huge event.
The nfl draft is still a huge event and it’s done from each team’s facility.
The NFL draft basically does everything wrong but still is a good event because football is so deep with positions and the NFL is naturally super popular.
What’s wrong about the NFL draft?
The commissioner announcing most of the picks is a joke, the players get told about the pick before the announcement anyways, the team personell aren't there, and half the players aren't there. They also make the teams wait out the clock, while at least with the NHL you get to watch the teams slowly getting ready to go on stage.
I don't think waiting out the clock is forced, teams just do it either to troll, or out of principle. Watch when the Lions pick under the Brad Holmes front office - they never run out the clock. They pick right away.
Goodell only announces some of the first round picks. The last couple rounds are typically fans and stuff.
I’m fine with the players getting told ahead of time.
I guess I just don’t really care if team personnel is there or not.
I think the nhl tells teams to wait out the clock. The first 4 picks waited until the clock was going to run out before walking up there. Especially the sharks. That one took forever.
I think it may be a difference of opinion. I get it’s supposed to be a spectacle and they need their tv time and to fill the space with commentators etc. I just wish they could make the pick and move on lol no reason for that first round to be 4 hours yesterday
I wonder if they wait out the clock to see if they get any absolutely ridiculous offers. Maybe someone’s willing to trade a top liner for the first overall pick….
Yeah not knowing anything about the drafting and watching Draft Day was interesting
Like sync'd clocks and they just sit in their own building while people watch from home.
I think it would be like the NFL draft where the teams themselves don't send their staff to the draft, but the prospects and fans would still be there.
Come to think of it, I think that's how MLB and the NBA do it as well.

The players will likely still be there. Like the NFL draft. Just not team reps. They’re at their own facilities and call their picks in to the NHL then the NHL announces it
It should always be on location somewhere....a virtual draft is the dumbest idea ever....keep it this way! ( And bring it to Denver)
If it came to Denver I’m getting tickets as soon as they drop
Love the Vegas draft, and I bet all the teams did too. Not many other places have that many direct domestic flights + tons of hotel capacity.
This was the best draft ever IMO, continue it at the Sphere next year.
Gary Bettman’s house
Announcements made from his front porch and all GMs and execs sitting on lawn chairs on his yard
Needs the fans to boo him
Keep the small stage so teams can't bring up 30 people for every pick in the first round.
Yo how come they do outdoor NHL games now but they don't do no outdoor NHL drafts?
Didn’t they say they aren’t doing anymore drafts like this where all teams are at one venue? I hope this is them already going back on that terrible idea
I desperately hope so. I've always wanted to attend one but this year and last just didn't work out with scheduling.
I’m regretting not getting tickets to this draft at the Sphere, this draft has been one of the best NHL events in a long time
I'm a smidge glad I didn't because I'm pretty sure I did a solid impression of the Kotkaniemi Habs fan when the Ducks announced Sennecke.
Yeah… I wasn’t too sure on that pick for you guys. I feel like any of Dickinson, Buium or Parekh would have been much better of a pick
They did, and this is probably Daly saying they'll be back at the sphere without actually saying so. Seems like it's been a huge success, would be dumb not doing it again.
That’d be terrific
It’ll be like the NFL, NBA, and MLB drafts going forward
It surprises me teams don’t want to be in person. Wouldn’t it be easier to complete deals and meet with agents in person?
It would but it's also expensive to fly everybody there
Not just fly there, but put them up in hotels and travel in general.
There's a group of GMs that believe having everyone in one spot makes it easier and more likely that teams will spy on each other. I kinda see that but everyone is probably too busy focusing on their own draft/offseason that they arent spying.
Good. I don't know how many actually show up, but I love seeing the players there get to hear their name called. It's a big day for those guys, and it would suck to take that away from the players who are not the top prospects
The sphere was so good they’re just gonna do it every year here. How can you not
Winnipeg has been promised a draft but the hotels they’re building aren’t ready yet. Maybe that’s why it’s TBD
Dallas owner fucking the Jets :D
Quebec City
Whoever finishes last overall should have to host the following year’s draft.
Next draft location is Robidas Island
The Moon. Brought to you by Bet365
This was the best draft I’ve watched. The pacing was awesome. Team “blank” you are on the clock, team makes pick within 2min, player walks up, quick interview after, repeat. The special guests and alumni making picks were a nice touch.
Atlanta’s up next.
They should just do it at the sphere every year, the visuals were so cool.
