They are, I think that's the problem haha. Dude needs to get out and take a hike. Get a hobby. Quit cruising the interwebs for ppl half their age
Freaky ass streamers need to take they ass outside
Hey hey hey hey run for yo life
Hey hey hey hey prison for life
He a 69 god
Love all the armchair legal experts in this thread lol
And in the doc disrespect subreddit. The copium over there is ridiculous.
Fr I saw people saying maybe the minor was just a juicy 17 year old instead of a 12 year old???
Actually insane.
That’s so disgusting. Because let’s be real, if that was the case he absolutely would have said it because he knows most of his brain dead fans could explain that away. The fact he didn’t say her age to try to exculpate himself makes me think it’s closer to 12 than 17.
Yeah, um, you can't NDA illegal activity.......
That's not necessarily true. In a straight forward sense, yes you're correct. However, in this situation twitch hasn't committed any crimes, so the guy would be breaking the nda to out crimes committed by other people on the platform, which would likely hurt twitches Financials. So while yes, they could leak info on, say, Dr disrespect, and HE couldn't sue them (if a crime was committed), twitch might still be able to.
Also, it's not entirely clear that crimes were committed. Something can be morally abhorrent without technically being illegal. For example, grooming in and of itself is not a crime. You can talk to minors as much as you want, and I'm pretty sure you can also be "inappropriate" with minors over text without getting in any legal trouble, maybe a restraining order at most. That doesn't mean it's legally a crime, and it also doesn't constitute enough to break an NDA (depending on your lawyers lol)
Child endangerment is a broad spectrum crime Twitch would probably be guilty of (as well as anyone inappropriately dming minors) if they were, in fact, not taking appropriate legal actions to protect minors on their website and knowingly burying evidence to save face.
Grooming can be a crime. It’s called corruption of a minor, but it depends on the facts of the case.
It's not just that, it's also that these NDAs have a chilling effect. Just the threat of losing your job or having to defend yourself in court is intimidating, even if you know you're right and you know, in the end, that you being fired, or sued, would have been wrong or illegal.
Even the federal government has pursued retaliation against whistleblowers who only spoke out about the illegal things it was doing.
Very true
Someone call Julian Assange. I hear he’s got some new availabilities… 😏
TWITCHILEAKS
Very well said 👏
Honestly just wondering. What 'good' could possibly ever come from a mid-thirties man in a wig and fake bullet proof vest talking to a teenager through private messages?
Is he gonna mentor her? Make her a better person? Teach her fiscal responsibility? Would it be any different if they did all this frequently, in person?
Can we just like, let teens hang out with other teens? And not try to build a world where mid thirties with a wife and child can hang out with teens because TEEECCCHHHNIIIKALLY it's not illegal? Can we just draw a line instead of skimming laws that give us confirmation bias?
I agree with you lol. I'm just replying to the dude specifically about the legal side of this. I even pointed out multiple times that it's morally abhorrent.
And not try to build a world where mid thirties with a wife and child can hang out with teens because TEEECCCHHHNIIIKALLY it's not illegal?
This isn't happening anywhere and definitely not what OC explicitly or implicitly said.
She could be asking for tips on becoming a streamer. There exist possible conversations that can be totally harmless.
He definitely isn’t helping himself with the “I didn’t do anything illegal, just inappropriate” thing and it’s letting peoples minds really wander. Honestly he should just post the logs if he wants to keep addressing it and make it clear what actually happened. I’m getting tired of this hearsay.
Lewd and lascivious texts with a child is illegal.
But isn't Twitch committing a crime by not reporting or stopping the crime the twitch streamers are committing? After all if they have access to the whispers, they had to have a reason to establish access to them.
No, they are not. If that was the case, all social media would be shut done for facilitating criminal activity. Also, the NSA could be help liable for any crimes that they don't stop lol. There's actually very few situations where a person/ company is legally obligated to stop crime that they themselves are not committing.
He says he reported stuff so I am thinking what they did on twitch was very damning and obvious, but didn't cross the line until off twitch? Idk how else these garbage humans are free.
That’s what NDAs are made for /s
Twitch should get rid of their whispers tool. It’s pointless and just gives pedos direct access to dming and talking to kids on the platform.
tbf its not like it will stop. It will just happen on another platform like instagram or whatever
Not wrong but giving them direct access through their own platform is even worse.
Get rid of Instagram DMs while you're at it. Ya know what, iMessage too. Let's go back to carrier pigeons.
Yeah this is similar to the VPN problem. Are VPN's bad because they enable human trafficking? Twitch whispers isn't really the problem.
Where's the PROOOOOOF please god drop some receipts
he said he signed an NDA lol so no proof will ever come out
I dont think a NDA means diddly when it's used to cover up crimes.
The NDA is to stop him from discussing things that were handled by moderation and staff behind the scenes. It is valid unfortunately.
It certainly does not, although it’s not illegal to talk to minors on the internet. In any case, if they see crimes happening, they have a duty to report it to the authorities. If they don’t, they’re culpable.
There’s just no point in being overly upset about this until there is proof. I don’t even understand why someone would “whistleblow”/insert themselves into this situation without receipts.
This is a super common misunderstanding. You can tell the court, the police, etc. You may not tell the press.
Is it really that hard to believe that pedos would use the live chat and whispers to prey on kids on the platform?
No it’s not, but my opinion on whether pedos use messaging apps to predate on kids is irrelevant to the specific allegation that Twitch lets pedophiles “run free”. It doesn’t make logical sense.
Imagine I make the assertion “Twitch knows that pedos are preying on kids and aren’t doing anything about it” and to substantiate that I say “pedos use messaging apps to prey and on kids all the time”. The premise does not directly support the conclusion.
Especially when at least one instance we know about, inappropriate messages were sent from a creator to a minor which resulted in a perma ban.
I’m not excusing or justifying anything here. Just trying to think logically and critically. Cmon fun-skin we need more gumshoes in this community!
I mean it’s just like how YouTube did nothing to protect kids from predators in comments for years. They are spread thin in moderation already and they don’t want the bad PR. It’s highly feasible.
There’s no way he has access to anything. Only chance is if recorded or screen shotted something. But that would def violate the NDA.
How is it his job to do something that imo breaches users' security, but when something is found it's not actively acted on? What was the purpose of his job lol
When singing up to twitch, you agree to the conditions. This is not a breach of user security. His job is to protect the interests of Twitch, not the kids, unfortunately.
So he's working for twitch HR sort of, and isn't anymore, has doubts, as he didn't understand he was working for twitch HR.
Pretty much any third party service has access to everything you type/store on said service
Damage Control.
thats capitalism baby.
the purpose of his job is to keep twitch from looking like a haven for pedos, if he was able to expose and ruin peoples lives for being on twitch talking to kids that would make twitch seem like a place pedos had been going to talk to kids which isnt a good look for twitch.
no company gives a single fuck about this whatsoever, they could not care less about kids being preyed on. it happens on virtually every platform on the internet. they care about making money and being at the top of the food chain, if that comes at the cost of kids being in danger then it is what it is.
the purpose of his job is to keep twitch from looking like a haven for pedos
How does reading DMs and doing nothing about it help towards this goal? I guess he tells to his boss, who tells the streamer, heeeey can you stahp pls we need you as streamer without the horny stuff ok?
he keeps it from becoming public, literally the opposite of what would protect kids.
twitch has a vested interest in what goes on in peoples DMs, why would they not want to know that? if people leak twitch DMs that are full of insane shit the first question the public is going to ask is "why didnt you know this was happening on your platform?"
these big streamers all have mods and insiders at twitch that reach out about different things, im sure someone reached out to doc at one or many points about who he was talking to and to be careful about what he says and he either ignored them or said the wrong thing and thats why he got banned.
this guy is part of the reason doc got banned and he is still saying not enough is being done, there are a lot of ways to interpret that, none of them are good
doing nothing
You understand that were talking about this subject because one of the most prominent streamers was banned off of the platform because of his inappropriate DMs, right? What do you mean by "nothing"?
Sounds like Twitch is no better than Kick behind closed doors. I guess hosting a website where people can stream themselves just turns you evil inevitably
So news like this come up, is Ethan suppose to talk about it or people here gonna go nuts.
If Twitch sued him over breaching the NDA it would financially hurt them much more than if they just let it go, I would think. I don't see why they would hold power over him other than it hurting his future chances of being hired somewhere at another company where they rely on NDA's to cover up abuse from their contractors. But I don't think this guy wants another job like that anyway.
Ah yes, the same Rellim from this clip where trainwrecks sent him $30,000 in crypto. Was a HUGE deal when people were trying to get gambling banned. I'm pretty sure Ethan talked about it too? https://x.com/ostonox/status/1572264800616599552
I don't trust that guy he doesn't have a good reputation.
Apparently he was fired for this too, good. https://x.com/CarterT81189/status/1806186541699494126
If I saw that shit I would tell the world and deal with twitch later. Protecting children > protecting twitch or streamers.
It seems more accurate to say that predators flock to the platform because of its core demographic, not that the platform"lets them run free". After all, the guy's job was to investigate them, so it doesn't seem like they are indifferent to the problem if they're spending hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in salaries on staff whose job it is to police that behavior.
Why are they not naming names if they can't hold back anymore?
NDAs are null and void when it comes to illegal actions.
somewhat
wowzers this is getting dark
I audibly gasped. I hate it here.
Now most of them are on Kick.
Say their names? What’s the point of saying all this if you’re not going to put their names?
Least shocking revelation. I imagine this is part of the settlement not wanting to open this can of worms for Twitch.
That statement is coming from a guy who got fired from twitch for sexually harassing female streamers and now is clout chasing…priceless. Watch the interview with one of the women who were at the center of it all.
The same company that makes their employees shit in bag to deliver packages faster lets abusers get away with things in the name of profits. Seems expected from them.
And then there's Kick . . . Something about these hugely unregulated streaming platforms seems to draw pedophiles somehow 🤔🤔🤔
All social media is rampant with pedophiles
You guys realize youtube hosts just bad if not worse creators than twitch’s whole history right? Ya dont think there are millions of pedos/ r wordists/ etc. on youtube who get away with it? Ethan has even made videos talking about elsa gate and shit. Dr. Disrespect is literally now a youtube streamer after he got booted from twitch years ago. I get since we like youtube we wanna shit on other platforms but the fact that twitch banned him for life over this before anyone knew despite him being a cash cow for them is more than most platforms would have done at the time.
You should assume that the company where semi naked women get advertised to children, would be a place where pedos roam.
Hmmm NDA? Or exposing pedophiles....tough choice I hope he figures out what the right decision is s/
Get sued for a ton of money to call out twitch and change nothing? He doesn’t have receipts regardless. Twitch wouldn’t let him take data with him.
Yep, simple as that! There is definitely nothing else to consider when breaching a contract made with one of the largest corporations on the planet. Obviously it’s purely a matter of ethics, don’t worry about Amazon ruining you financially with a legal barrage and barring you from ever working in the industry again! Just do the right thing, it’s easy!
Unless this guy drops proof, it seems to me like he just tryna get some clout off of the doc situation. I hate that people wait until a malfeasance goes viral to say, "I've known this was happening the whole time with multiple huge streamers and never said anything." It's not the flex he thinks it is.
A lot of streamers actually try staying buddy, buddy with him... unless he's got stuff on them too.
i fully believe there are sexual deviants in the twitch staff.
Man I hope those NDAs don’t protect crime bc he should’ve just given the logs to the FBI 😅
NDAs don’t protect against illegal activity, but talking to a minor on the internet is not illegal. Good luck with the 50 lawyer team Amazon would send at you for breaching your NDA.
I still find it weird that this whole dr disrespect thing was the talk of the Internet for so long and nobody could get any info on what happened and now that one guy came out and said what happened everyone is coming out of the woodwork to say they knew all along. All y'all guilty as fuck. Shit gets leaked constantly with no consequences because it's pretty easy to hide who said what. Yet none of you tried to get the info out there till years after the fact. Just protecting pedophiles and trying to cover your tracks now.
great can’t wait to hear about it on the podcast for hours and hours
