Any forklift classes for someone without a drivers liscense?

Work as a machine operator for a few months and prove to the supervisor you are not a dumbass, and then just express some interest and you will get trained to drive a forklift.

You don’t need a drivers license to be a forklift operator. Most companies have their own internal program to get you certified.

Each company is different and from my experience most will certify you on the job per their own requirements, etc. I drove forklifts, reach trucks, and cherry pickers as part of a warehouse job several years back in the early 2000's. A valid drivers license was a requirement at that time for this company.

The company certification was an in-house thing, so not something transferrable like it was with the software certification like Excel or the warehouse inventory program.

None of the new hires we had ever arrived with any sort of preliminary forklift certification. Folks were hired and then trained on the different equipment. I trained new hires on how to drive the equipment, swap out the batteries, safety, hard clean-up, inspection checklists, etc.

We were also subject to random drug screening, but usually it was only when somebody had an accident. In 5 years I was only subject to one random, but never had an accident, so that didn't apply. You knew who wasn't going to pass when they just got in their car and left never to return.

NibelWolf says it more succinctly in terms of how it works to get started. I began on the line stacking orders on pallets, but expressed interest in loading trailers. Eventually moved up to be able to drive all kinds of equipment. Driving these things was one of the best jobs I ever had. I preferred the reach trucks.

Sounds like you're working towards expanding your skillset, so simply work with whatever requirements a company has and go for it. If an outside certification is what folks are looking for then I hope you can make it work. Otherwise, it may not be all that important to a lot of companies.

There is a type of forklift certification that is called 'site specefic'. It doesn't translate to other facilities, just the building you work in. It's easy to get as long as there is someone that knows how to do it.
