I have uploaded a 25 minute mp4 video manually to the cloud and it plays fine.
If I attempt to play the file from my computer it doesn't work.
Would anyone know why this is please?

My windows 10 machine can't play 10 bit files the new GP record in.
They work fine in my video editor, Davinchi Resolve Studio.
Do you like this editor? Now that I have practice with the Go Pro Quik app and messing around with edits from multiple trips. I would like an editor that isnt a subscription but also not complicated.
but also not complicated
Then Davinchi is NOT your answer.

Damn, but thank you for the heads up
Did you make sure you have installed the HEVC codec on your pc (available from the Microsoft store for .99 cents)?
I haven't installed any HEVC codes. I will look into that. Thank you.
Can you provide more details than simply “doesn’t work?”
Is there an error message? What video players have you tried? What operating system - Windows or Mac? If Windows, did you install the HEVC codec? Have you tried using GoPro Player? Does it show a blank screen while audio plays? How is the file on the computer - did you connect the SD card directly?
These are the types of details necessary to provide helpful troubleshooting advice
I am using a chromebook, attached via usb is my external hard drive which has the mp4 file on. The file plays with sound only the video is black. I did not see any error codes.
I had a big back and forth with GoPro support on an issue similar to this. Since purchasing the Hero 11 black in December 2022.
What it came down to was the HEVC format wasn't good for systems using Chrome OS or Android. This is particularly the case for videos shot at maximum resolutions and framrates (think anything at 8:7 ratio, or 4k 120 fps). Which sucks because I really love the visibility and flexibility that 8:7 gives you.
If you're unsure, open the footage locally in the GoPro Quick app (ie. Make sure you're viewing it on your phone, not the cloud), and it'll have a "High-performance video" tag at the top of the screen. These videos do not work well with Chrome OS or Android.
The solution I found works is bump the resolution down to 2.7k in 16:9 ratio (4:3) if you want the video for an edit. If you want to record in 8:7 to get screenshots from the video that works fine, but doesn't work on Chrome OS or Android. It took me a while to get over it, but once I did I found that my experience with using the GoPro and content creation hasn't been affected.
Thank you, my video was shot in the highest resolution. Will try the next one on lower res.
After paying so much for the gopro I thought I would have an easy experience with uploads etc, I'll have to find a way to get over it too as the camera gets some great footage.
I know, it was a real wrench for me when I came to the conclusion. I love GoPro and have for a while, but I was all set to jump to a competing product. I'd been shooting footage at high resolution and at 8:7 rational for over a year before I finally got to the bottom of it. I resolved to get some really awesome stills from the footage, which was really therapeutic.
I started shooting in 2.7K and haven't had any issues since then. I largely edit on Android though not Chrome OS, so your mileage may vary.
Apple user's don't have this issue and have the full resolutions, frame rates, and ratio unlocked to them. But I'm an Android user and not inclined to, nor in a position to, change devices.
you need to install a video player that can play the codec, media player classic or VLC comes in mind and they are free, your standard video player simply dosent have the codec for playing h265 files and such they can't properly play it
