Anyone else only doing or did 5 day liquid? My surgery is on 5/2 so they have me doing 5 days instead of 2 weeks which I thought 2 weeks was the norm?

I’m doing 2 weeks, but it’s not a liquid diet, it’s shakes + lean protein and veggies. Maybe the fact that you’re on only liquids makes up for the short timeframe? I’m starting at a BMI of 40.2 which is quite high so maybe I need longer to shrink my liver and lose a bit more than others?

I think it just depends on the surgeon. My Dr has a blanket 3 days for his program, my BMI was over 50 and I only had to do 3 days.

I start clear liquid on 4/27 for surgery and my bmi is 39 at 5’3 and a half but i have a pear shaped body so wonder if maybe it’s just insurance?

Every program is different. I had to do 14 days, but I have spoken to people who did as little as one day.

I didn't have a pre-op liquid diet at all

I’m on 14 days of milk only. No food. Absolutely nothing but milk and one stock drink (for salt).

Seems like a thing the UK like to do. I’m on day 8 and I’m actually so sick of milk I’ve only had about 300 calories worth of milk the last 4 days.

they told me no milk for me clear liquid only and I am in the USA so thats interesting

I had two weeks of just protein shakes and two days of liquid only before the surgery. The doctor told me they do that two week diet to shrink the liver, so that there's less chance of damaging it during the surgery. I had NAFLD at the time, so it made sense to me. It probably varies a lot from practice to practice, and from patient to patient. If I need a revision (which I probably do), I'm not likely to need that two week prep, since I don't have NAFLD anymore.
