I am in costal 10a and get marine layer till about 10am most days. I have 3 raised beds that I water weekly, everything else is monthly or none.
I am embarrassingly bad at naming plants, but here are some: - sweet alyssum (white ground ground cover) - calla lillies in white, pink, yellow - yarrow is the small pink flowers about a foot tall (ca native and so pretty) - light pink geraniums - blooming onions cause I think the balls are so pretty and they never get big anyway - blooming celery - pink dianthus - blooming bok choy - blooming creeping thyme - blooming tropical milk weed I cut down in the winter, adding more barrow leaf milkweed not yet blooming and is native) - lavender - purple salvia - California poppy (native)
As for veg, some is blooming and listed above, also: - oregano - sage - chives - bunching green onions - green and yellow bell peppers - Serrano peppers - Poblano peppers - Trinidad scorpion peppers - thai dragon peppers - habanero - strawberries - cherry tomatoes - beefsteak tomatoes - mystery volunteer tomatoes - artichoke that will probably not do much because I don’t water it enough - Lima beans
A lot of the peppers survive for years and since I let stuff go to seed, we get all sorts of volunteers
The nasturtiums love the partial shade. I have some in full sun and they aren’t nearly as pretty. Those are all volunteers and honestly all over the canyons here.
Hope that helps! If you want to know about a specific plant, reply with a picture and I’ll see if I can tell you any more.
Beautiful!
Thank you! I’ve really been enjoying it
The picture of the red and orange vining flowers on the trees just makes my soul warm. It must be divine living among all those flowers.
Imagine the hummingbirds 😭 my grandmother had the exact bush that grew behind her property, the city cut it down as a fire hazard during wildfire season 5 years ago….just this year the birds are coming back finally.
Beautiful!
NIIIIICE
Love the artichoke in there.
I planted one in my wife's flowerbed this year. She didn't know what it was for the longest. Once, I informed her she just couldn't understand why I planted it in the flowerbed.
If nothing else, the foliage is a fun different texture
I might have done it to encourage her to come drop some things in soil herself.
The salvia and dautra will outpace it soon enough.
Nasturtium heaven!
What is that plant on the left hand side of the first photo? The color and way it grows reminds me of lambs ear but it looks the wrong texture and those flowers are just beautiful! I’d love to get some!
That is one I don’t know the name of - it was covered to me. It’s spreading and fairly drought tolerant, but will take water if you give it
I’ll screenshot and consult Dr Google and be right back with the results 😂😎
Google says it’s an African Daisy (common name), scientific name ‘Arctotis’ and it looks like your color of flower is called a “Burgundy Belle”! How lovely!
Thanks! TIL.
They natively grow on the rocky cliffs of Africa so drought tolerant is an understatement! You must have well draining soil under there!
I do…. And I also don’t really water that part of the bed as much / it gets the most sun.
Is that a celery bush next to it? Or am I just crazy? 😂 I don’t like celery so I don’t have any experience with what it looks like planted
Yes! But it’s gone to seed, so it’s a bit out of control.
Ohhhhh how fun! It looks much different than I imagined it would!
Nice😀
Would you be able to give a list of flowers for someone unfamiliar? I recognize a few but not all.
What zone/ area do you live in?
What vegetables do you usually plant?
Is there a specific flower you like to plant next to specific vegetables?
For the massive nasturtium, you say it isn't your doing but do you know how to make such a thing possible? Mine are.... very sad.
