From my experience its consistent through the US. That's a yes.
You: "Asks a question, probably has an expression of doubt"
Whoever: Yeah (I mean yes), no (dismissing your doubt), Sure (doubling down on yes).
Doesn't hurt to just ask for clarification though.
Good breakdown. Funny how we seemingly subconsciously do this
fun with tonal languages!
You’ve GOT to be careful of the slightest hint of sarcasm though because it becomes a dare with steep consequences.
That's a yes.

The rum cost my my left liver
It means I will go along with it and then blame you later when it all goes wrong.
yeah,,,no. sure.
Myeah
and also “mmmm, yeah”
Imma need to come in on Saturday
What would you say.... Ya do here...
Yeah nah yeah nah yeah = australian and highly contextual.
Surprisingly you’re not Australian
Midwest America also uses this
Also Canada.
Oh for sure ya = absolutely.
Well that would be depending on how you say it. Oh, for sure, ya, could mean no.
All of the US
Anyone who watches TV
Also the rest of america
"Yeah naw yeah naw yeah, well that's Australian and highly contextual"
This is no where near Aussie. It defines "no", we use "nah". Clearly not Aussie with an articulated No.
I thought every talked like this…
In Southern Californian, "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" really fast means "No, No I'm definitely doing that."
In my experience "yeah yeah yeah" = "oh man I totally forgot" 2 days later.
"Yes I hear what you are saying and you can stop talking because I am about to dismiss it."
Precisely. It’s like a passive-aggressive “please shut up”
As a Minnesotan I approve this message.
Wisconsin here, indeed.
Another from Wisconsin. You betcha.
Wisco as well. Yeah no for sure, approved
Ope! Just gonna squeeze past ya and grab the ranch dressing
No problem! I'll mix ya an old fashioned while yer here and when yer ready to hit da road be sure ya drive safe, watch for deer, and tell your folks I says hi! 🙂
(No pause transition into the Minnesota Goodbye after they say they need to get going)
Which reminds me, are you guys still wanting to use da cabin next month? Tim and Cheryl are lookin to get a little time away from the kids. Their boy Tommy, bless him, has them so darn busy with all of his hockey games and they will be wrapping up the championship in the next week or so and they will be getting a little break. They are going to ship the kids up north to see their grandparents for a week and they asked if the cabin was available. But now that I'm thinking about it, it really wouldn't be a problem since you guys weren't planning on going up until the 16th. Oh gosh darn it, I just remembered I have a hysterectomy appointment on the 15th. I'll have to have Bobby get you guys set up. Should be a good time though... the cabin trip, not the hysterectomy. Though I should be just fine, don't worry about me when you come up. I hope your Aunt Sadie's surgery went well, she had gone through enough what with the divorce and all. She is a pretty strong woman, I'm sure she was fine... anyway, I better let you guys get going. You'll want to get home before the storm comes through. But we do need the rain, the garden has been drying up and everyone's lawn is turning brown. I don't think we're going to have any tomatoes this year, the plants are looking like limp noodles. Speaking of limp noodles. Ha. Bobby has been meaning to ask if you still need his weed whacker. He's got it all charged up, just let us know and we will swing it by. Oh! You have that party coming up that would be perfect. Did you need us to bring a casserole or a hot dish? Maybe Bobby can whip up some chicken salad. Oh look at me yammering on, you guys need to get going, just let me quick grab you a plate of the left over cake. We are never going to eat all of it and I would hate to have it go to waste and I am sure little Susie wouldn't mind a little. How is 2nd grade treating the little one? Ope, almost got caught up in a Minnesotan Goodbye. I'll go grab the cake. Did you want a few pops for the road? We've got enough to last till winter. (Alright someone else take over, I have to go eat dinner.)
🏅 that's pure gold!
Illinoisan checking in. Yeah, no, for sure.
Iowan also checking in, approved.
This is why I know I can't teach English as a second language. Imagine explaining this to 20 adults who don't even share a common language.
Sorry but that's stupid. This video works because of the lack of commas and the implicit irony in some sentences.
Oh yeah?
Yeah sure
A fitting username
How is Yeah Yeah Yeah = No ?

yeah, right ...
Two positives (yeah and right) that make a negative (no).
The way it's said matters though. I use "yea yea yea" when I'm excitedly agreeing with something.
Makes a big difference in tone, saying all three happily means yes but quickly repeating ya 3 times in the same flat tone means no
I take it as being dismissive of what is being said. It's less of a 'no' and more of a 'I'm ignoring you'.
Exactly!
Yea yea yea! Yeeeeaaaa Yeeeeaaaa Yeeeeaaaa is a negative.
I feel like they should get shorter.
"Yeaaaaaah yeaaah yeah, whatever you say, buddy".
In my head it's followed by "whatever"
Like "yeah yeah yeah whatever dude"
When I'm, "yeah, yeah, yeahing" someone quickly it's not a no - but rather I know what needs to be done, I'm going to do it, so you don't have to remind me again.
"Don't forget to clean the garage this weekend...."
"Yeah...yeah...yeah...".
Ya that makes sense, it's so hard to describe tone thru text lol!
I interpreted it as
Yeah yeah yeah (with energy) = "for sure!"
Yeah yeah yeah (with each yeah a tone lower than the last) = ironic agreement, implying dismissal
Yeah yeah yeah (said quickly with mild energy) = "I'm listening"
It’s supposed to be said with a sarcastic/dismissive tone
Thanks. Also couldn’t make any sense of it with the speaker’s almost-neutral tone.
That's how we talk.
Yeah Yeah Yeah, like yeah right, like definitely not, so like no, yeah?
Or it could mean your about to hear the offspring play why don't you get a job
Should be: Yeah Yeah Yeah = Fiiiine
Exactly!!
If it's rapid fire yeah's, then it means yes, if it's slower drawn out yeah's then it means no.
In the midwest, "yeah yeah yeah" can mean "yes"
It is dismissive. Yea yea yea = whatever, I don’t care, shush
Imagine you're saying it quickly to a dude pushing you some flyers at a mall.
It's like CJ saying "yeah yeah yeah shut the fuck up" when OG Lock starts rapping, when he says "yeah" multiple times it means that he already understood what Jeff- OG Lock said and he does not wishes to hear his lame ass rap no more
Sarcasm
It’s the tone and speed that dictates it most. His inflection isn’t correct for the “No”.
It’s more “Yeah…yeah (lower inflection)…yeah (lower inflection still)”. It’s almost like a “Whatever”
If you like this humor, check out Dimitri Martin's standup.
Hey Yeah = "Shake it like a Polaroid Pic-cha"
Surprisingly it does.
In Brussels, Belgium, where we mainly speak French, saying “Non peut-être” (literally: “no perhaps”) means “off course”. It’s very unusual for rest of the French speaking world.
French Canadian here. That woild definitely confuse me.
Does it mean something like "there's no maybe about it"?
Yeah, no yeah this is accurate. Michigan checking in.
Well that's Australian, and highly contextual
Nice head.
(Means you have a bad head)
Not really. This is applicable to regions of the US too. And a lot of language is highly contextual. Fail to see your point
Sorry, I was quoting a song by Tom Cardy, didn't mean to be rude
No you crossed the line bucko 🤬
G'day champion
Well he's not wrong lol
English, tis a silly language.
I am from everywhere and nowhere and I can confirm this is a video.
Californian here, can confirm this since age 12.
..pero like yeah no yeah. Can confirm from Miami 🤣
sure sounds like a stolen demetri martin bit to me
How is "Yeah no for sure = yeah"
For me its a "no" .
As in " yes, for sure No"
Yeah, no for sure = no
Yeah no, for sure = yeah
The English language, ladies and gentlemen.
Tell me you only speak English without telling me.
Yeah, no
Ive never thought about this untill now, and now my head hurts
What about “yeah no definitely”
Yeah nah yeah nah yeah = Well that’s Australian and highly contextual
Yeah no it makes sense I’m from the Midwest
You’re from the Midwest, yeah?
Ozzyman needs these as captions in his videos
Actually that one's Australian and highly contextual
This is Californian. We also have the “dude” dialect.
It doesn't work without the Aussie accent
This works pretty much everywhere in the US.
No.
Yeah it does
How to speak Midwest 101

Alice: Yup
Bob: Yup
yup yup yup yup yup yup yup
I'm scratching my head while trying to understand
Yeah yeah yeah = you are Lorde
I always say “yeah no for sure” idk when it started but I don’t know how to stop
trying to teach the english language
Explain to drunk college kids…🥴
I don’t get why people say English is tough. Through and through, though, it ain’t too rough. It’s pretty malleable like dough
There was a stand up comedian that did a bit like this a few years ago
englisch 101
It actually does make sense, like if u think of the tones urself, it kinda makes sense.
Someone has broken our code, fellow Midwestern Americans!
Ope.
My only complaint is that they left out “yeah right”
No no yeah
Makes perfect cents
My numberplate is yea nah
It’s whatever the last one is.
His tone doesn’t convey some of them too well
The English language is a confusing one. And this is coming from a guy whose first language is English
Yo this actually makes sense…
There is a ward in Russia that means “dunno maybe no” = “yes, no, maybe”
Canadian chiming in- this is legit
MIDWEST IN THIS BITCH HOMIE
Yean, no - this really needed to be made.

Да нет, наверное, не знаю.
Obviously this presenter has real world experience with jersey girls.
Canadians
Yeah yeah yeah feels more like no way
In response, I can only say yeah yeah no sure yeah yeah no.
As an Australian, I understood all of that.
Ah the triple confirmation, the art of getting over with a conversation. Widely used by guys with parents, teachers, gfs, and wives. Examples include "yeah yeah yeah," "sure sure sure," and "fine fine fine."
Was this made by someone from phila?
Warning ⚠️ Deadly audio.
yeah nah mate
In Austria we say "Na ned na na!" which translates to "No not no no!", meaning yes of course!
