I feel like egoism and chaos magic are similar. They both use your belief in something as a tool and are very anti-dogma so I’m not surprised to see the overlap of chaotes who are also egoist.
chaotes
Isn't that an edible green gourd which originates from the southern reaches of Turtle Island?
All circlejerking aside, my favorite cookbook Recipes for Disaster has a recipe on page 323 of the second edition for "Spell Casting" which is possibly the most potent and misunderstood in the entire volume. So maybe it's not as esoteric as OP might have initially presumed?
Voodoo. Who do? You do
-Do what ?
-Remind me of the babe.
Very good example/attempt at a "spell" (even if not voluntary).
But you couldn't possibly know for sure that I knew this reference, nor that I tried searching for the Career opportunities music video of afterdark again or that I listened to several of Bowie's albums, or that I did both of those things only yesterday and that it was the only cultural reference related that could make me think of both because it is all a matter of probabilities and psychology, not magic.
I am the one who had power over that "spell" because I was the one who could recognise it as such but I know it isn't.
Because that's how it works.
Magic is making others or yourself think you have the power to do some things.
You know it, I know it.
I do in fact have the power to do many things, and the only person who knows what all of those things are is moi
But knowing that I speak french is quite easy compared to your other "achievement" , someone could predict or explain rationally how you could do this. As it can be done with many other tricks...
I simply felt like using it for that particular word to give it an illustrative quality, you caught me in an impish mood and you had already initiated our conversation
This interaction made my week a bit better, thank you. From your history I can also tell that you are quite based, I must also thank you for your theory under the "Mistakes into Miracles" post, I stumbled upon it earlier, it reminded me of a based acquaintance and that I should read Bakunin some day.
I haven't started God and the State yet. I have so much reading left to do still, I don't think I will ever be done and I've accepted that. I'm glad you derived some enjoyment from my musings 😊
I love discordianism it is really cool I heard about it from a podcast. i really like the whole thing about the 5 pebbles (I think they're pebbles I can't remember) where you will see whatever you believe and also fnord is a great word
also sorry that was a bin fire of a sentence
No worries, I still found it to be quite intelligible. Punctuation is a spook anyway.
aww thank you yes you're right <3. also something interesting I noticed is that my spelling did a nose dive when I started learning Spanish lmaoo
Chaos magic is interesting. What I gleaned from Pete Carrol's Liber Null and Liber Kaos is that kaos magic is basically about using psychological trickery and the power of your subconscious to influence your will to achieve a desired result.
Basically you implant the want or wish using certain techniques like meditation and then totally forget about it. Your subconscious then steers your will independently, so that it is not influenced or biased by the random input and changing concious desires that you experience in your everyday life.
Eventually your will prevails and you hopefully get the desired result. The main trick seems to be knowing which goal to implant for your will to follow, if it is too vague then you will likely get an erroneous result, if one at all, whereas something too precise can be literally unattainable.
Certainly very interesting and the books are fascinating. I didn't however follow up on it because it takes serious commitment- as in years of study and practice and that just ain't my thang.
Thanks for this comment! I actually started to practice without too much commitment and it makes me feel good. Making sigils is dope af
I hope you enjoy yourself and take a lot from it. Another fascinating aspect of Chaos Magick is one of its basic premises, and why it can use the chaos star as representative of its credo, or rather non-credo. It is also one of the reasons I feel that many anarchists, egoists and individualists seem to be attracted to it.
The chaos in chaos magick refers to the fact that there are no real hard and fast rules. It views the entirety of religion and the occult, literature and media indeed all of human acquired knowledge as a huge toolbox to which you have access to. And of course it is perfectly permissible to take and use any aspect of this if it will allow you to achieve your desired outcome.
Chaos magicians will think nothing of taking elements of a Christian ritual, a tract on behavioural psychology, a physics paper on the behaviour of sub atomic particles in a vacuum, a passage from the Kali-Santarana Upanishad etc etc and combine them into a sigil, series of sigils or other meaningful way (to them) in order to produce a means of acquiring the desired enlightenment to be able to manipulate that knowledge to their advantage.
Even if you disagree with organised religion (which you should), as long as you can understand and recognise the reasons why the tracts or rituals of, for example any denomination of Christianity, were originally created (after all they were made ultimately to control people on some level) then you can appropriate these items and by recognising the potential power contained within them, and, discarding any notion of the supremacy of these ideas, can use them, along with any other 'totems of power', to your advantage. There is no limit to this - it is just as acceptable to use Tolkien, Harry Potter or Cyberpunk as it is to use the Torah or the Qur'an. Similarly with rituals - feel free to mix religious with non-religious rituals.
This is the chaos element, and it is within this gargantuan scope that the freedom and power of chaos magick lies.
I don't know if you are aware of "The Illuminates of Thanateros", they are a Chaos Magick Order started by Carrol and others who now have branches worldwide. They have quite an interesting history if you can collate the disparate info available online. The Wikipedia entry is pretty sparse, but there is info out there. The story of the Ice Magic Schism is a bit of a dark story that flirts on the edge of (although I don't think purposefully - it can just be interpreted that way) Aryan race theory. I think it is referring to climate, not race, but the fact it was proposed by a German didn't help.
Anyway, here's a pdf on the subject to get you going if you are interested:
The Illuminates of Thanateros and the institutionalisation of religious individualisation (pdf)
And another thing, beware of getting freaked out when you start seeing IoT everywhere in the context of communication - it isn't the Illuminates of Thanateros expanding their occult tendrils everywhere, that's just the Internet of Things and the Baafer-Meinhoff effect, or frequency illusion lmao 💣
Nothing is true; everything is permitted
Glad to see I’m not alone in this type of stuff. A majority of egoists are atheist and/or anti-theist altogether (I did a poll lmao)
Love discordianism and all the related material. Stirner is mentioned in the Illuminatus trilogy as well.
Very very interested. I consider myself a Satanist, sort of LaVeyan but I have a lot of disagreements with the dude, and chaos magic has always seemed kind of related in the sense of... vibes. I just vibe with William Blake when he says that "all deities reside in the human breast". So yeah, looking into it.
Uh same. As a non-american, I never liked the "hollywoodian" aspects of LaVeyan satanism (+ their obsession with legalism), just their aesthetics and some quotes of Anton + the concept of psychodrama, but I would definitly choose it over TST which I find really not my thing
Same actually!! Anton really had that objectivist thing going for him, very much capitalism-brained even if they don't admit to being political. I like all the life-affirmation, but capitalism, legalism, rationalism are pretty repressive. I try to view the aesthetics through a Nietzschean and Egoist lens. Also modern members and r / satanism dwellers are pretty cringe. Got banned over there because I got frustrated at getting my points misrepresented lmao.
TST is just liberalism/enlightenment with edgy aesthetics.
I don't believe in magic or gods, but I honestly don't care what you do, just don't push your beliefs on me.
fucking stupid
It’s a spook

i'm sorry it's kind of a shit reply obv but this is incredible spookerino'd i cannot
Discordianism specifically doesn’t really do that I think. It’s funny too.
Spooked af
"Good" thing?
In a bout of psychosis, I ended up manifesting multiple “deities” of my own creation in my head. They were sort of like tulpas or split personalities minus the dissociation. I think this is very similar to chaos magic. I’ve definitely had some passing interest in discordianism and could definitely use it to my advantage…while taking my antipsychotics of course. Brain’s too weird without them.
As with every question asked here, the answer remains, do what you want
Yup I was asking for individual opinions, not permissions
It's pretty neat, the idea of inversions of order and change through will slot in nicely to the broad ego umbrella, though i think it also warrants a good dose of self awareness, as not to invite the pitfalls of various organised systems of spirituality.
love the idea of discordianism, but it seems people that identify with it are mostly just into selective light social justice stuff, so i tend to use the imagery but i don't think the fanbase is inspiring
hey i just described egoism
