Formula 1 | A winning team takes far more than just two drivers | Red Bull's pit crew were on it in China - executing two stunning double stacks on the way to another 1-2
StatisticsRed Bull Racing took personally the TD that was supposed to nerf their pit stops lol
No fking idea why the rule maker thinks human can do a better job than sensors in those scenario. But hey, pushing for rule changes is also part of the game.
What was the TD?
Something like an automatic release system which released the driver when all tires were fitted. FIA made mandatory .15 sec delay before release when all tires are fitted to account for human reaction time.
It was in 2021. I believe Mercedes asked the FIA if teams were allowed to use automated signals in the pits, and the FIA banned it.
Is there any category left where Red Bull aren't the fastest team ?
Funny enough there was a period recently where Red Bull were being challenged by Ferrari and McLaren on pitstops even more than on pace. In the last 7 races of 2023 Red Bull had the quickest pitstop in just 1 of those races, and Ferrari beat them in the pits in Bahrain as well this year. However since then Red Bull have posted the fastest pitstop 4 races in a row so they’re definitely back on form.
counting the last few races against them is unfair. red bull were so far ahead in the title race that it was probably better that they slowed down slightly and ensured higher accuracy
that's the scary part, sure you can go and try to nerf them but at this point what can you do?
Whatever category Singapore is
Maybe the wet? But then again we have had one wet quali session so hard to know if race pace would be similar.
Have you seen max in the wet? He's born under sealevel and it shows...
Max is born in Hasselt according to wikipedia, a whopping 37 m above sea level! By Dutch standards he is basically born in the mountains
does wikipedia say where he was conceived perchance?
wet quali is so much dependent on having the right moment to start, I hate it. Wet race is ok.
Sauber's looking at this wondering why Max and Checo want to spend so little time with their pit crews during the race.
It's not enough for Redbull to have the best driver. They also have by far the best pit crew.
They didn’t score a 1-2 in either race in China.
They might mean in the pitstop timing leaderboard?
“… on the way to another 1-2” implies the 1-2 is an endpoint.
Another 1-2 in the DHL pitstop rankings. They also got a 1-2 in the previous pitstop rankings in Japan, which is why they said another 1-2 here.
Thank you for this. It’s the perfect illustration of how much explanation needs to be done to make that caption work. The ranking is the endpoint, so 1-2 fits in that context.
Which was achieved with a double-stack.
Which wasn’t achieved at all. They finished 1-3 in both races.
it's about the pit stop results in the DHL pit stop championship... not actual race results.
“A 1-2” conventionally refers a race result. To quote Carlos Sainz Jr. “stop inventing”.
Except the topic here is Pitstops.... it's ok to make mistakes.
Red Bull achieved the first and second (a 1-2) fastest pitstops in China while double stacking.
I’m not going to make assumptions about your command of English, but “first fastest” isn’t a thing (at least in this context). Fastest and second fastest when measuring time, first and second (across the line) when establishing finishing order. The latter example counts as a conventional 1-2, the former does not.
Mate, F1 literally produce a leader board of the "fastest pitstops" (which I linked) where they're ranked "1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.".
All I'm doing is explaining why they've put "1-2" in that image. Rather than move on when something's been explained to you, you've decided to resort to insults?
And I’m trying to explain to you that how they’ve used “1-2” in that caption is incorrect. It implies something that didn’t happen, your mental gymnastics notwithstanding.
As another redditor said,
Except the topic here is Pitstops.... it's ok to make mistakes.
Yeah it's a typo for sure lmao
Heard on a podcast someone point out that 'double-stacking' seems so shambolic such a mega-rich, highly technical sport and now I can't not see it.
What's funny is they could have absolutely terrible pits and still win
I like that they each have 4 seconds in total
They’re unhappy about mclaren snatching the fastest pit stop title away from them last year with a 1.80 sec stop . They coming for that record 😈
Sure, Verstappen improved here, but I just love Sergios consistency.
The Statistics flair is reserved for posts highlighting interesting statistics. As a rule of thumb, Statistics posts need to inform readers through visualizations and insights that cannot be obtained from raw data alone. For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.
