If you’ve played Fallout 3 before what tips would you give to a beginner player. I’m talking combat tips, SPECIAL tips, quest tips. Anything that you think a new player would find useful and/or something you wished you knew on your first playthrough.
If you see a holotape and pick it up and it says "replicated man" quest has started, reload your save and don't pick that up.
Im trying to figure out where to go to progress that quest after not playing fo3 for 10+ yrs I cannot figure it out lmao

Case in point, there are 19 holotapes, HOWEVER, in any one playthrough you will only be able to pick 4, at which time the remaining 15 will disappear from the game.
Of particular note are the holotapes in the “sympathizer” column, which are actually from members of the Railroad form FO4. Unlike other clue givers whom you can either talle or pick their holotape, these people won’t give you their Railroad dialogue line unless you first pick their holotape, which makes it easy to miss on their Railroad connection.
Personally I like to pick them with a theme in mind, like all Railroad tapes or all Slaver tapes (Cutter being the slavers medic).
By the way, Scribe Bowditch is story locked (you need access to the Citadel), so I don’t think I have ever gotten one of the clues from him.
As for the rest of the quest, basically you just need to reach Pinkerton at the broken bow of the ship, for which you need to either swim under it or pick a master lock, the later which you can unlock form the inside with a button for easier access later on.
After that, you have a few options on how to finish the quest, though I would suggest picking the dialogue option with the most difficult speech check so you get both rewards (most other methods only grant one, unless you use some minor exploits to get the other one).
Dammit! Wish I knew about all of that before getting deeper into the quest...I've picked up halo tapes here and there randomly. I know about the door outside that has a very hard lock, but totally forgot I could gain access from below. What's the speech checks your talking about to get both rewards? I was planning on siding with the synth.
After convincing Harkness that he is Android, tell him to go back to the Commonwealth with Zimmer. He will give you his unique plasma rifle and ask you to go tell Zimmer to take him back. When you speak with Zimmer, you get the perk. Then Zimmer picks Harkness and they leave for the Commonwealth.
By the way, Zimmer is also a synth, so by doing the above you are indeed “siding with the synth”!

As an extra detail, Pinkerton is also a synth, but he is essential until you complete both quests he’s involved with: the Replicated Man and the Wasteland Survival Guide. After that point he loses his essential status and you can find an android component in his corpse.
