Surprise! Pricing for MSFS 2020 is here! Pre-order available now!
you can.
If you have never tried it, the first month of gamepass is $1.
Not to be a shill but I think gamepass is so worth it. If you play more than 2 games a year then why not?
even if it's only for Flight Simulator. Im sure some people out there can't afford to buy the game straight out or for some people who would just love to try the game for a month or two before shelling out on the full price.
I know that but I definitely want to have the base version.
FYI, Microsoft Game Pass is $1 for the first month; so if you have that... that's one month of getting to fly for a dollar.
Might be the route I'll take before diving in.
Otherwise, Gamepass for almost a year is cheaper than outright buying the game (plus having other titles to play). Worth considering!
It sounds like a good deal but gamepass gives you the base edition of the game it seems.
Still good to check out how your PC deals with the game and check out the quality of the aircraft and airports, so you see what version is worth it for you.
Facing the same dilemma here. Reading their pre-order FAQ makes it sound like MS will offer upgrades at a price point more expensive than the original difference though, which is kinda sketch.
Q: Will I be able to upgrade editions?
A: Yes it is possible, but the most cost-efficient way to purchase Microsoft Flight Simulator is to buy the edition you are interested in.
That sucks, thanks for the link!
Agreed, I want KDEN but I really don't want to pay 120 dollars for that.
let's just hope a successor of misterx is there to help us
This does suck, I want the normal edition but with KSFO in it but that's under the premium package :/
I think its important to note:
Your fleet of planes and detailed airports from whatever edition you choose are all available on launch day as well as access to the ongoing content updates that will continually evolve and expand the flight simulation platform.
Do you think we’ll get more aircraft? Was really hoping for 737 and A350.
Almost a certainty. Unlike the last iteration of Flight Simulator, we're now deep into the games-as-a-service era. I'm betting there will be official airplanes (or airplane packs) released each year. There's no way MS lets the development of additional aircraft be dominated only by third parties.
I can not even imagine how fruitful the DLC structure will be for this game!
Are they likely to allow third-party content? Community-made addons may hurt their bottom line, so I hope they're open about it..
PMDG has already said there will be a 737 from them, so I think third party content is assured.
This is purely conjecture, but I have a feeling that they're going to go the Steam route and have dev partners go through the Mictosoft store (or where ever you're supposed to get official DLC from) to sell their product, ensuring that MS gets their cut too
Yeah a 737 was definetly on my wishlist as well. Hopefully pmdg will release a reasonably priced 737
PMDG will release a great 737 just not necessarily reasonably priced
just not necessarily reasonably priced
And they can keep it :)
I hope msfs 2020 marks a new era where flight simmers pay rightful amounts of money for a virtual plane, not twice the price of the simulator.
Worth noting:
Q: What version will be available with Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta)?
A: The standard edition of “Microsoft Flight Simulator” will be available on Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta)
What does it mean? That I can get the full game if I sub to the game pass?
You get the game but only the standard edition. Not the upgrades with more planes/airports.
Is it mine to keep or only for as long as I have the subscription on? Do the availabe games change over time? I never used this service, only had Humble Bundle subscription which let me keep all games after cancelling.
It is not yours to keep, you must maintain an active Game Pass (PC Beta) subscription OR a Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
I see, thank you. So this seems like a great way to check out the game at minimal cost (sub for 1 month, cancel before next payment) and then buy it if it runs fine and meets my expectations.
Absolutely, Game Pass is a great value in general though. You get access to over 100+ games. Best subscription I've signed up for since Netflix tbh.
You get the Full Standard edition of the game (the $59.99 version). If you want the Premium Deluxe version which is $119.99, it'll more than likely cost an additional $59.99 to upgrade to that version.
No, the lowest of the three editions.
Hopefully the upgrades just cost the difference
I don't know what to do with my hands
Just keep them on your joystick.
but if everyone has the dreamliner how am i supposed to flex
EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYqJALPVn0Y
Found the new trailer
Wing flex on the 747! That's not in the Alpha! Also, the waves look to have been improved too!
Shanghai skyscrapers (the beer opener at least) have 3d rooms... :)
The only problem with the trailer is that it's too short.
59.99 for the base game
89.99 deluxe
119.99 premium deluxe

70€ Holy Shit
It's 70€/90€/120€ in Spain. Wft, why the different prices?
€70 in Ireland.
Earlier than anyone expected!!!
Edit : anyone
It does seem very early. Hopefully they aren't rushing it out.....
Earlier than anyone expected!!!
Fixed
Wait - if we pre-order we can play beta? When does that begin?
Its not the beta. The (beta) is talking about Gamepass, which is considered beta for PC for some reason.
The client is in beta
Ah, weird wording then. Dreams crushed, until August 18th!
The Xbox app for Windows is still in beta phase. Not the gamepass itself.
This is also a question I need answers to!
Meanwhile, me to MS: Just shut up and take my money!
reddit sucks -- mass edited with redact.dev
Seriously, I'm probably going to buy two copies so me and my son can fly together.
However, that $30-40 youre getting a much more detailed aircraft than what you normally get from Microsoft directly.
Definatley relived it's not a subscription based service as speculated!
That being said does anyone know if it will be released on steam at some point or is it something you can only buy direct from Microsoft?
They might, as lately Microsoft has been releasing their exclusives in Steam. But they will never announce this at this point of course to have maximum sales on launch. They might import it to Steam next year.
On the FAQ they said they want it to be on as many platforms as possible and steam is the most popular platform. They're definitely at least considering steam.
It'll probably be Windows Store exclusive for a bit and then launched on Steam. Helps get a second "wave" of new players by doing this.
Does this mean it's worth holding out for the Steam release, or just preorder the Premium Deluxe edition now and deal with downloading from the Microsoft Store?
Isn't it developed by indie Asobo Studio in France, only published by Microsoft and using Microsoft's branding and Azure/Bing integration?
the microsoft store downloads way better than steam on my system at least.
Speculated by idiots only.
MS said they want their games on steam. Because it's one of the biggest games they have, i guess they're going to get as much money as possible from pre-orders and get as many subscribers to game pass and then release it on other platforms.
Yeah i do not not know why anyone gave any credence to that, they would just be shooting themselves in the foot.
Only one UK airport and even then it's only in the top package? Presumably the other airports will still be in the game but low quality?
Low quality is taking it too far, they will be good it's just that the handcrafted ones will be even better
Lower quality then
I mean there's a difference between low quality and lowER quality - is what buddy above is saying....
Yes, 37,000+ of them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10P21oFOxAU
They say all of the worlds airports, but 37k have been manually edited as shown using the tool in the vid.
Be interesting to see side-by-side the difference between airports in the base version Vs the same airport but included in one of the delux versions
Yep. We really need to see that before anyone pre-orders the ultimate edition or whatever theyre calling it
I knew I would finally get the invite! :D
I know - I'm such a cheapskate too, this is really testing me. All in, or wait for reviews/people's experiences. Doesn't look like pre-order pricing is going to change from release date pricing?
I doubt it would. I wish I played the alpha because the question of ‘now or later’ would be answered. Us who didn’t get in are kinda throwing our money in the dark in hopes it lives up to our expectations.
But boy is that 787 tempting.
i just pulled trigger on the 787!! boy am i excited.
Out of nowhere. Super hyped!
tells himself he doesn't need that SR22 tells himself he doesn't need that SR22 tells himself he doesn't need that SR22 tells himself he doesn't need that SR22
Fuck I know I'm gonna get that SR22

(How have I not heard about this)
because they never announced it
I hoped for a surprise 738...guess i gotta learn the a320 then
PMDG are making theirs for FS2020, so if you want to spend the same amount on a plane as you did on the whole simulator its an option.
pmdg 737 2020 for five bajillion usd
flightsimmers: wow what a bargain
I think I'll go for the Standard, but man that Dreamliner is tempting.
Yeah, I was thinking I'd go with the standard... until I saw
Time to change the reddit title!
Sorry for perhaps a dumb question, but I’ve not really followed the game much during development. Will there be a “lesson” type mode for people starting out or will it be best to rely on the inevitable YouTube tutorials?
Yes there are flight lessons currently for the C152, I don't know if they'll do it for all the planes though.
Glad to hear that - I’ve got virtually no experience in flight sims so I’m happy there will be a little bit of guidance to get started.
Welcome aboard
is it just me or are there no pre-order benefits listed? I don't see any reason to pre order software where there is no chance of it selling out unless there is some additional content.
If you have slow internet you can presumably start the 150GB download early. If you're on say 5mbit internet it would take aorund 3 days to download.
Even B78X is included. Fantastic
Why they gotta release on Monday night? Ugh that whole week will be a torture!
So who's calling in sick on Tuesday, maybe even Wednesday? Lol
Super excited. But personally, I'm going to want to see the difference of the before/afters of the higher end airports before I decide what copy I'll get.
Ill do one month of Xbox Game Pass which has the Standard edition. First month is only 1$. Then I can decide
Premium deluxe it is then.
Premium Deluxe Master Race
So much for the "it's only going to be subscription" claims.
Glad it's coming out so soon.
Pretty sure that was debunked a long time ago.
They said last year it was not going to be subscription.
Didn't understand people's logic with that anyway. Why would they do that?
I wasn't expecting multiple editions but august 17 is earlier than I thought too
I thought it was gonna be November for sure. I think that since the Closed Beta is releasing late July, the mid August access for people who pre ordered is gonna be beta too. The full/completed version should be coming in November. That's what I personally think.
november feels more like it. As an alpha tester, the alpha still feels very alpha. No way it's finished in august.
Yeah I'm kind of concerned, honestly.
It’s the classic EA/Ubisoft realeasing their product months to soon. I’m literally shocked that they plan to publish it in August. People will be disappointed.
Are there any props for actually pre-ordering? Could anyone give me a reason why I should pre-order instead of waiting for the release?
You shouldn't. Just wait for the reviews.
As far as I can see, there is none.
You can have it downloaded and play exactly when it's released
I really wish that MS would release some screenshots/comparisons of the additional hand crafted airports in the deluxe editions compared to their standard counterparts. Are they going to be significantly better? Or will the differences be relatively minor?
No helicopters?
not yet. They know we want them though, on their weekly snapshots it's been in the 'top wishlist' column for a while
welp time to buy the honeycomb yoke
100% getting the premium. Its releasing much sooner than I was expecting. Cant wait!
Will VR be supported at launch?
No
That's a shame. Flight/space sims are two game types that can really benefit from VR.
I will be waiting for VR support before buying it. There is just no comparison to looking at a picture of a plane on a screen to being in the plane with VR. Having actual depth perception is a is invaluable in flight sims. Formation flying and AAR in DCS is so much easier in VR because you don’t have to try to judge distance from visual cues, it’s just automatic. It blows my mind they built a modern flight sim without VR support from the beginning.
Hear, hear! I'm a real CTLS pilot and flying VR and force feedback joystick provides about 80% of the real feel.
That was my question too. Looks like I’ll be waiting a bit then... or I could just get a Track IR in the meantime...
I’ve not found anything saying TrackIR is supported yet either - do you happen to know it will be?
TrackIR is not supported either sadly. That’s probably going to keep me from playing it day one.
Yeah if that’s the case I’ll be holding off as well.
No 737...bold move...Or PMDG likely lobbied to have them not include one.
I’m stunned...
I only fly the 737 so I’m interested in seeing what options are available as I don’t really want to pay the prices PMDG is asking. Hopefully Zibo has something in mind.
We can only hope. But a high end 747-8 and 787-10 is kinda hot. But yeah, looks like I'll be flying their bus for a while.
I feel like I just took a match to the ~$100 I spent on X-Plane stuff over the past month
Hold up it releases in August??? Fuck me sideways. Has it been said if your able to play with shit garbage internet? Are we able to download areas of the world to fly in like X-Plane?
Yes to all of your questions, you can cache parts of the world.
Three! Colorado airports, wow. That's a lot of Colorado love, got the most airports of any state/country, pretty surprised.
Also I'm now considering buying the premium edition just to see that high res blucifer scrotum at DIA.
A bit disappointing there's only one UK airport (Heathrow), and that it's in the premium version
After release I still have two weeks of my summer vacation left. Time to clear my calendar! Imma gonna fly!
This was really a shock. I was almost sure release is going to happen near end of this year (November, December). Great news and can't wait to see and experience this sim myself!
I honestly feel like, even the premium edition, is a steal because if you were to make X-Plane look anywhere near as similar it would cost hundreds, maybe thousands
TNCM when
Damn! Billy Bishop but no Toronto Pearson!
got my premium!
I wish Alpha testers weren't under NDA. It would be nice to know if the current images we have been able to see from official releases are from the "Standard" or the "Premium" version of the game
The only difference is a few extra planes and a few high fidelity airports, so it will look identical (at leats outside of those 10 airports). I have the Alpha it looks amazing, but bear in mind MS have picked the best shots and scenaries. Depending on where you go in the world you can get some pretty blurry ground textures, and some questionable terrain mesh quality.
Have you flown to Heathrow.in the alpha though....is that heathrow the premium or standi
I just had a quick jaunt around Heathrow, the buildings are fairly generic, albeit well placed, and the control tower is the wrong colour, so I think it's standard.
Eh. Guess I'll have to dish out money for the premium to get the Dreamliner.
Other than the hefty price, I'm super stoaked, much earlier release than expected.
imo they are rushing it wayyyy to hard with the release. one month after beta they wanna release it??
Real players are the real testers.
Don't know how to feel about this tbh. I'm not sure what the alpha tests have been for but the NDA seems really strict and I won't be buying anything before the NDA is lifted. It does feel like they're just releasing the game because it would be pointless run the beta for months and give free access to the game to a lot of people. Kind of makes the beta pointless. I guess full release will be beta 2.0.
Kinda sad that the steam gauges 172 and the Baron 58 are in the deluxe edition and not standard
looking forward to it but I really need helicopters
TBH. Who on this subreddit is NOT going to buy the premium version? If you deny you just lying to yourself! The price is lower than a single PMDG payware aircraft!!
I’m a casual, I’m just here for the scenery and to see my own house. I’m buying the 60 dollar version
I'll buy the base. The extra planes dont really interest me, and neither do the extra airports...
As someone who isn't interested in paying the base game price for each additional payware plane... I'm probably going to be taking the Premium Deluxe edition since I am quite content with the level of detail MS are going for in this game. I know they're not comparable to the godlike stuff Pdmg puts out, but that's just not the experience I want.
Yea if you fly a bunch of planes or fly those specific airports it makes sense.
But i'll probably just keep flying the cessna and bouncing around the state of florida like i have for the last 15 years lol
Id rather pay more for high quality textures for the pyramids at giza or niagara falls or the Eiffel tower .. Thats more my interest than flying big jets.
Not super interested in "highly detailed" stuff that doesn't model systems like A2A and PMDG. I mean, I'm glad that they're supposed to be better than FSX defaults, but I'm not going to pay extra for something that's not quite what I enjoy.
not everyone is hardcore simmers. i can't wwait for it to come out, hyped since announcement. but i only paid $2 for FSX and didnt purchase a single addon. $60 seems to be kinda high already to me personally. I dont see myself spending extra for the deluxe or premium.
i am very disappointed that the original 172 (not g1000) is not included with the base game though. that would be the only thing that makes me consider the deluxe over base.
I won't be buying till vr is in.
As a newbie, what do ‘handcrafted airports’ mean exactly? I can still land at Narita for example, right?
There are a ton of airports available, yes. However, the (mostly) auto-generated ones may not be as accurate or have accurate taxiways names, etc.
I’m at work so I can’t check because it’s blocked. Is it on steam? I’m going to assume only the Microsoft store but I still have to ask. Either way super excited.
Now that we have a release date, I hope 3rd party scenery and aircraft dev announcements will follow in the coming weeks! :D
Launches on my birthday!
*Computer screams in distance*
Shut up and take my money!
Please can someone confirm why the download size is 20mb? Has to be a mistake right?
Awesome. I’m late to the party but preordered the premium deluxe immediately. Spent more than $120 on a few planes I have so to have all this content seems like a no brainer.
Pre ordered the premium deluxe version. I’ve been waiting for this for over a decade. So pumped.
Much much earlier than expected; I was totally thinking they'd kick the can down the alley with delays before arriving on an early 2021 release.
I still think they over-promised a bit about alpha participation (to put it lightly), so there's no fucking way I'd ever pre-order.
That was the fastest ~$130 I've ever spent
I’m curious about the quality of the airports which aren’t hand crafted.
The airports that are not hand-crafted will be auto-generated via Bing Map data.
Reddit fundamentally depends on the content provided to it for free by users, and the unpaid labor provided to it by moderators. It has additionally neglected accessibility for years, which it was only able to get away with thanks to the hard work of third party developers who made the platform accessible when Reddit itself was too preoccupied with its vanity NFT project.
With that in mind, the recent hostile and libelous behavior towards developers and the sheer incompetence and lack of awareness displayed in talks with moderators of r/Blind by Reddit leadership are absolutely inexcusable and have made it impossible to continue supporting the site.
– June 30, 2023.
Yeah. There haven’t been many screenshots of them
pretty sure that is intentional
Just to be sure, regardless of which level you choose they are still supporting add-on aircraft and scenery, right?
There is no reason they wouldn't. The base game is just that, the base game. Everything in the higher tiers are basically first party addons available from day 1
Holy shit, it releases so much sooner than I expected!
Edit: I hope that you can buy the upgrades later down the line, don't want to spend that much money for something I might not play that much initially.
