Ok so during the whole rite arc I was super content with us as WoL just being basically that one character in anime who's a walking army just tagging along with the kiddies for fun and just being a guard dog ready to step in if shit gets life threatning right. We on a vacation just vibing and being a bodyguard. I was excusing some of our inaction with "this is her story, her road to becoming a better person, her time to pull herself up by the bootstrap" right.

But then we got to the First Son invasion and Gulool Ja Ja duel. At first I was like yeah ok we get it, your honor duel, Father Vs. Son, very dramatic, have at it. But then after Zareel takes an L we just watch him come back to life, evidently power up thanks to whatever cheats he got from Cybertron, and just one shot Gulool?

And we all just watch this happen? There is 5 people capable of combat supported by a borderline demi-god and we just let him eat shit?.. Then Wuk Lamat goes "papa?.. *surprised pikachu*" and I'm just staring at the screen like "Well what the hell else did you think was gonna happen???". Like im sure that THIS WAS THE POINT where we step in surely??

Idk this was super jarring to me. Like I'd get it if we were busy fighting or SOMETHING but we were literaly just standing there 5 meters away from a murder happening and the most we did was post it on eorzealeak for some free clicks.

They could have literally just had our characters do something else. Make us do a solo duty where we fight two enemy captains solo while every else does their thing, and let us see what happens in a 'meanwhile in the palace' cutscene.

Instead, we get to sit there agape for no reason.

We should have been fighting in the streets. This expansion turned the Warrior of Light into a slack-jawed ninny who just watches civilians get gunned down.

The voice acting discussion is a distraction from how garbage the plot was.

Which is funny because putting us in that position would have been a teaching moment to Wuk Lamat that simply being strong does not guarantee everyone gets saved. Even if you can fight a whole army alone, you're still in one place.

The voice acting discussion is a distraction from how garbage the plot was.

Its moreso a compounding effect. One being bad is disappointing on its own, but when both are bad, its really grating.

I havent followed the VA discussion, is it about the english voice acting ?

'Cause I havent noticed anything particularly bad with the japanese one

I'm not one of the ones that hates her performance so I can't give their exact reasons. but from what I can tell, Wuk Lamar's English VA gives a very Shonen protagonist performance, and the reception for this has been mixed.

some people complain that it sounds like she's shouting in lower case, for example.

what complicates things is that she's also trans. so for a lot of people having a truly civil discussion about her performance is more complicated than it should be.

A shonen protagonist performance would be superior to this. Its just utterly lacking in emotion and inflection. It doesn't matter what's happening, she sounds like she's just having a conversation or shouting in lowercase letters. Its completely and utterly tone deaf and just ruins every single scene that she's in.

The writing itself isn't doing her any favours either. Across the board its just a horribly obnoxious character. The start of the MSQ gave me hesitation, but over time I found myself disliking her more and more. By the time I finished the final trial I genuinely hated the character; she just suddenly and unceremoniously ruins the finale.

I don’t think the voice acting discussion is a distraction, it’s simply two different factors of why a lot of people are disappointed with the MSQ

I think both problems are worth discussing so maybe some feedback can be given to the devs and maybe can be fixed for patch content

To be fair, we are a bit spent from going to the first and fighting a bunch of Ascians, and then going to the moon to fight the strongest primal (or at last tied with Hydaelyn) and then a quick hop to the edge of the universe fighting the literal end of the universe, and a fist fight with one of our only equals.
