I’ve got one on the way and really didn’t want to shell out an extra $300 for a wheel and pedal setup, especially when I don’t have a dedicated space for it so I’d have to take it apart after ever session. Does anyone use the Farmstick alone with standard keyboard controls? Is it still a valuable addition or am I going to regret not buying a wheel setup?
Does anyone use the Thrustmaster Farmstick paired with keyboard?
DiscussionI use farmstick on right hand and thrustmaster t16000 on left hand.dont get a steering wheel it’s just not as fun as you think it would be double joysticks is the way to go
I’m speaking from experience as I own the Logitech heavy equipment bundle and never use it
Now I hadn’t even thought of this.
Can you share how you use this setup, like are you using the HOTAS for movement/how do you have the buttons mapped etc
The farmstick has an analogy stick on it that I use for looking around.i use the left thruster for forward and backward and the farmstick for left right.when using any equipment with arms I tend to map it where the left thruster goes up down in or out and the farmstick for maneuvering left right rotating and open and close.the farmstick also has designated buttons for pipe in/out and some other stuff.other than that it’s a lot of playing for an hour and changing keybinds then repeat.took probably about 10 hours of gaming to get settled on everything all together.
Gotcha, that’s super helpful thank you. Any particular reason for having the Farmstick control left right instead of doing it all on the left? Just smoother?
So the thrustmaster shifters have 3 axis controls.meaning you can activate up and left or up and right at the same time.so it can be a little annoying when you just want to go forward and it’s going forward right bc you are slightly moved off the center.i find it smoother to have my controls alternated
Oh okay that makes a lot of sense, I appreciate your help, I ordered the other thrustmaster joystick as well.
You’ll love it man.i tried the steering wheel and pedals but I found having to use the pedals really makes it feel like an actual chore instead of a video game.i found myself wanting to play less because it took more energy and effort to do anything.with the joysticks i can still sit in my chair cris cross applesauce
Is there any kind of joystick control setup we can use on console? I have tried a few different pc stick but then disco reflex the Xbox can’t recognize them
I don’t believe so unfortunately.
Thank you for the reply, I didn’t think so and been trying to get funds for me and my oldest to build a gaming pc lol
I've tried out the Logitech heavy machinery panel and used a Logitech 3d pro after the heavy machinery panel. Definitely felt like i got more out of the button box part of the panel and joystick than their actual joysticks with a keyboard and mouse setup.
Outside of a wheel setup I found myself not using the joystick and just using kb&m since it's already pretty decent for controls. There's a couple niche things in game that work great with two joysticks but if it's something that requires only one joystick a mouse will probably go just as good of a job.
Im using farmstick with mouse and keyboard but only for logging. The standard mapping is sufficient. Considered buying a second one but with z-axis and multiplyer no need. U can controll any harvester with one stick. Only thing i dislike is the rough reaction of telescope arms using the orange switches.
I use a farm stick, wheel, and keyboard combo. The wheel is more of a bonus to me and you could totally do the farm stick and keyboard combo only. The buttons on the farm stick are useful to not have to be constantly moving around on the keyboard so you can concentrate on driving
Awesome thanks!
Might be worth manually assigning some buttons on the farm stick to suit how you want to play but most of the default ones work well. Enjoy farming!
Steering wheel is ultimate immersion.
I use wheel, Farmstick and side panel. It wouldn't feel right without a wheel IMO.
Which panel, out of curiosity?
Saitek/Logitech Heavy Equipment Panel.
Awesome, thanks. I'm assuming I'll just end up buying the Thrustmaster wheel setup as well, I really wish I had the room to just leave it permanently cause I feel like it'll be a pain in the ass to setup/breakdown every time I play. Any insight on that?
I leave mine setup all the time but I only really use my PC for gaming. I want to build a separate sim rig beside my PC but I got bills.
Not got one, but I imagine it would be decent. Personally using a wheel and a mouse on this game doesn't feel right for most things, I feel that the stick is What's missing.
