This Christian post summarizes everything wrong with Christianity
ImageThis is too real. I have so many friends from HS and college who have these hollow, artificial personalities from committing to being a good "Jesus follower". I am repelled by that type of restrained personality now as an Ex-Christian. I crave authentic relationships with authentic people.
That was the first thing pointing me to the door of this faith. The lack of authenticity and toxic positivity. It came off so Stepford Wivesish, whatever you said to them got you a few canned phrases like God is in control, praise Jesus in the storm, etc. ad nauseam. I started looking at people in my ex-church and thinking if I cut you, would you bleed?
What you've said reminds me of the 1970s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In that movie an alien plant life form appears, is adopted as house plants, and people get turned into replicants. I'm sure it was an allegory for the mind control cults at the time and it equally applies to Christianity come to think of it. 🤔
It interferes with the church's plans for you. Er, I mean God's plans for you!
Miserable, frightened people pay their tithes and do as they're told.
Clinging to guns and religion
And constantly trying to recruit people into their cult, I mean true Christian church TM
It interferes w/the patriarchy and tithing.
They epitomize the phrase "you can't respect others unless you respect yourself first". They don't see themselves as people, so no fucking wonder they don't see anyone else as people either.
Well articulated.
Fuck the phrase "JOY!"... and especially as a woman! That word was sooo weaponized in the more evangelical churches I attended when I went through my protestant phrase. For those who don't know. Jesus, Others, and THEN yourself!
That word was sooo weaponized in the more evangelical churches I attended when I went through my protestant phrase.
Toxic positivity is a prominent feature in evangelical culture. Especially amongst evangelical women.
In my ex church I found that 2 women, one called Joy and the other Hope, were honestly the most vile human beings I've ever met in my life.
... "Count it all joy" 😖
Not just that, but throw your ability to judge events in history in the trash can.
Christians treat the Bible as if a documentary crew was following Jesus around his whole life and transcribing everything he said and did. To say “Jesus never said X” or “Jesus never did Y” is so absurd that it’s almost not even worth taking seriously the point being made based on that alone.
We might as well say Jesus never took a shit.
If he did, there would certainly be a holy corprolite (turd) of the saviour and a Medieval European church building dedicated to it 😁
There are actually debates about that. I read somewhere that some priests believe that he did not dump. But, if he didn't, he couldn't be "fully" human and fully God now could he?
I LOVE to remind them that Jesus hung out with prostitutes!
Yeah, I looked at this and instantly got reminded the indoctrination stuff we were forced on as a kid. It's wild to see this kind of material once you're out of it. It felt so deep and meaningful back then.
Which I did quite successfully for about three years. Then I was depressed and nearly suicidal for four years because the empty husk of my soul couldn't withstand the weight of life's hardships. I emptied my soul out to the Lord, and instead of filling me up as is promised, he crushed me under his heel like a soda can.
Damn, that was depressing just reading that 😂 Much love
Facts
The last one always gets me because it's like they don't think Christianity should make them happy. I mean, obviously they probably say it from a "everyone just wants to drugs, but Jesus is the only REAL way to be happy" false dichotomy. But taken to its logical endpoint, sounds like they shouldn't be too sure about being happy in heaven. Just praising God while he wipes away the tears streaming down their face due to the poor life decisions they made.
The last one always gets me because it's like they don't think Christianity should make them happy.
They are, en masse, severely allergic to introspection. So, their moments of clarity and what could be vaguely quantified as self-awareness occurs incidentally. I've seen quite a few believers make posts where they outright say "you can either be happy or you can be Christian". I had to double check and see who posted it and see if it was someone deconstructing/deconverting who posted that. But, no, it's been outright believers who have said that. Holy fucking shit, what a moment of clarity that, very likely, will amount to nothing for them. They revealed so much more than they meant to, I think.
And then they drink and do drugs and rape because they know deep down they don't actually believe any of the bullshit they preach, so they better go out having as much fun as possible in case all that Heaven stuff is a load of hooey!
Love it!
And the 'fact' that their relatives are burning in their imaginary hell.
Nah they have mental gymnastics for that shit. "They're saved they're only sleeping!"
Unless they think they died unsaved.
"Do anything you want, as long as it exactly conforms to this man-made religion designed in part to control and manipulate others."
Love this
And yet liberal Christians often completely ignore their own books
Liberal Christianity is a vague attempt of trying to have the best of both worlds, of knowing where reality lies but fearing taking the plunge out of their system.
Sometimes it's just a compromise to keep a family together or some such. Not defending it but sometimes it's that.
Well yes, sometimes survival kicks in.
Navigating this in my own family at the moment. But I don't even want to go anywhere. Maybe a UU congregation.
True. All churches draw from the same poisoned well..
^
Ultimate gaslighting relationship is what Christianity is...
Literally demanding you be a slave to him. Nah rather be a free individual
Don't worry, it's completely optional! God isn't a dictator or anything. That said, you WILL have to spend an eternity being burned alive, so...
Such a "loving" god :3
But Ecclesiastes 9 says the dead know (are conscious of) nothing, so which is it?
Also why not just make creation and allow them to enjoy life. Why offer them an ultimatum - accept me as an authoritiarian figure and obey, or reject me and suffer as a consequence? Why not just let us do what we want. The only rule that makes sense to me is to not harm others. Or as Jesus puts it 'do to others as you would like to be done to you'... why does it need to go beyond that?

This is what messes people up psychologically.
I mean, these are all true statements and that's exactly why I am no longer a Christian. These people say these things like they aren't completely unhinged statements.
Yep. I'm glad I walked away from this religion in my early adolescence. ( I never wasted much time on it...)
Add this one :
Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life John 12:25
The only time I really hated my life was when I was a Christian.
that one is wild. had to look at it for myself to see what the kjv version used for the word hate! (its hateth lol).... geez. trynna be well with my soul on that one. "hate my life, and i get eternal life". make it make sense! contradicts everything
Beyond the obvious psychological harm, there's something else here.
I find it sad how Christians constantly compare themselves to the larger culture and feel the need to piss on everyone else just to lift themselves up.
They are supposed to be meek and humble, but they always come off as obnoxious and boasting.
I attended a church that would, about every quarter, have a message or whatever you call their speech about how Xtianity is superior to every other belief system. I cannot believe I tolerated any of this.
Most churches I attended explicitly taught it and said something along the lines every Sunday.
Evangelicals are a tolerant bunch. /s
OMG I never caught onto that! It makes sense!!
“And truELY, I say UNTO You, ConVENtions oN CAPiTalIzation ARt UnHOLY”
May Spes, the Goddess of hope, be ever by your side.
Basically a cult and cult leader.
They got that from some internet meme. I used to hear that exact bullshit in the 80s.
This was a post I copy pasta'd from Facebook.
Yea, nah.
The fact that people expect children to become serious faithful followers at such a young age is astounding to me. I feel like part of my childhood was ripped away from me on account of horseshit like this.
Everything being a “sin” unless it “glorifies god” was the first strike against the cult in my memory.
Also he avoided the slavery issue. And one of his disciples said that slaves should obey their masters.
Compliant surrender; aka narcissistic abuse.
“You have free will.”
“No, not like that!”
So basically
What your heart wants means jack shit
Hide who you really are
Don’t believe in yourself, believe in an old book instead
Your experience means nothing
Fuck your happiness
No wonder I grew to hate myself…
Yet again Christians doing their best to make Jesus seem like a Jerk, seemingly without realizing it.
Well the notebook scrawlings are right. Jesus was a jerk and at least a cult leader. We need to stop letting people whitewash him.
I do enjoy when people trot out CS Lewis and his trilemma "Lunatic, Liar, Lord" without even understanding that point of that statement (If you think Jesus was wise but not God, you're wrong. Which is itself problematic). I can point out he might well have been a lying lunatic but the only even close to contemporary writings we have about him with any detail come from members of the fan club so it's not exactly unbiased.
We don't have video recordings of Jesus, we don't have historical writing even alluding to his life in any detail from the first century. We have carefully constructed narratives from people who believed he was divine written 40+ years after he died and 7 letters from a guy who saw him in a dream once.
Crazy that this looks exactly like my father's writing. I had to double check it wasn't his Bible that just donated when I moved abroad
"You are nothing. You are worthless in the face of God. Being happy is inherently sinful and indulging in what life has to give you is despicable."
Self esteem not allowed.
Everyday I’m so thankful that I left the church and abandoned this ideology. I’ve never felt more free and authentically myself. I gained so much clarity when I left Christianity. So much clarity and peace.
Jesus also said Is it not written that ye are all gods.
Right? Sounds like kind of a dick tbh
And here's me thinking religion is about control, what was I thinking... /s
Fucked UP TO THE MAX
"Wow, he sounds like a huge dick. No wonder he got himself killed."
Also things Jesus didn't say: Hate gay people Abortion is sinful Commit genocide against Muslims Pull yourself up by your bootstraps If people are poor it's their fault for being lazy
Jesus did not say? There is a fuckload he did not say that he should have said. A lot could have been cleared up had he commented on a just a few items. But, NOPE!
“Follow your heart” and “follow me” are both wrong. Be smart. Follow your head instead.
Yep, make you feel like you are going to he'll so that only he can fix you, then you are afraid to do anything else. Really primitive and you can tell it was designed when shit was bad.
It's basically, don't be who you are, be someone you're not.
This is why gay Christians and SSA Christians have a difficult time in Christianity; another reason is that most churches teach that being gay is a serious sin and Paul backs them up - Romans 1:26-27 and his two other clobber verses. Once people in the churches realize that that's just Paul's opinion the teaching will start to lose its force without scholars having to bend themselves into knots to rationalize the verses away.
Wow. Yes. It’s sad, because many good hearted people selflessly give up their happiness because they don’t think they deserve it. And it also gets weaponized against those who do want to live their authentic, happy lives.
Do believe in yourself. Because you will actually show up and put in the work if you want.
Do pursue your own happiness. Life is too short to waste it miserable.
6)" The kingdom of God has come, well not actually, the real, real kingdom comes after you die. And you probably won't make it because you'll be burning in hell"
thanks to this i have bpd and ocd! never trusting myself to be a person capable of anything good without god really did its job 🙏🏻
Being miserable and dependent on an external entity is the cornerstone of Xtianity.
Ah yes keep yourself down so you have to lean on the church to survive. Because you are NOTHING without god and paying your tithes. Manipulation at its finest
I don't think so, at all. This post feels off to me...and way too literal leaning.
I get it, we're human, we're prone to making mistakes. But relying on Jesus... all the time? That's NOT the same as going to Jesus from time to time when we're unsure or when we messed up.
So basically not be human 💀
It's cringe that's it fuck these people. I hate this shit I had no problem leaving this shit. I not only left because a pastor tried to make a move on me as a kid but because I hate there god who is no one's cupcake sweet and innocent he's a monster fiction or what ever I'm no one's servant and no one should feel like that. We gain closer to election, and Christian Nationalism gains closer they say Trump isn't a Jesus return he's everything Jesus was a liar, a conman, a scumbag and that's all there needs to be. The bible has been tampered with many times who knows what they tried to remove from these books to keep this monstrosity happening. I truly believe there will be a civil war soon. This country is in shambles over this religious bullshit and it's getting worse each day. More inhumane laws are passed each day. I am fed up how an ancient doctrine of bullshit can take our freedoms away. This channel of all of you every day gives me hope and Harmonic Atheist on youtube I love every one of you. You're all helping me get through each day we must protect our sub no matter what we have very little free speech left. Fight against this to the bone we are all d doing our part.
Jesus: “Sell everything you have and donate the proceedings to the poor.”
Modern Pastors: “God wants you to be rich!”
Wow, no wonder I used to hate myself so much
The snake in the garden knew it was all a sham. Ssssneaky Ssssnake.
Ultimately I believe in humanity and what is good versus harmful to humanity. There are so many ways in which that type of thinking is harmful to humans personally and humanity as a whole . So any god that cares more for his own worship versus what is good for humans is not one I want to worship and can no longer even believe in
Christianity is a self-loathing cult that blames people first.
This post doesn't summarize Christianity at all. Christianity is an umbrella of religions that have Faith in the same God.Faith First then Faith Works. To judge an entire group of people based on the few, shows true ignorance. If you don't want to believe, that's on you. You have more to lose by not believing. If you're right worst case scenario you're a good person.
What scares me is that they aren't people anymore... some of them at least. Just robots....
Pretty much throw your personhood in the trashcan.
