A bullish engulfing pattern occurs when a small black candlestick is followed the next day by a large white candlestick, whose body completely engulfs the body of the previous day’s candlestick.

These patterns are more likely to indicate a reversal if they follow four or more consecutive black candlesticks.

Investors should consider not just the two candlesticks that create the bullish engulfing pattern, but also the candlesticks that came before it.
