getting a lap done by an OON highly recommended (nancy’s nook) surgeon vs in network sorta ok surgeon?
Surgery relatedIs there any way to search for others in your area covered by your insurance that others have had successful excisions with? That’s kinda the same situation I’m in right now but i set up a FB account just to join the local endo group and found other surgeons that others have had good luck with that takes my insurance. I’m now just waiting to see if my Dr will send the referral.
Nancy's Nook is extremely problematic. Being on this doesn't automatically make them good.
You'll want someone who is MIGS certified. Have you had a discussion with the in network surgeon about their understanding of the disease? How often do they perform endo surgeries vs other general work? It's possible they actually do specialise in endo despite not being on that list.
I recommend asking questions to determine if they know endo has different colour presentations, whether they will take biopsies of seemingly clear spots to check for microscopic Endometriosis, whether they have a general understanding of the disease at all, what they generally recommend as follow up treatment after surgery, etc
Those kinds of questions should help you to find out if they seem qualified to perform endo surgery (esp the MIGS).
I recommend searching the sub for some of the criticisms of Nancy's Nook so that you kinda get where I'm coming from. Some people have been absolutely butchered by her surgeons and get their feedback deleted by her so it doesn't tarnish her choices. None of my surgeons were Nook surgeons afaik but one is known across the medical community in the whole city as the endo expert (and basically only does endo surgery), and another literally helped write the treatments guidelines for the health body that oversees treatment in my country. They were both extremely skilled.
i really appreciate you adding these questions!! this was extremely helpful tysm
I’d highly recommend the out of network specialist. Not sure where you’re located, but you can potentially submit paperwork to your insurance company to get an exception granted so that you can pay “in network” price. I did this and mine was approved! It was totally worth it in my opinion. Don’t waste your time going to an okay doctor when you can see a specialist
