- It's pretty accepted that climate change caused by an asteroid impact AND a volcanic eruption AND general climate shifting killed off the dinosaurs.

3.5 you might say love replaced the dinosaurs since clades capable of displaying affection for their mates and offspring survived and proliferated while actual “terrible lizards” lost out long before all those extinction level events. Then the small feathery theropods made it through.

Fossils of Maiasaurus (good mother lizard) nests had evidence that the babies stayed in the nest after hatching and were cared for by their parents.
I don't think Thomas knows much about dinosaurs, beyond 'Harry raised a zombie tyrannosaur once' and watching Jurassic Park with Harry and not paying a whole lot of attention.
As someone with pretty rudimentary knowledge of the subject (but I did study evolutionary biology in undergrad, so I'm not completely ignorant), I don't think there's any evidence to support it. Dinosaurs probably had pretty complex social structures and cared for their young, judging by nest structures we've found. It's fair to assume they were at least as social as the only modern dinosaurs, birds, which are obviously known for caring for their young. Just because they don't nurse their young with milk like mammals doesn't mean they aren't capable of caring for each other.
Now, what you'd like to constitute as "love" among animals is entirely up to you, especially since in English the word means like 20 different things.
I think it’s also worth noting that dinosaurs were around for tens of million years, we as humans have a couple hundred thousand. We didn’t put survive them, our ancient ancestors just weren’t big enough to be effected the same way they were when the world went crazy. They survived far more extinction events than we have.

Without the context of the body text, my mind immediately went to a time traveling Knight of the Cross fighting dinosaurs with Amoracchius.

My understanding is that, after dinosaurs had been dealt some serious blows by asteroids and whatnot, that mammals were then able to ascend, dominance-wise, partly because they were more nurturing of their young. I have no clue about the veracity of that, but it's what I think Thomas was referring to; love let the mammals beat the lizards.
There are plenty of lizards and snakes that don't care for their young. But then, there are plenty of birds, which are the surviving descendants of certain branches of dinosaurs, that engage in parental behavior.
I think the point of the story was more important than its literal truth.
The lack of love maybe. Were dinosaurs smart enough to communicate between species and cooperate to survive the climate changes? Possibly. If they were, without love they may not have had the motivation to act.
That so many mammals communicate and work together shows it can absolutely be a benefit to survival. That birds (which are dinosaurs) and squid also work together and communicate say that it's not just us. Primates have been around for 55M years, dinosaurs chilled for 165M years. It seems likely that at least some of them would evolve that same survival trait of community and care for each other.
I don't think that by Kill he meant extinct. I think he's referring to the fact that mammals outcompeted them in the race back to the top.
Mammals are a successful group because they care for their young. But that's not the only useful survival strategy. Dinosaurs were highly successful for hundreds of millions of years before they were killed by rapid climate change. The age of mammals has only been 65 million years so far. They existed before that but they only became successful when the dinosaurs were wiped out.
