This is my biggest clothing project I've done so far. It started with making yellow swimsuit cover up and then my friend told me about the Renaissance fair with about a months notice.... Things bloomed from there 🌼🌻🌼🌻 links and breakdown of my process in the comments spoiler: I accidentally wrote a mini dissertation 😅
I made my entire renaissance fair outfit 🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻
Finished Object1970s Renaissance, yep
1790s Renaissance, not so much
In fairness, that's about as accurate as most Renaissance Fair outfits I've seen. I'm never sure what a 12th century medieval English peasant with fairy wings has to do with 17th century Italy.
I’ve always wondered why it’s called a ren fair and not a “DND fair” or “fantasy fair”.
Hey, thanks. I really did.

This looks so sixties/seventies to me but also like… ren faires are not exactly historically accurate lmao. Looks so good on you, and so well made!
I get hippie flower child and not Ren Fest garb.
That's fair, in the future I'd like to add wings and other accessories to give more of a fae vibe, but this is what I came up with in the time I had to prepare. To me anything that makes me feel magical is appropriate for the renn fair ☺️
As a regular for ren fairs, as long as you are having fun that is what matters. Your outfit is beautiful! Just remember some sun screen as it can be very hot depending on the fair! 😊
Those are tan lines that start a conversation, though.
I think you and your outfit look gorgeous. Also fairy wings are supposed to be easy to make with some wires and tights, be sure to look up some tutorials. You could make them look like leaves then you’d look like a flower fae.
I whole heartedly agree! As long as you’re enjoying yourself and YOU feel magical, I’d say it is entirely appropriate as Ren Fair attire. I think it looks absolutely STUNNING. You look like a garden fairy
It's very cute and a good jumping off point for fae vibes. Enjoy the fair, can't wait to go to my state's Ren fest in September :)
It's not renaissance aesthetic but I think renaissance faire aesthetic can be almost anything that is fun
Fun fact, Ren Faire as we know it today started during the hippie era. https://www.kcrw.com/culture/articles/leftists-weirdies-and-the-political-roots-of-the-renaissance-faire
Most Ren Faire costumes are wildly inaccurate anyway.
You're reading into their comment too much and need to take a step back. The comment you replied to is not negative, does not "yuck" on OP's "yum" at all. Literally it only said what it looked like to them. Considering it is something labeled/titled as being "for a renaissance fair" it's not out of the norm for someone to comment on how "renaissance" the piece is. You brought negativity where there was none.
Lol thanks for the back-up. I quite enjoy OPs creation. Some people just want this sub to be a circle-jerk of praise with no other opinions allowed
Whether or not it’s normal to comment on how “on theme” a creation is for an event doesn’t take away that it’s impolite to do. Maybe this commenter isn’t yucking OP’s yum, but it’s still uncalled for. This is a crochet subreddit, shouldn’t the point of sharing work here be to show something you’re proud of and receive feedback on the project itself, not the context in which it’s presented?
What you seem to be misunderstanding is that the comment they made is feedback. Seriously take a step back and think. Go work on a project and don't come back unless you can lose your negativity. You're bringing the wrong vibe to the party.
the comment they made is feedback
receive feedback on the project itself, not the context in which it’s presented
reading comprehension would go a long way.
Go touch grass. Seriously. Get offline. Go outside. Talk to a human in person.
um anyway you fuckin ATE that, lemon fae!!!!
Literally! Wear whatever the hell you want babe and there’s nothing more Ren that hand making your own clothes
🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋
This is soooooo cute!!!!!
It looks great, but I don't see how it relates to the Renaissance fair
Same. It's so cute on its own but I'm not really getting renaissance fair with the leggings more raver/hippie chick. I love the renaissance fair and think you should be able to wear whatever you want and she'd be just fine and dandy wearing this but just doesn't fit the theme. Just a beautiful piece on a beautiful girl.
Exactly my thought process
Very cute Go-Go vibes like the 60's.
Duuuude you're so talented! This is awesome
Woodstock?
I had a 6-in-1 pattern and a dream. First I made the dress through a lot of trial and error as I didn't do the dress included in the pattern set. I used the lace stitch from the pattern and I started with making a front and back panel then decided to make a single panel with a seam in the back. Then some trial and error with the different increase techniques I pulled from the pattern set. I also started with a lower waist and fewer increases for the skirt portion then decided raise the waist and do increases between every row of shells. For the straps I did a round of single crochet on the top with the straps coming off the top as long strings with loops coming off the back to run the straps through and tie in the back to make the strap length adjustable. The bolero instructions are included in the pattern set, and the flares are pulled from the sleeve section of the pattern set For the purse I made an oval then built the lace stitch up from that base. At the top I did a few rows of single crochet and left and opening on each side for the strap which was one long chain of shells that was joined to make a continuous loop so I can wear it doubled up as a shoulder bag or just use one strap as a crossbody The headband and rose choker are both wonder netting tutorials, love her she has so many cute step by step tutorials I want to try in the future Then I wore a nude sports bra and nude antichafe shorts for a neutral base layer
The yarn was lion brand coboo yarn in yellow, some of it is their cotton yarn and some is bamboo/rayon yarn because I ordered half the yarn from Amazon after my local Joann's ran out of the color I needed, most of the outfit is made with a 4mm hook but some I sized down to a 3.5mm or 3mm.

Self-made! Cool!
Did they wear this during the renaissance? lol.
Either way, lovely craftsmanship! Have fun! :)
Cool!

ummmmmm this is toooo amazing you are obviously actually a fairy you can’t trick me!!!🥰
I swear I can be trusted with the full names of humans who wander into the woods alone and you certainly won't regret accepting a gift of food or drink from me 🧚♀️✨😌
Just get a job as a barista - you'll get so many names, and they'll eat and drink whatever you give them!
I am in LOVE. What a beautiful color. Your mesh is so delicate. Everything is so consistent. Amazing work. (Ps I think you totally are appropriate for a ren faire. I agree fairy wings would be dope, but you look awesome without too)
Thank you so much 🥹🥹🥹🥹
I ❤️ it!
I didn't have time to make wings guys 🥲 I just wanted to share a project that I worked rly hard on labeled it by what I wore it to because the outfit made me feel like a fairy and I made a headband with butterfly wings that reminded me of fae ears I don't mean to be sensitive but I'm really not asking for critique on how renaissance it is, I've done the big dress and prosthetic ears and I love that I just wanted to try something different and use my crochet skills and the particular pattern pack I had 🫠😢🥺😓😥
You immediately make me think of a flower fae!! Like you popped out of that field of flowers behind you 🥰 this is incredible!!
You did amazing, and you remind me of a sunshine fairy 🫶❤️ the spirit of renaissance fairs is to have fun and to dress with whimsy, which this outfit completely does. Please don’t let others get you down and be prepared for all the compliments you’re about to get at the fair! 🥰🥰
Thank you so much I really needed to hear that 💛💛💛💛
Like a sunbeam 💫

how long it took you to make all those? U LOOOOKKK FABULOUS!!!
Thank you! It took me a month, over time I'd like to add more to the outfit to make it more colorful and more fairy like
Why they are called Ren fairs as they are fantasy fairs?
Also yellow clothing on renaissance would....well. you go and work girl.
You are absolutely glowing in these pics! Congratulations on the amazing outfit 🥰
i'm not sure why there are so many people commenting that this isn't renaissance garb/aesthetic, plenty of people go to ren faires in regular clothes lmao. this outfit is ADORABLE, you look so cute in it, and you did an amazing job!!! <3
Thank you thank you thank you kind soul 🥹💛🥹💛🥹💛🥹💛

So bright and cheery! It's really cute. Loved the flower embellishments.
And it wasn't embroidered, but your earrings are really cute too, and are a great addition.
Fantastic work, you should be proud!
Thank you so much!! 💛💛💛💛💛
The color, the styling, the photos….SO PRECIOUS!!!! This is seriously so cute and you should be proud :-) if I had the patience I’d try to make this for myself lol but for now I’ll just admire yours.
Thank you so much that means a lot to me 🥹💛🥹💛🥹💛
Fabulous. And the photoshoot is perfect
How cute!!
I'm hardly a renfaire old-timer, I've attended three in Texas mostly in the last 14 years, two of them for their entire 8 weekend seasons the last 8-10 years. The oldest is having its 50th season this fall, so like I said - I'm almost a noobie! If I saw you, I'd gush over you. You will see people in all kinds of garb, everything from muggles/ mundane, to chain maille bikinis, kilted storm troopers, full court gowns, fae, steampunk ... all of it. But, you made this? Amazing! Faire is so much more fun when you dress up! Wear your garb with pride, and have a blast! You look amazing!
Even with a fairy vibe it wouldnt have anything to do with a ren fair, but sure.
girl have you ever been to one??? lmao
LOL I wore this to the fair last weekend and got tons of compliments, actually a lot more compliments than the other fairs I've been to where I did a more classic princess look. But thank you for your feedback and I hope you have the day you deserve ☺️
Absolutely gorgeous work, and I immediately got sunshine fae vibes without looking at your comments. Definitely suitable for the fantasy themes at a Ren fair imo :)
Thank you so much 🥰🧚♀️✨🥹
I see some people didn't think this was appropriate ren fair attire but at least the queen liked my outfit 😇
Love to see people gatekeeping what someone can wear to the renn fair.
Insane.
