Why does this matter? Revelation 17:4, speaking of Mystery Babylon, personified as a whore: "The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries."

If John intended to describe the color blue, he would have had to use the word 'πορφυροῦν,' meaning purple, as there was no separate word for blue at that time. Blue was simply lumped in with purple. You will find no mentions of the color blue in the New Testament for this very reason, but several mentions of the color purple.

We can speculate, then, that John could have meant the woman was dressed in blue and scarlet, but simply didn't have the language to describe blue as we perceive it now. This would align well with the interpretation of Mystery Babylon as the United States of America.
