We all know don't we? That there's something deeply wrong with society. We discuss it in forums like these. We talk about it with friends, and like minded individuals. We all talk about it like we're going to do something about it, but never do. No one does a thing. We continue to fuel the system. Going to work everyday so that we can support ourselves in the spirit of comfort and survival. We buy endless things with paper and the time spent acquiring it. Maybe we're all waiting for something or someone to set off a spark of change? Maybe theres nothing we can do at all. Or maybe no one really gives a shit, but we all like to complain about it. I guess it doesn't really matter does it? We all die someday, and it'll end.
I still think that a lot of people have it good enough and in so wont/don't want to think about this stuff. And i get that. People with a reasonable job/paycheck, children, a roof over their head, oblivious, just living life. Come one day they lose their jobs to AI, forced out of their homes to go and live in 15 minute 'smart-cities' obeying in fear of losing social credit points.. But by then it'll be to late to revolt. The majority of people don't want to know, till the day they do...
Yeah there's a story about a guy who wanted to write a book about how the subprime mortgage market was going to collapse in 2006, but nobody wanted to publish it bc "nobody wants to leave in the middle of the party." I think that explains a lot and it's really sad
Frogs whilst being cooked slowly.
This is exactly my thoughts.
To stand up is to face possible persecution. We've allowed ourselves to be enslaved by the false idea that we won't be able to feed or clothe our families if we speak truth.
And yes, it will be too late for those who decide to be oblivious.
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain, but you’ve felt it. You’ve felt it your entire life, you don’t know what it is but it’s there like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad
(Leonard Cohen knew)
comfort is one helluva drug my friend.
The only way is a massive strike.
A world strike would definitely let people know how powerful they really are.
I travel all over the U.S. and one thing that strikes me recently is that we don't really have a culture anymore.
Meaning, there isn't even a general set of shared principles or unifying common beliefs that can be easily identified.
It's just grey, vague, empty, barren.
Of course, much of "American culture" has always been fake or inflated, but this has accelerated x100 in the last five to ten years.
Almost nothing that we used to consider American culture -- with its good and bad sides -- is around anymore.
Whatever was left of "individual freedom and liberty" concepts were totally extinguished during COVID, when people realized they didn't actually have any special power if the government decides to actually issue orders. (It was largely a myth anyway but now it's completely dismantled.)
Other than widespread gun ownership, I cannot clearly name how America is particularly more "free" than any other modern country, and I've lived outside the U.S. for several years as personal experience.
This is particularly striking when you travel to other countries such as in Latin America, where a shared culture is common and celebrated and life seems vibrant. (But they're not "diverse.")
I don't know where American society goes next from here but it's probably not great.
We can pass out flyers exposing the system
What are you gonna do, build a new system?
He doesn't know. But I love his honesty and that fact that he knows his apathy is part of the problem is a great start in solving the problem.
I would argue that the system is created and supported by currency, so that the only way a change caused by the people could come about would be one of two ways...
1 - we take away the power that we've given to money by stopping/reducing consuming (for a day, a week, idfk?)
2 - an individual or group with a comparable amount of money to the opposition (that has not let it become a false idol) finds a way to break it up from the inside.
Violence is no more the answer than complacency.
As an example: "our government is fucked up! They invade countries and overthrow governments using military tactics in order to plunder resources and control agendas!" And then we go "invade" the government buildings using military tactics to plunder resources and control agendas.
That certainly doesn't sound like hypocrisy and a certain fall back into the same ol' cycle as before...
Yeah at this point we know where it's headed but do nothing I agree with what you're saying. The evil ones out there just continue their march with is in tow.
It’s funny how relevant this speech, and really this whole movie, is today. Practically a prediction of the 2020s
We were given this world, didn’t make it. That being said, do your best and have faith
On a long enough timeline nothing actually matters. I just hope if we get hit by an asteroid or comet in my lifetime that I'm outside to watch the show.
