Non-physicalists, what do you think consciousness could be?

Theoretically a Gaian hive mind would take millennia to develop and there’s no reason to think the individual aspects of it would have any awareness of the greater whole.

Meaning we could simply be the neurons of an immature sentience, being only partially aware of our individual contributions to the developing cerebral matrix.

Purely speculation of course, but it’s a cool idea.
