Greendale never had a Pierce Hologram, Pierce BECAME a hologramFan Theory

Pierce already stated his intention to be a hologram on Jeff's deathbed, and he expects his mother to return.
It's not clear exactly when Pierce dies, and he's not in regular contact with The Study Group or anyone else at Greendale.

Therefore, I propose that Pierce died before or during Season 5 Episode 1, and it is actually Pierce visiting Jeff to give advice. Of course, Pierce can't reveal this to Jeff, so he pretends to be a recording.

Please tell me why I'm wrong.

On my ten millionth rewatchEaster-Egg/Trivia

I noticed that, in Intro to Political Science (the student government episode), when Jeff is gesturing to the audience to acknowledge different people, there isn’t anyone there — he made them up

I feel really dumb because the people in the areas to which he’s gesturing are looking around confused but I always thought they were just trying to identify the person Jeff is referencing. But no they’re like wtf is he talking about

Sorry I know that’s neither an Easter egg nor trivia but I wasn’t sure how else to tag it.

Also the image of Troy keeping track of his notches keeps popping into my head and I laugh every time

Rewatching again and I'm so sad the Professor Kane/Jeff mentorship didn't go furtherDiscussion

There were at least two instances of Jeff quoting Kane word-for-word, seemingly without realizing it, and I would've absolutely loved to see him teach Jeff to live more in the moment and appreciate what he has. He might've "softened that winger underbewwy" for real.

Anyone else wish they'd gotten to see that develop more?

Why was Abed happy when he looked at Troys desk and he wasn't there?Discussion

In season 1 episode 24, Abed said the best 10 seconds of his day is when he looks at Troys desk and he is not there. I know he said it's a movie reference, but before that I thought theres gonna be a hidden meaning behind it because Troy and Abed always get along. After Abed said it's from a movie, I expected an explanation but Troy just said he could never be mad at Abed and, I still don't know what reference that was.

Saturday Night LiveDiscussion

With the movie being released on Peacock, it could be possible that someone from the cast hosts Saturday Night Live to promote it. Who would you like to see host? Who do you think would be the most likely to host?

The Emmys that never came... let's play a game!Discussion

Only three shows in the history of the Emmy Awards have won all 7 major categories for their respective genres: Angels in America for Limited Series, The Crown for Drama Series, and Schitt's Creek for Comedy Series. These categories are Outstanding Limited/Comedy/Drama Series, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actress.

As you know, Community was criminally overlooked by the Television Academy and only managed to win one Emmy in 2012 for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas. However, the show did manage to get its only above-the-line nomination that same year, when Chris McKenna got a nod for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Remedial Chaos Theory, ultimately losing to Louis C.K. for Louie.

Now, let's imagine for a second that Community belongs in that group of shows that won all 7 major categories for a single season. What season would that've been? What episodes would've won each award? Essentially we have to choose 6 episodes for Comedy Series (the Television Academy demands each show to submit at least 6 for consideration), one for Directing, one for Writing, and then the episode each actor would've elected to submit after getting their nomination.

To my understanding, the cast of Community always submitted themselves in the Supporting categories, with the exception of Joel McHale, who always went as Lead. To fill all 7 major categories, let's assume one of the girls submitted herself as Lead for a particular season and select an episode where she is the Lead Actress.

So here is my list:

Season 3

  • Outstanding Comedy Series (Remedial Chaos Theory, Documentary Filmmaking: Redux, Pillows and Blankets, Basic Lupine Urology, Curriculum Unavailable & Digital Estate Planning)
  • Outstanding Directing: Rob Schrab for Basic Lupine Urology
  • Outstanding Writing: Chris McKenna for Remedial Chaos Theory
  • Outstanding Lead Actor: Joel McHale (Documentary Filmmaking: Redux)
  • Outstanding Lead Actress: Alison Brie (Geography of Global Conflict)
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor: Danny Pudi (Virtual Systems Analysis)
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress: Gillian Jacobs (Digital Exploration of Interior Design)

You can repeat episodes as it is fairly common for the Television Academy to reward a single episode for multiple categories.

I actually agree with Troy "There was an episode of Happy Days where a guy literally jumps over a shark, and it was the best one!"Low Relevance

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark

Loved that line when I first heard it, because I remember at the time finding Happy Days so boring that I thought jumping over a shark could literally only be an improvement.

That being said, I do find it ironic to refer to Happy Days because the fonzie was always shown to be "the cool guy" so I just thought that was a natural extension of the character. And incidentally Happy Days actually went on for like, an additional 6 seasons (more than the 5 seasons it took to introduce the shark jumping episode) so I always thought that was funny too, clearly it seems the show didn't "exhaust its core intent and introducing new ideas that are discordant with, or an extreme exaggeration of, its original purpose" if the show still had 6 more seasons of material.

Question for commentary nerds like me. I think I lost a version.Find an Episode/Quote/Etc

So, I had the show in numerous formats, resolutions and iterations and I seem to have lost one version I wish I had. There are some episodes where a scene is cut a little different between the broadcast vs the dvd vs the blu-ray. So I have the commentary audio track and in a few episodes, the cut is unfortunately worse than the broadcast version because they sliced away better moments in favor of - I don’t know maybe more “nice”. In any event, so I’m listening to the commentary and during some of the aforementioned scenes, I distinctly remember watching that previously also with commentary and they had actually talked about the bits that were cut from this version. I suspect the commentary was originally made for dvd which is how they refer to it in their dialogue. When the Blu-ray came around I think they did those dreadful re-cuts, and I suspect they just chopped at the commentary audio to make it match as best they could.

A couple of examples: In episode 1x04 Social Psychology, there’s a scene when Annie first approaches Duncan in the cafeteria asking to be part of his special lab on the Duncan Principle. So Duncan being Duncan, he says “okay I’ve actually been in this situation and I just need to start off by saying: I don’t date students…” and here’s the fork: in the original, he continues “even though you’re an eight! Which is a British ten! Aaagh I’m ANGRY” then he continues “but if you still want to…” etc. in the changed version, he just states he’s not allowed to date students and then says but if you still want to.

Same episode in the very beginning original version they open in Chang’s class and Chang tells everyone about how one anonymous evaluation was so cruel that he studied the handwriting and confirmed it was Annie. So he presses his face up against hers and says “who’s erratic and unstable now, princess gringa” The changed version starts a little earlier where he’s teaching some Spanish words but scribbling total gibberish on the blackboard. The whole evaluation forms thing is cut completely.

Basically, I remember them talking about the very bits that are chopped away in the version I have now. So maybe mine is the Blu-ray and I must have discarded the dvd version. I have the originals as well but not with commentary and that’s what I’m trying to find. The original versions cuts with commentary.

If anyone knows of a torrent or a download I’d really appreciate it. I think is so wrong when they change shit after the fact for release on home media. It’s absolute anathema to artistic integrity.

One year after the taco meat incident, Troy mentions free army taco meatEaster-Egg/Trivia

In "Horror Fiction In Seven Spooky Steps" Troy mentions he wants to go the party because he beard Dean got some Army taco meat, which happened one year before. I'm not getting if this was just a random reference or something else that I'm missing (e.g. the whole thing happened again)
