she would absolutely eat everyone up not even a question. manifesting chappell at the met gala 2025
the met gala is a fundraiser for really important costume preservation through the Costume Institute! the institute has to fund itself so that’s why it’s so big/invites such big names and celebrities. it’s sad that rich people have to attend a gala for an institute preserving our history to be funded but it isn’t just a party.
I second this :)
Ha - she IS the Met.
Anyone see it lately? Yikes.
The Met should go to a Chappell show. Theme is CUNT.
The next Chappell milestone on my mind is her performing on SNL and getting one of those little notecards they advertise their guests with
Literally one of the first things I thought when I turned on the live stream this year. You know shed pull off something crazy.
Edit: spelling errors
Nobody should be at the Met Gala
oh ya i’m aware it’s an awful institution. that being said she would absolutely eat if she showed up 😭
Why is a fundraiser for a museum’s costume history / preservation department so terrible?
Because it’s more than that
How so? You seem very knowledgeable about this, so I’m surprised you stopped short of actually explaining.
there are a couple of reasons with very long explanations but i’ll keep it brief. first and most important reason is that this is a hugely expensive ordeal to put on, from the setup, to the outfits, to flying everyone in - the amount of money spent on the event itself could easily solve a lot of much more important problems going on currently. imagine if that level of energy and money was focused in a direction to benefit suffering people.
secondly, the area of the met where the gala is (temple of dendur) is funded by the Sackler family- i’m not going to explain what they have profited off of here, but i’d suggest looking them up if you don’t know who they are. just very very icky
just to add to the irony, the book off of which the met gala was themed is an allegory for climate change, and so the outfits, if on theme, were supposed to reflect this. fashion, by definition, is objectively one of the least sustainable/climate friendly industries that exists.
i am saying all of this and am also OP for this, so my reasoning is that - things like the met gala are going to happen anyway, there is literally nothing we can do to stop it. we can make sustainable decisions and donate to good causes in our own lives. but if celebrities are going to show up in campy, sometimes interesting, usually derivative outfits, i’m going to watch. and i’d love to watch chappell absolutely destroy the boring kardashians hahaha
edit: sure the money is going to benefit the met’s costume collection, and you can argue that preservation of history is relatively important, but there is a forced famine of thousands of children happening in gaza- that’s where the money should be going (or to other similar causes, less political ones even, like reducing homelessness in america etc.) the media and celebrities are not giving the same energy towards more objectively important ordeals.
edit 2: apparently the met removed the sackler name. doesn’t change the fact that they took dirtyyyyy money.
I appreciate your thorough reply. My only addition is that charity is a non-zero-sum game. Getting people to stop donating to costume preservation will not necessarily make them care about or donate to other causes.
The form that the gala takes is symptomatic of an unhealthy culture, but it’s existence isn’t inherently bad.
I hope she never steps foot in such an archaic disgusting display of wealth bless her for not wasting any time with those out of touch celebrities that would step over any one of us if we were in the gutter 🙄🙄 will hastily delete all her music if she scoops so low
I need to know that this is a typo and that you haven’t been saying scoops so low your whole life
oh she would absolutely devour everyone there!!!!!
but honestly the whole met gala is soooo dystopian and hunger games-ish esp with our current political climate. getting the ickiest vibes from ppl attending, so i'm glad she's not there at least this year
